  1. someone is swinging the rep hammer around again

  2. there is a 2 in the front and i don't pay attention anymore
  3. That depends on how you wheel. I suppose the Patrol might be better on the tougher trails but they are also heavier and bigger which might create other issues. The Pathfinder's compact size puts it at a major advantage over the Patrol.
  4. Check out this web-site of this guy who does repair videos: http://toolsandtime.com http://toolsandtime.com/viewall.html Nissan VG30E timing belt is done in the middle of the page!
  5. There is a rating on the coolers, either in BTU or in GVWR. You will need a cooler that is rated for 16,000 lbs GVWR or around like 13,000 BTU at the minimum. The bigger you can get of a cooler the better but beware of the amount of space that you have to use.
  6. They can fail at any mileage. It all depends on how you drive them and how you take care of them. Automatics wear out during shifts, not during drive time. The less you have to shift back and forth, the longer you can use it for. A well cared for and well driven transmission will last over 300,000 miles. An abused and neglected transmission will fail at less than 80,000 miles. If you have the older 3 speed then that will last even longer.
  7. I like that setup! I used to have the speaker pods in that location but I might do something like that now that I am relocating the speakers into the roof.
  8. It can be anything, start taking off belts until it goes away. Mine went away on the last belt, which is the alternator and water pump with fan belt.
  9. Ok I guess that theory can go in the garbage can. I bought a dealer V-belt this time and tried it on (while replacing the spark plugs) and it was like the exact width of the Gates belt so the sizing is out of the question. Put that on and it had that stupid rap-rap sound now that old v-belts typically have. The whine did not go away. So that Gates v-belt is good and I just ended up with a road spare. I think the Gates belt was even better quality than Nissan's Bando belt but I will leave the Nissan one on for now, throw the spare Gates belt in the back as a spare, and call it a day. It's not the timing belt because upon removal of that water pump and alternator belt the sound goes away entirely. The only thing left now is the alternator itself. I took it to a reputable re-builder (5-star rating on Google!) and they told me the bearings and brushes and all that will be brand new so I think something went wrong with the supplier. I would also like to say that adamzan was right before that it was the alternator. It's OK though, the timing belts should be replaced once in a while anyway. Problem: Something defective with the rebuilt alternator. At least I found the problem but holy @!*% what a headache this was. I hope someone will learn from this.
  10. You can swap engines. Not being able to buy one in the US market. That snorkel is on backwards.
  11. I would still go with a Pathfinder but I find it really awkward how there was never any LHD version of the Patrol for the US market. Toyota did that right with their Land Cruiser even though they already had a 4runner.
  12. sounds like a MAF sensor problem
  13. Pathfinder Patrols are way overrated in my opinion.
  14. May be on to a solution here: Upon inspection of the V-belts I noticed that the fan belt was about 1/8th of an inch wider than the power steering and a/c belts. When the water pump starts flowing the coolant, the belt may not sink into the pulleys deep enough for traction and slip on the crankshaft pulley. I already received an a/c belt that was too long before so chances are I may have also received a fan belt that was too wide. The solution is to try another belt of the same width as the other two accessory belts.
  15. yeah he was texting me the entire afternoon today i made him jack up the truck and test every wheel
  16. Update: Alright well that has all been taken care of now and the truck runs really smooth. No leaks anywhere and everything else seems nice. The old pump bearing seemed fine as well and the impeller wasn't missing. I guess Nissan can still be trusted. No idea on the leak but it's not there anymore with the new gasket and pump. Might have been something dumb I did earlier. However that noise came back again when the truck warmed up. Now I am thinking it is either the alternator bearings or the belt itself making that noise. Just a heads up: Gates timing belt stuff (belt & tensioner) works great and so does their pump. The instructions are clear and they even give you a nifty sticker. Thanks to adamzan for the tip.
  17. Update: Water pump started to weep a little so I limped my truck to a shop and had them do the whole timing belt job there. Going to see tomorrow if this problem was resolved. It is a bit ridiculous that a real Nissan part has failed so soon. The old water pump that was in there when I got the truck lasted forever and had no play. So I said screw you Nissan, listened to adamzan this time and got a Gates pump. Going to see how well that performs and report back. I haven't read any horror stories on Gates water pumps yet so they should be good.
  18. A bad catalytic converter will give you some really bad smells.
  19. The service manual is a lie. The BPT valve doesn't monitor the exhaust pressure, it is directly affected by the exhaust pressure. The more pressure the BPT receives from the bottom, the more of a vacuum leak to the EGR valve it creates. It is that simple.
  20. You have to be careful there though. Not all things are covered by Nissan. For example air conditioning systems are not covered by many dealers.
  21. *thread bump* Can a mod pin this and move to the HowTo section? I am getting requests for this thread like crazy.
