  1. Not meaning to beat on a dead horse, but if I understand correctly you ripped out everything from the TOP spring perch? Then seated the donut up in there, then lowered your Pathy onto it? I'm just double checking, as the back of the package notes to "screw" these into the upper portion of the spring. I think I also read online about replacing the bottom perch by a qualified mechanic...I dont think Pathy's qualify for bottom perch rubber-safety wise. Thanks! I picked up a pair of these, and hope to install over the weekend.
  2. Yeah those flat containers are nifty. They would surely do allrite in an off the shelf roof basket, as well as a home made/modified one you had initially asked about. You might give some thought to making a cabinet to sleep on. Would give you extra storage for stuff you won't use daily, or you could have a long drawer etc.
  3. Hey Al, did you have to remove your shock(s) to get enough space in there to insert those rubber helpers? Thanks.
  4. Welcome! I havent seen any aftermarket "inserts" like your asking about. You'd probably have to make one or modify one. I had given a Yakima MegaWarrior roof basket a try for a very short time, then sold it. One of those might be suitable for the flat style gas/water containers. Unlikely suitable for "jerry can" style containers. I ended up going with a roofbox. They are more aerodynamic (I know it sounds silly, but I swear I could feal the drag with the roof basket). Plus most roofboxes can lock. The one I have is a Thule, and it's pretty good sized, yet lite enough when empty for me to install/un-install without any help. As far as sleeping in your Pathfinder, you might want to give it a try just to see how you fit. I have to sleep at angle to fit, which means unloading gear etc. I suppose if I were to camp in it for extended periods I would just remove one of the rear seat bottoms (the part that flips up), then I could lie down without unloading gear. I just recently found out that my front seats can flip flat (I think someone on here had pointed it out), but I don't know that I could sleep in them. Its worth a try though, as that would likely give you the best use of space. Tips/suggestions: Perhaps give some thought to a rear tire carrier. You can set them up to carry fuel/water cans, and that would be easier for you to access. Check out the slide out/roll up awnings (tarp) that can bolt to a roof rack. Having a quick pullout awning would be great to have. Some of them have all kinds of extras like mosquito netting, privacy walls etc.
  5. I installed Warn hubs about 6 months ago, simple swap out for the OEM hubs. Took me a while for the first one because I had to put the tire on before I should have. Second side took me 15 minutes. I also did not have to swap out the studs. I didn't change bearings, because a) I don't think it needed them. I think it would have been an all day job if I did. If I recall the inner bearings are a "big" job, and need a special tool (or you can make one with 2 prongs)-plus the Rotor & such needs to come off. They also need care to be seated correctly-mind that this just what I have read, not actually done. -Grain of salt... So I'd say skip the bearings for now, unless you feel that they are on the way out. Bank that time towards the spark plugs swap etc. ...watch out for them Democrats, I hear they can be a surly bunch especially in herds... Edit-adding: Shoot some PB blaster or simular on the drain/fill plugs of anything you think you might be changing out later in the week. This really helped when I filled my rear diff...
  6. Yes, but that is with a new "real" bumper also, while the "Tire Gate" lists at $675 on 4x4.com. -If I was to buy another Pathy (I've been thinking about an LE or Qx4 w/3.5L), that TAG bumper would be a nice modification! I don't know what skills would be needed for the install though. I don't weld-so if that's required, add on cost to have a shop do it... ...is Tactical Armor Group still around even?
  7. If you have a tow package, you can buy a hitch mounted spare tire carrier. Google hitch mounted spare tire carrier. Probably not the best idea if you offroad a lot, as you lose uphill start angle. -I have a dealer installed swing out on my 99.5, haven't seen any others around with it. I think it's great...
  8. Ouch! I havent done my transfer case yet, so I don't know how much room we have down there to work with...any chance of having the broken tool welded onto the plug? Then welding a bit to that to turn the plug out? -I've read that can be done with stripped REAR differential fill plug... Again-ouch!!
  9. That looks nice! I have those lights mounted on my brush guard. I have them so they only turn on when my high beams go on. I also have them tied to a switch, primarily to pass inspection. I might swap out the bulbs for some PIAA type ones if I get around to it. The bulbs I'm thinking about use the same Watts, but "look" like near double Wattage. I ran the PIAA bulbs in my fogs for a while & they are VERY bright, but short lifespan.
  10. Bummer! Sounds as though no one got hurt, so that's a good thing at least...
  11. Its unlikely (but possible) that the stock hubs will fail. It is more likely that the CV joints will fail on a lifted Pathfinder without manual hubs.
  12. Your Pathfinder looks good. The year might be off, or perhaps the previous owner put on a later years roof rack? Ditto on "Enjois408" 's suggestion to install rocksliders. There are several companies which offer them for our SUV's. Some are simple bolt on, while others are not and need to be welded on. I got the bolt on kind and installed them myself...if I can do it, ANYONE can. If I plan on offroading a bunch in the future I will have my sliders welded to the uni-body. -Another modification suggestion: Aftermarket locking hubs. (I can't tell from your picture if you have aftermarket hubs or not). On a lifted Pathfinder it will save wear and tear on your front drive train bits. Might also save you some MPG. I installed Warn hubs myself...if I can do it, ANYONE can.
  13. Yeah, what Tungsten wrote above. I believe the block drain plugs are more in case you have issues with over heating after a drain fill due to air bubbles and such (could be wrong though).
  14. Yeah. Just bad timing, I'll have it back to finnish moving-hurrah!
  15. Got a tow truck & out of my drive ok. They have a bar that can lift at a 90 degree angle, pretty nifty. Dealer days it's the ignition cylinder needs replaced. They could throw a different cylinder in (ie 1 key for ignition & my original for doors) , and save 95$. I figured it's so dangled expensive already why not just keep my original keyset. Will cost me all most as much as the AC 2" spring lift I had been thinking about. Ouch!
  16. Hurray for communication! I told 3 different folks that a flatbed won't fit. They sent a flatbed...
  17. Or do u think it will be ok to tow in neutral about 3 miles to the dealer? Thanks!
  18. Well, just called my local tow company, they "think" they can get my Pathy out of my driveway. Also, the dealer mentioned our shift release, its a little plastic square top right of shifter-acrossed from the letter "P". Pop it off and there is a little button-shift unlocked, now it in neutral. So at least it might be able to be towed on a regular truck (flatbed will not fit and turn in driveway).
  19. Thanks for the suggestion Slartibartfast. Anyone know how to "hot wire" a 1999.5? Ive never hotwired a car. That's why I'm wondering if I can drill the lock tumbler with a small drill and just use a screw driver to turn the ignition (with my key/attached somehow). -I do have another car, but REALLY need my Pathy back on the road ASAP. If I wasnt amidst moving itd be less of a bother. Oh well..,
  20. Hi-thanks for the replies, appreciate it! And I agree if something similar happens to you have it replaced ASAP. Dang I'm in the midst of moving apartments, and doing extra shifts (someone had a meltdown and walked out at work). Not having the Pathy in service is a tad inconvenient, plus messing with my sleep schedule is just happy joy funtime...could be worse though. Mine seems like "Tightos" above-the ignition key locking mechanism has failed. I got it home, then out of habit turned the key to the "off" position out of habit (Ooops!!!). The key will not turn again (tried and tried, sleept then tried again) , but at least I got it home and got a few hours sleep. The dealer said that the tumbler failed (there are small parts/springs etc that wear out over time)-first car that this has happened to for me anyways. No warning, no difficulties with it etc, then just wouldn't turn. Sounds as though I may have to do some similar procedure as Tightos above to get my Pathy to the dealer. They have a new ignition cylinder ordered for me, they should have it in the AM. ---? Can I drill out the current cylinder where our key normally goes and use a screw driver, with my chip key tapped near there or something? Currenty, I can't imagine that I could get a tow (car is in park, and no way a flatbed can get into my driveway...) Thanks.
  21. Got it going. ?change ignition-or see if Wd40 fixed it. ? Try PB blaster also? Will check back later - must get sleep...
