  1. I tried to order a one piece pulley, but no one had one or couldn't order one. After 2 hours of driving back and forth I just bought a direct replacement. Turns out the Maxima alt was defected anyway, so maybe I dodged a bullet there. I had to get my Pathy back on the road today so I couldn't wait any longer. I deff. will upgrade in the future, when I have time to do it.
  2. Junkyards are about an hour drive away. I'm going to stop at the Parts store on the way home tonight and order one. The pulley isn't bent, it just wasn't centered when the guy Impact hammered it. I will play with it tonight and see how much play was in it, just for future reference.
  3. I bought a new Alt. for my Pathy..Shhhhh...don't tell it it was for a Maxima....
  4. I thought the same when I drove mine to Michigan, in the U.P.My Pathy is mostly in Florida, soaking up the sun. I drove up north to see my daughter for Christmas, took me 21 hours to drive. When I left home it was 87 degrees. When I stopped the next day it was 0. That's zeroooooooo. Woke the next morning , it was covered in snow. Turned the key.....vrooommm....Never hesitated. I love this truck
  5. I had Autozone test it, it was the alt. I bought another one, now that delima is in another post.
  6. Yes, that's the exact alt. I got this morning. So I need to to go back to the parts store in the morning and order a 1 piece pulley. Hopefully I can find one this weekend. I need to get it back on the road by monday morning.
  7. When we pulled the original wheel off it is 3 parts, 2 halves and a spacer. The wheel sets on the spacer, and the wheel only has a small area to move. Hard to explain. It fits the armature but it can wiggle side to side on the arm. a small fraction. If we didnt line it up right when we tightened the bolt down you can see it is off center a little bit when we spin it by hand. If I wasn't at work I would shoot a video of it
  8. Yes it is the back side. It was hard to get it centered, as the first time the front wobbled a little. We took the nut off and redid it. The front is smooth now but the back side of the pulley has a slight movement when I spin it, like it isn't 100% centered in the shaft. i swear one day I am going to get a photobucket account. Second thought I should have video'ed it. I hate not having spare time.
  9. I went to autozone this morning before work and got my Pathy a Maxima Alt. Luckily the guy changed the pulley wheel for me. The only thing is when I spin it I noticed the back part of the pulley is a little off center. Is this something I should be concerned about? I want to install it tonight after work, but I'm not going to put it on if it is going to be a problem.
  10. I envy you guys out there. When I was a truck driver in my 20's I hit all lower 48 states, and I always said Washington and Oregon were the most beautiful I have ever seen. Some sights make you stop and look, connecting something in your soul to nature. *sigh....back to my cubicle.
  11. Crap. That means I have to pay the 20 bucks for the core.
  12. looked at it before work this morning, feeling sad. Was hoping to have it painted by the weekend, but my air compressor took a dump, no paint anytime soon. Now it is torn apart, no hood, molding, all taped up. Grrrrrrrr
  13. Does Autozone/Advanced do the pully swap in-store?
  14. The Alternator on it is a little over a year old
  15. Mine does something of the same. When I fill up it only says a little over 3 quarters full. The float in the tank is old and has corrosion . I took it to a sand pit at half a tank and went Dukes of Hazzard for 20 min. to bounce the float around. Fixed it.
  16. A friend of mine made a bumper out of a piece of I-Beam before. We were teenagers, but point is you can weld anything on.
  17. Awesome. I will buy one next week, thanks a lot for the info. The extra amps will come in handy, I drive with headlights and fog lights on any time I'm in the vehicle. It's just a safety thing, I'm in Florida with all the old people (no offense) that can't see unless they are right up on you. That's probably why mine burnt out so fast.
  18. Sweet, thanks Caddy, I will order one for the Maxima. Same year as my Pathy when ordering? Yea, I was just wondering, since I seen the video about the blown bulb, just so happens my bulb is bad. I didn't want to blow $75 if it was something else.
  19. Pulled the fender flares off, still prepping for paint, then considered leaving the flares off, looks meaner
  20. My charging system took a poop a couple of days ago. When I crank it, it will not charge batt. While it is running if I disconnect the battery ground it will shut off. I was going to replace the alt which is only a couple years old, but seen something online where they said some old vehicles have a regulator or something that runs through the Batt light in the dash, if the light bulb blows the alt will not work properly. Turning my key on before ignition all lights but the batt light comes on. Does the bulb thing apply to my 88 Pathy?
  21. Thanks for linking that. After it's bath this morning I looked at everything real good. It appears most of the bushings etc I can see are all dry rotted/cracked. Time to figure out what those parts are and then get to replacing them. I'm sorry for my component ignorance but I am new to this. I am mechanical, growing up in a classic car restoration garage, but never anything off road. My wife has begged me to 'sell that rust bucket and get something newer'. I believe working on a continuous project is an educational experience though. It's 27 , has almost 300k miles on it. Of course it's needing attention. Good thing for my Pathy that I have Insomnia, OCD, and a garage thats a nagging wife free zone. Yea, I spend a lot of time in there. And I was thinking the same thing about the brakes. Half a day off from work tomorrow, going to be very busy....
  22. Early morning bath, it was very cold and windy. Pulled the door kick plate thingies off, cleaning nooks and crannies, prepping for new paint this weekend.
