  1. Congratulations! Welcome to the forums, there are a lot of good guys here and a plethora of great info. Have fun with the new Pathy!!
  2. Drove 287 miles city driving and put in 15.7 gallons at 3.59 per gal. Not bad for a Pathy I guess. My old D21 with the 2.4 got almost 30 though........
  3. You just turn up the music to drown out the squeaky bushings.....
  4. Glad you got your Pathy back. Consider yourself very lucky that it was in running condition and no too badly damaged. I was not so lucky. Have fun rebuilding!
  5. I just did the JGC springs and got only 1 inch lift. I believe my original springs were in great shape though. The spring rate of the JGC springs seems a bit higher. I too like the idea of the spacer. When I get some new UCA's I will do the same. Thanks for the info!
  6. I wash all my rigs top to bottom after off roading. I don't wear mud like a badge, I like my stuff clean plus it gives you a chance to inspect after an outing. People tease me about my bike and say it looks like it has never been off road. Well, it see as much off road as on I just clean it with a toothbrush after I get home !!
  7. Thanks! Just wondering why the JGC springs didn't give me much lift....
  8. BTW, a few years back I went to ARCO to see Nickleback, they sucked. But Velvet Revolver was there and it made the trip worthwhile. They may not play together again but if they do and it happens within driving distance I am going...Grace Slick rocks!!
  9. Looking for a color wiring diagram for a '91. Any suggestions?
  10. After having the ass in the air I was expecting to find that these stock shocks were shot and that was why my sport/touring switch don't do squat(no light at switch). The shocks feel viable but the switch does nothing. I have not done any voltage checks at the switch but found what I think is the fusible link and the fuse looks good. I cant find a color wiring diagram to trace what may be the issue. I know I will end up replacing these shocks for others but would still like a color wiring diagram for future reference. Anybody have a source for one? Thanks.
  11. At least somebody had the balls to say SOMETHING !! I give credit where credit is due, you guys know your stuff with the Pathy, I respect and admire that and highly appreciate the help.... I spend most of my time on 2. Hey, cannot find a color coded schematic for a '91 anywhere. I know this is off subject but I was so elated that someone responded... I will leave the bike ***t for bike forums from now on, I promise.
  12. Buncha F**in' boners. Nuke this thread....

  14. Go to the forum home page, then to the Garage and scroll down to the FSM downloads, its that easy!
  15. 10, but I live in a fairly dry climate and no salt in the winter.......
  16. Here is a section of a jaunt I did with a buddy of mine between French Gulch and Lewiston. Just some entertainment, make sure your speakers are on, the soundtrack is nice (I think). Glenn is on his XRL. Watch him get on his bike, his is a little vertically challenged so he climbs on with the kick stand down... He is a worthy rider and we and our bikes are pretty well matched. He still races endures in SoCal. He moved back to LA, I miss riding with him....
  17. Here is what I found while doing some searching. I does nail down the cut off date and bikes converted AFTER that date can and probably will have their plate revoked. It seems clear though that this targets owners that knowingly lighted their dirt bikes and slid through the system that SHOULD have caught it. http://motocrossactionmag.com/Main/News/DMV-TO-AUDIT-CALIFORNIA-DIRT-BIKES-WITH-LICENSE-PL-1761.aspx
  18. I know we bitch a lot in the U.S. about fuel prices, etc. but when I see and hear the stories of other places it humbles me a bit....
  19. I usually get 3-5K out of a rear tire(knobby) and twice that out of a front, it all depends on the tread design and compound. There are many things that cause the buffeting on the freeway and most of them can be dealt with but big trucks are just big trucks. My bike is comfortable for hundreds of highway miles a day but it is one of the bigger DS bikes kinda designed for touring if left stock. I suggest just go ride a few. Decide on your budget and check out the ones that fit. Ride your bike to the dealerships that way they are much more inclined to give you the keys....
  20. I have a 40mm Keihin pumper sitting on my shelf. I ran it for a while, not really any better performance than the constant velocity Keihin my bike came stock with when jetted properly. The carb I run now has no jets for idle to intermediate and only one for WOT. The metering rod in this carb does all the work. The manufacturer claims better atomization than FI without FI computers, failures, and leaving you stranded in BFE. FI is great until it fails, then there is no fixing it trailside... The flatslide carbs by Mikuni are popular, no doubt, but that is probably because there is so many out there to play with. I don't consider them an upgrade, still ancient carb theory.
  21. Id be pissed if they took away a plate they issued, especially if I bought it that way. Most of the carbs from the MX and smaller displacement dual sport bikes are only 36-38mm venturis. They would work well with the smaller displacement bikes (they usually do that to have a "pumper" carb) but they just don't pass enough air for the big bikes at RPM. They work fine for low RPM torque but choke out when the bike needs big air....But you are right, that swap is getting very popular, the Mikuni and Keihin pumpers are the most used. Some are converting to FI, which I think is ludicrous.
  22. I don't know that much about the Pathys yet, but I am learning. The symptoms you describe sounds a lot like a failing coil, heck to troubleshoot an intermittent problem. The fact that you have other electrical issues also makes me think of a faulty ignition switch. Without knowing more about these particular rigs I could just be grasping at straws.....
  23. Just went and measured the springs I took off. .52 thick, 17" long, 8 coils. Does that sound stock? Are there different springs with the off road package?
