  1. Just don't crash and you will be fine! James
  2. Here is a picture of the suggested tool in the manual. I'm just using a sleeve on each side of the frame with an all thread through the middle of the bushing and both sleeves. One sleeve pushes on the bushing while the other sleeve is against the frame. I stripped a 1/2" all thread too, going back today for a 5/8". This has to work, The hole in the bushing wont accept larger than a 5/8". James
  3. The air hammer didn't do much good. Build a puller type setup but use at least a 1/2" all thread rod. I still have around 1/2" to go to get the bushing flush. I grabbed a 7/16 all thread for my puller setup I put together and stripped it without moving the bushing at all! I'm about ready to setup one of my other toys in front of the pathy and teach it a lesson! There might be a pathfinder for sale cheap with no front end parts and a lot of holes in it! James
  4. I can't wait till I finish working on this thing so I can go have some fun. It's giving me so much trouble working on the front end, I will abuse the hell out of it when I finally get to go! James
  5. Oh believe me I was wishing I had a torch. I had gotten most of the rubber out so smoke wouldn't have been a problem. It was that damn soft metal sleeve! A torch would have helped alot. My brother has one at his house but he lives in the next town over. If Nissan would have pressed the bushing into the arm instead of the frame I could have brought it to his house. I have been a mechanic since 1988 and never had this much trouble working on anything! Even on big diesel trucks. Course I was always working in a fully equipped shop. James
  6. I read about the regulator when I was searching, but my coolant gauge works correctly so I'm thinking the regulator should be good. I'm busy working on the front end right now, I haven't checked much for the gauge yet accept the sender. When I get to the gauge problem I will pull the cluster and check it good. Just stacking ideas right now. I read something about a radio shack part to replace the regulator but the link to the info was dead. Can someone repost that? James
  7. Has anyone here replaced their lower control arm bushing? I'm talking about the bushing in the front not the compression rod bushings. First, what the hell was Nissan thinking! Press the bushing in the frame instead of the removable A arm! When they say you need a special tool to change this bushing they aren't lying to you! I will have to make myself one tomorrow. I cut the center out of the old one and figured I would split the sleeve and just knock it out. Boy was I wrong! 4 hours later with chisels punches and an air hammer I finally got the @#%& thing out. All my neighbors really enjoyed me and the air hammer. Then I tried driving the new one in with the air hammer with a big socket on the end. I still have about a half inch to go and it wont budge anymore. Tomorrow at work I will turn a couple of sleeves and pick up a piece of all thread to make a "special tool". My suggestion if you need to change the bushings on your pathy, sell it! James
  8. Yea I would like some ideas too. My old sender had open spots so I figured that was why it showed 1/4 tank all the time. I changed out the sender with a used unit that tested good with an ohm meter and it is doing the same thing. The sub tank gage stays on empty too. James
  9. So what is this Go-Lightly? Is it a temp fix or something that can be used for a maintenance for the cat? James
  10. Ok guys forgive me I have not removed my center link yet to inspect it. I have been searching info on center links and now I see that the end of the center link may look like a ball socket (or tie rod end) but it is a rotating only type joint. (or at least used to be blond) So yes now I agree that twisting is not normal. Well damn, I guess I need a new center link too! James
  11. I would say yes it's normal. The way it is designed it almost has to twist like that. They should have put the inner tie rod end a few inches down the center link rod instead of the doge bone style. But hell it's been working this long like that. James
  12. Any electronic device I have that craps out, the first thing I check is for cracked solder joints. Usually fixes it too. Electronics are soldered by machines, they don't check for a good connection when they are finished. James
  13. From what I hear factory leather seats are like that. Kind of pisses me off I have factory leather in my titan and a buddy has aftermarket in his. His is all leather and a little softer than mine. James
  14. My pathy is 5 speed but my wife's 01 quest van calls for dex3, and I used maxlife in it. Still working good at 124,000 James
  15. Thats what I'm about to do, strip it to the frame and come back with all new parts. When you pull your dust boot back you will see what they do. When you are wheelin you don't want poo getting in the splines. You know everything sticks to grease when you don't want it to. James
  16. I ordered from 4X4 parts, they are already on their way. The problem with the local dealer in my area is that they suck! They don't stock much either. I vowed to never buy another Nissan because of them. Then I bought this pathfinder, oh well I guess I lied. They never have anything for my wifes 01 quest so I knew they wouldn't have had anything for this old pathfinder. And if I have to order it I will order it from someone cheaper. They charged me $16 for an oil filter once! James
  17. I found a jack! thanks for all y'all help, the pics helped alot. I still had all the other tire tools under the seat so I'm all set now. This one is kind of rusty but that just means a future project of cleaning and painting. James
  18. I had search though 4X4 parts and couldn't find them. I searched again this morning and found them though. I need to slow down I'm always in too much of a hurry. Come on Red the king of search! I thought you would have come back with at least three different links! Thanks guys James
  19. I bet you enjoyed the job too. You have the satisfaction of fixing it yourself, and a smile from all the money saved that you would have paid to someone else to do it. With vehicles this old you have to be able to fix it yourself. I just don't trust anyone else working on my vehicles. I pace the floor when I'm getting tires put on. James
  20. Hey guys I'm ordering suspension bushings and cant find the dust boots for the torsion bars. I will have to take them off so I would rather go back with new ones. I searched the forums and a couple of parts websites but didn't find them. Is this a dealer only item? James
  21. Thanks for that Red, I was going to search for it just hadn't had time yet. My main problem with searching is the time to look through the results. It took me three days to find converting to rear disk but I did find it by myself. And whats up with this poho thread? More than half of the search results I get for anything I search for are that thread. James
  22. The pictures definitely will help. I thought the over all length was too long and I knew the front legs (part that turns down) would be to long. From the look of his pics as far as I can tell he didn't shorten the over all length. Possibly once I get the front legs to length the over all length will be just right. I stripped a bunch of front end parts out of the scrap yard yesterday and this morning I realized I'm not as young as I used to be! I got my truck jacked up yesterday evening and got a good look at the suspension. On the passenger side, the compression rod bushing is screwed up on the nut side of the rod. This let the lower a arm front bushing in the frame move forward until the a arm is rubbing on the frame. I could see this letting the tow pull in as far as it did. Now I just need to order some bushings then rebuild the whole front end so I can get this front end issue out the way, then on to the xterra rack! James
  23. That was just one post. If you guys are all using them I will probably get a set too. the polly one will probably be easier to find anyway. James
  24. That does look good, I guess I won't be the first to put an xterra rack on a pathfinder. Do you know anyway to contact this guy? Where did you get the pictures? It would help to talk to him and maybe get some close up pictures before I start cutting. I know I will have to shorten the legs in the front because the pathfinder doesn't have as much step in the roof. Possibly after doing that it would not be too long. Right now it's definitely too long. I guess I'll have to move this project up from the back burner. James
