Isn't that MaritimeMan's territory? To poor Newbie guy, please pay us morons no mind. We speak fluent gibberish. Please continue in your pursuit of knowledge! -study-

Post #1 for the guy= cut him some slack fellas.
  4. I'd go for the JY one too, although its still a risk, especially of your time. Done that, and got one that burned a quart every few hundred miles on a Mitsubishi Mighy Max and similar on a used JDM import engine in my old Prelude. Both times, it was handled through warranty, but both times it was still a PITA with no wheels. I had to pull the Mitsu myself and take it back, but the 'lude was through a shop. However you look at it, used is used and you never know what you're getting yourself into. Maybe look into pulling your heads and having them handled professionally, although that also isn't cheap. However you play it, good luck!
  5. Good luck on your new shoes, and be careful in the wet. My BFG MT's I just ditched didn't do too well in the rain and slid VERY easily. But they were decent on the trails. Hopefully we'll have some pics from you regardless!
  6. I've heard of similar, but using a long pin and a sort of cotter pin like thing, sorry don't know the real name. But yeah, you can then just flip it up and remove it all together to stick on the front seat or wherever. Either way, maybe a trip to the hardware store would be in order for some brainstorming.
  7. Is the Commodore engine the guys from OZ use the same or similar to the GM 3.8 here? An open question, that is.
  8. So you ended up doing what the rest of us do, and extended the slip joint on the steering shaft?
  9. I've heard of an adhesive called elephand snot, not sure if that will help though. Good find!

Man, I'm sorry to hear that. I've felt what you may be feeling, the confusion, the questioning, the anger. Talk it out if only to hear yourself out, or whatever you need. I'm sure the family (and you) will be in everyone's thoughts.
  11. I just cut that to fit to cover the nasty ends of the frame that show after the body lift. It was a set up bed rails from a 96 GMC Sonoma, and that was the tailgate section, or most of it. The sides are flipped upside down to be rockers now. See pic #1.
  12. I was incredibly lazy here, and just found the hot wire at the socket on the parking light up front, clamped on one of those crimp-connecter things and ran a wire back to the switch. It doesn't have to be super efficient power since its going to the relay. And it works sweet (if I didn't kill my Hella's in an unfortunate wheeling related death ).
  13. I'd like something, but it would be tough. Is there any interest with building something for a body-lifted truck where the factory mounts are basically useless?
  14. Purple is switched power from the headlight circuit, yellow if power from the switch to the relay under the hood, and if I remember right, green is ground. By the way, you can make the fogs/driving lights come on with the parking lights (and no headlights) by simply disconnecting the purple headlight power, and replacing it with a wire tapped into the parking lot circuit. Doesn't need to be heavy duty, since you're only triggering the relay with it.
  15. I don't know if its really advised, but after I had everything sorted out and tight, and did a quick test drive, to took it to a big empty parking lot for some sorta hard braking and turning, both to get a feel of after the lift, and to make sure everything worked in a controlled setting. Might be worth it as a shake down.
  16. Here's a front shot. About the rolling resistance, yeah there may be a slight effect. But so far with a body and suspension lift, as well as a roof rack, I haven't noticed much of any drop at all. And people were warning me before doing those, sooo... I'll live with it.
  17. Looking good man. An oil cooler, huh? Interesting...

    lift kits

Search Jeep Grand Cherokee coils. Easy, almost drop in, no fab work.
  19. Well, it happened sometime in the last few days, I think between Thurs.-Sat. I just had it in the shop Wed. for tires, and it didn't come up. I was just crawling around underneath a few days before and specifically looked too. For now, I'm just gonna wrap it in duct tape too keep it clean till that boot comes, just in case I need to drive somewhere quick. In the meantime, we'll be a 1 vehicle household.
  20. AC boot is on the way just in case or for a backup down the road. How many RPM's is duct tape rated??? :secret:
  21. Or grab them both, hack one to weld in, and mount the other up front. But please, somebody grab them. No sense letting it go or rust away. Oh, and I'd say the rest of the trucks are around about 80% there. Bumpers, lights and stuff missing on both, as well as some trim. But they looked to be good donors in general.

    CV boot

First off... sunovamuthafukingodampieceofishtkismya$$nogood.... So I'm sitting in the rain, fitting some angle iron to try and make a mount for my grill guard, and the flashlight hits... grease. As in, a freshly torn boot. Looks very fresh, no dirt or anything. Soooo... how bad does it suck to pull this. I'm looking at 3 options: send it in to get done and be incredibly broke due to low funds, do it myself and be absolutely frustrated, or roll one of those temporary boot replacements such as on AC. Who has some input? I'm looking at a run in 2 weeks and it seems like every time I'm ready to play, something breaks. I sick and tired of this bull_shrimp.
  23. Good luck on good finds! I was tempted to pull one of them, but then I've spent over $1000 this week between tires, shocks, a welder, all the gear for it, other toys, etc. etc. I figure a shot out for somebody else to check it out fits my bank account just right.
  24. You know it. Bout to put on some new Rancho 5000's and another recovery hook I scored at the junkyard this morning. Oh, and the new brush guard. And maybe the new strut rod bushings... Oh, and .... I'm not bad though. My dad has his Willy's in the shop getting new diff's, lockers, power steering, and who knows what else. Boys and their toys.
  25. Got some Pro Comp Mud Terrain's, 31x12.5. Sweeet. These are a bazillion times better than the BFG's I had, especially in the rain. Must be the siping. I was gonna go with Kumho Venture's, but Pro Comp has a sale in Oct.: buy 3, get one free!. $675 out the door with mounting, balance, and tax from Tire Factory in Kent, WA. I like that they're burly, wide. With the price of gas and the amount of driving I do, I just couldn't justify going taller and losing the milage, but I think these are a nice compromise.
