  1. I think if you are grandfathered in with a plate you are OK, they just aren't allowing any bikes that don't have a plateable VIN # anymore, no matter what you do. Tires? That is like asking about oil, a thousand different opinions. If you are going to ride it mostly as a commuter Mefo Explorers are nice but pricy. Shinko 700 series is a good tire and about 100 a pair. For more dirt and my tire of choice right now is the Michelin T63. As good as a Dunlop 606 in the dirt and not scary squirrely like the 606 on pavement, you know, the pucker factor. B, shattered my left foot wheelie-ing down the road last year and hit some gravel... SLAM! My foot will never be the same. My rule now is no wheelies in tennis shoes.... I had the KLR rejetted for a long time but after the engine work I just felt something was missing. That 44mm PowerJet woke things up drastically. The government chokes these bikes down so bad to get them to pass emissions that without drastic changes to intake and exhaust they never perform like they should. I don't know anybody that leaves them stock unless they just don't ride that well...
  2. The other week I went and picked up some JGC springs at Pick&Pull. The thread telling how to yard them out was pretty plain and it took me no time at all to get them out. This morning I re-indexed my torsion bars and was ready to install the new springs but could find no procedure on how to do it. After getting hold of Trogdor and him giving me some instruction and motivation I decided to just do it. It was super easy. But Precise1 wanted me to post the before and after height and spring dimensions so here they are: Spring with pig tail cut off: 18 1/2" long 8 full coils (and a bit more) .563 thick OD 5 1/4" The height to the centerline of the body crease(at bottom of door) right in front of the rear tires was 19 3/8" before the spring change and after it was 20 1/2". Less lift than I was hoping but I don't think my original springs were sagging any noticeable degree. Anyway Precise1 feel free to move this info where you think it will do the most good, I am hoping the spring rate of the JGC springs is higher to offset the minimal gain in clearance. I think after the 3" body lift all will be grand.... Here is the pic from after the suspension work today.
  3. When your suspension lift only costs you 30 bucks for some springs at the junkyard and a few hours work....
  4. Is there a write up anywhere of installing the springs to the Pathy? What to loosen/remove, where to jack from etc. I have been looking and cant find the info anywhere. Would love to see some procedure instead of just wingin' it...
  5. Thanks 88! Re-indexed the Tbars in less than an hour with the write up you made. Used some marking paint and a small artists paint brush to mark the anchor/bar spline location but counting those tiny splines was a pain so I used calipers to make sure I got the same preload. I think the hardest part was getting the C clips back on it tight quarters... Thanks again!

    smart TV

Same same. I no longer pay for cable or any other programming provider, Hulu and FTP sites give me all I need along with a digital antenna for locals. Most don't understand that most networks give you access to most of their programming free on their websites.

    smart TV

I have had a computer tied to my TV (60" plasma) for 8 years and a couple of years before that on an old CRT. The computer is my surround sound, my DVD player, and video entertainment. I believe it has not taken off because most people don't understand the benefits and capabilities. I am in the broadband entertainment industry and have introduced many to the multimedia function of their TVs and also showed others how to incorporate their computer into their system, using their TV as a monitor. The majority of these were very pleased with the result.
  8. I should have said a TE610 would be on the list too but now that BMW owns Husky parts will be getting scarce. The orange bikes are just too much maintenance, race bikes with plates unless you go to the Adventures then you are heavy again with a huge price tag...
  9. The KLR is heavy. I have shaved almost 40lbs off the stock weight and for most it is still heavy in the tight stuff. I am 6'1" and a trim 235 so I don't have many issues with the size. Stock they are underpowered and under sprung but after suspension mods and over a 30% increase in HP it is now capable off road but still comfy on the asphalt. I ride with the guys on orange ans a couple of buddies ride XRLs. The Hondas and I are a close match off road but none of them can keep up on the tarmac. If I had to buy a bike off the showroom floor and leave it stock it would be an XRL, even with the overheating issue they have.
  10. I am very sorry and I feel your pain. My D21 was stolen 6 weeks ago and it feels like a personal violation. Although I live in northern CA I will keep my ears open and eyes peeled for you. Hopefully your local law enforcement will find it soon. Many times they steal it to take it to a private place to remove the stereo, battery, etc. and leave the rest intact. I hope this is true in your case..
  11. I think it is just as much for the website as it is the vehicle.... For 10 bucks+S&H you cant go wrong! Mods you can move this if you want to the proper thread. I hate clutter as much as the next guy!
  12. I tried to post this under "what did you do to your Pathy today, but it was locked.... Just got my stickers from fleurys yesterday. Nice quality stickers but he is right that the small letters (and the dots on the "I"s) can be a PITA. Glad I got them on and proud it display the NPORA logo!!
  13. Among other things, I never go off road, or anywhere for that matter without a trauma kit. Injuries large or small can become tragedies quickly when far from medical help. Even a first aid kit is better than being stranded with nothing at all. I personally am a registered EMT but believe EVERYONE should at the very minimum keep a current First Aid card or better yet first responder training or OEC. I would hope you never need to use this training but if the situation ever occurs you will be glad you have it and so will the individual you are helping, to possibly save their life.
  14. I ride a highly modified Kawasaki KLR. Here she is in all her glory..... 688 big bore, ported head, oversize SS valves, hot cams, Lectron 44mm carb, Ricor suspension, Vapor computer, etc. The works!
  15. Installed my new NPORA stickers that just came in the mail from fleurys. Put them in the fixed quarter windows. They.look great!
  16. When you see other Pathy drivers on the road and you both acknowledge each other and smile....
  17. Right on, glad you got it downloaded. Since I LOVE reading tech manuals I have been busy since downloading mine. I don't care what you ride or drive, you gotta have a good manual to help out.
  18. Maybe not needed but it keeps you from having to jack the truck as high.
  19. That's it! All those different PDFs are different chapters. AT is Automatic Transmission, BR is Brakes, etc. I made a file called PathyManual, downloaded the manual and then renamed the individual files so I knew what they were. Now they are all available with a click.... If you needed a few pages to take to the garage with you just print them out.
  20. I am just gonna borrow one from the parts store when I do my rear springs . Found a few sets for 50 bucks but like you I don't foresee using them much if at all after the spring swap...
  21. I guess if they know where Apache Junction is they cant live too far away.. lol. Welcome to the forums Joe, I am pretty new to Pathys and this forum myself. Lots of help here, just ask. Please try the Search function for answers before posting questions to keep the clutter down. If you cant find it, post on the appropriate forum and someone will help!!
