  1. Counter-clockwise to loosen but not always...
  2. yeah it's called insulator or something like that you can put a piece of foam there or buy a new one
  3. :o how did you make those mesh ones?? i would like some as that would keep all the @!*% from falling into the cooling box
  4. Does it bog if the check engine light is off? That's really interesting.
  5. The ECU is definitely slowing you down. Try to reset the check engine light and see if you can rev to 6000 then.
  6. The wiring diagram does show the heated mirror resistors going to a relay so running the 10 ga wire to it might be a possibility. The positive wire goes to the rear window defogger relay and the negative goes to the body ground. It's pretty simple to hook up even without a proper harness.
  7. Is it an Auto or a Manual? You should check out that the truck transmission is not stuck in limp mode. If your check engine light stays on that may cause some protection system to turn on as well. A bad EGR valve will really make the engine suck gas which is why your MPG rating is so bad right now.
  8. congrats on buying a truck with an actual frame
  9. 1. Part quality is top notch other than the crappy factory exhaust 2. You can drive this truck for a long time if you watch the trouble spots which are very few 3. It is capable and it looks awesome even in stock form 4. It is a no fat truck with lots of interior space 5. It is easy to fix by yourself 6. You only need 1 catalytic converter and 1 working EGR valve to pass any state smog check 7. The gas mileage is amazing for an SUV like this 8. This truck can go faster than most cars on the road
  10. I don't know if many people here know this but the owner's manual specifies that some spark knock is normal. Look under the SPARK KNOCK section in the manual. Mine will sometimes ping under load for a second or two and then stop. The pinging happens when the ECU adjusts the timing for your application to save you fuel and provide optimum engine performance.
  11. I got angry at mine so I just broke them out; they melted inside the holes and started cracking. I just got new ones from the dealer.
  12. you may fail smog checks with those just get some from the later VG30E
  13. Yes it is, I have a 91 but my timing belt intervals are nice and long with the round sprockets. I never had a timing belt failure and my last timing belt lasted a good 120k miles and still looked like it would keep going when I got it replaced with a new one from Nissan.
  14. Where is that plug? It just may be the one I'm talking about.
  15. You know what you should do? See if you can change all the sprockets from square to round ones so that you may get longer timing belt change intervals.
  16. *sigh* Does anyone not remember the S10 digital dash? How about the digital dashes that came in most GM cars?
  17. lets see now 1. some body work like replace the mirrors, get new shifter boot, and some small stuff 2. replace shocks, they are going bad 3. re-index drivers side torsion bar 4. alignment
  18. You know what guys... After looking under the dashboard, I did find an unplugged harness that looks like it would fit the defrost switch. Almost as if I could already plug them in inside the doors and then swap the connector on the defrost switch underneath the dashboard. Yes my heated mirrors have two connectors, one 3 pin for the swivel and one 2 pin that has the two heat wires.
  19. I am predicting a rise in value of older SUVs because of their mod-ability and ability. Try going off the road with a modern SUV.
  20. Yes that is the mixture adjuster. You can look that screw up in the Haynes manual, it actually goes into detail about that one. IIRC It was only available on the early VG30i engines.
  21. Yes, Kingman got it on the spot. Things from Japan used to be @!*% until American technology came in.
  22. I say keep for one reason: It is really hard to find a WD21 with no frame rust on it.
