  1. Such as Canadians having to pay $2000 more?
  2. I can dig that reasoning. I like the look of my pre-facelift R50, but would sure love the more horses of the VQ engine. Keffer, I haven't looked closely enough to determine if the front fenders of a post-facelift are the same, but I think it would be safe to assume that they are not. Front clip should be all sheet metal - hood, fenders - bumper, and unibody structure underlying it. That wouldn't include the radiator or other mechanical parts, just structural members. Unless you're a skilled body guy, I would leave it as is. Here's a question to consider for irony's sake: If it was wrecked twice, was it rebuilt as a pre-facelift both times? Or did the owner source the post-facelift parts and then, when he/she wrecked it again a year later, just went "Awww come on!!" and rebuilt it with older parts the second time? Lol
  3. On second thought, $2000 may be high. I'd probably try starting at $1000 and look to settle at $1500. But seeing as how they're not being upfront about the damage, the whole thing may be a scam.
  4. Then it is a MY 2001, but likely was wrecked and the front end replaced with a pre-facelift front clip. Keffer, if I was in the market, and I inspected it and the work was done well, I'd throw $2000 cash at them and see if they bite.
  5. That can't be an 01, it's one of two things: a pre-facelift 99, or a wrecked 2001 with a pre-facelift front clip installed. Ask for a pic of the engine, if it's a 3.5L engine then it's a wrecked 01 with a replacement front clip, if it's a 3.3L engine then they got the year wrong. Those wheels and rear are definitely post-facelift though. What a strange beast - but explainable with more info from the seller.

    GEN Y

I enjoyed reading this article, because I think it hits on something I've long thought - the "movie star" mentality. I'm an early Gen Y/ late Gen X (born in 79) so I kind of cross over, but I've noticed among people my age and slightly younger a perception of themselves as the star of their own television show or movie. Maybe because many of us were the first generation of children raised where television - particularly cable - was ubiquitous in every household and a large segment of parents allowed television to "babysit." Also we were the first generation to be primarily latchkey kids, with both parents working. But at the same time, I remember having a rotary phone, bunny ears, and not even imagining a remote control. Conversely, we had a home computer before I was 10, and cable. A lot of things changed, and changed very quickly at that.
  8. The ARB bumper? As far as I know the name is the only difference in the US and Canadian models, but I'm sure a Canadian will chime in if there is a difference. If not, you may want to start a new thread so owners can list the differences between the models.
  9. It's all good. The guy that was trying to sell stuff from his wrecked PFinder stopped replying to my PM's. He must have gone a different route. I really want to do an OME lift anyway, but couldn't pass up a good deal on an AC package if it was to be had.
  10. Well played, sir. Well played. . .
  11. In keeping to the OP's context, I'd like to chime in. Let me explain myself first, so my perspective can be quantified. I am a Christian, unapologetically so. I was raised in a home where we attended church on Sundays, and prayed before meals. However, I rejected that at a young age and chose agnosticism. After practicing that for several years, I came to a place in my life where if there was a God, I needed Him. I sought God, and He was there for me. Through faith in Christ, I have a personal relationship with God, and have for 16 years now. I believe in a moral standard that is based on the nature and character of God - i.e., sin, the necessity of forgiveness for all mankind, etc. That perspective is integral to all that I am, say, and do. That's enough self-definition; now to my thought on the matter: Canada is not the US, and Quebec is not even like the rest of Canada. Being on the outside, however, I am still aware of how much of a struggle there is for Quebec itself to have its own cultural identity. So, rhetorically, how much of this is about race and religion, and how much of this is about cultural identity? Let me apply a cross-reference to try to bring it out of the religious context for a moment. . . In the southern United States close to Mexico, there is a unique element of Hispanic culture that is incorporated into the broader "American" culture. I work in construction, and first-hand deal with a broad variety of Hispanics - some that when I attempt to speak Spanish to them, they are offended and respond, "I speak English." There are others that literally refuse to speak English if there is a Spanish-speaker available, even if they can speak marginal English. Culturally, that demonstrates a huge disparity even amongst people of the same race (and usually religion) - some that have embraced "American" culture, and some who seek to hold on to their (usually Mexican) identity. That has led to a broader backlash in the culture - some see this influx of immigrants who refuse to adopt "American" culture as a threat. My thinking is that that is sort of what is prompting this legislation in Quebec. Quebec itself has long sought to have an identity separate and independent of the larger cultural identity of Canada, and now that Quebec is experiencing a large number of primarily middle-eastern Muslim immigrants, it is seen by some as a threat to "Quebec" culture. I think this legislation could be a knee-jerk reaction to that, in order to "preserve" Quebec culture. Boil everything away, and that's the equivalent of "I'm taking my toys and going home since you guys don't want to play the way I want to play." Take away the fear factor of the fact that they are primarily Muslim as both a religion AND a culture, and it is the same as when the US marginalized the Irish in the mid-19th century, the Chinese in the late 19th Century, the Japanese in the time of World War 2, and on and on and on. I seriously don't think it is about religion at all, I think it is the fear of dilution.
  12. Geez, man. If you come up with any ideas as to what caused such a random catastrophic failure, I'd love to hear it. I have never heard of a head gasket blowing while the vehicle sits in a garage. (I know that's not what happened, but it still seems like if that had happened while driving , you would have noticed it. Maybe an irresponsible party started it and revved it while it was parked and you were not looking, and blew the gasket?)
  13. Glad you weren't hurt badly. And I hope your employer is the type that will not suddenly see you as a liability because of the injury. How long have you been with them?
  14. I'm sure more qualified gearheads will chime in here on procedure, but I'll start with the obvious - why do you think the head gasket is blown? Coolant in the oil, oil in the coolant, or a severe loss of compression?
  15. Lol. I actually have a (semi) logical reason for disliking them. I'm in my mid-thirties, so they were good when I was very young and then when I was an early teenager in the Aikman/ Smith/ Irving years. I grew up in Baton Rouge, LA, which is about 60 miles from New Orleans and - you guessed it - in the blackout zone. So, when the Saints were the Ain'ts, and their home games were blacked out, my local carrier picked up the Cowboys games. So, at that point it became good old-fashioned jealous hate. I am a Saints fan, yet I'm sitting here watching this bunch instead of my Saints because they're good and my Saints are bad? Add to that all the "America's Team" ridiculousness and there you go. (I'm sure I inherited some from my dad, too.) Now that I think about it, I really should have been more negative toward the television carrier, but the Cowboys are a good focal point. That, and I just love to hate on any poorly-run franchise such as the Cowgirls.
  16. Agreed. I like that truck; I like the lines on old Ford 3/4 ton 4wd's.
  17. Can anyone give me a recommendation on a kayak carrier for the R50?
  18. Good! Examining news from multiple sources is how to verify the truth of it. Knowing that you've had the same thing reported to you from other sources should boost your confidence that, well, Romo may as well go play golf. There's always next year. (Sorry - I'm a Cowgirls hater - but all in good fun)
  19. Sweet. Was that factory? Heck yeah - it would be even better with a Tremec 6-speed manual behind that V8. Sleeper car, in more ways than one.
  20. Thursday night, the NFL opens with Baltimore at Denver. That should be a good game - some grudge there from last season's playoffs plus the extra stirring the NFL has done putting Joe Flacco billboards all over Denver. If my television carrier (DirecTV) had CFL games, I'd watch. Heck, it's football, which is better than. . .well, pretty much everything excluding a few, ahem, fun things me and the wife like to do. . . ahardb0dy, here's a pic for you: WHO DAT!!
  21. Is that a diesel? If so, what kind?
