  1. No updates, I worked all weekend, so I couldn't get my hands on the Pathy. Tomorrow will be a work day on it. We'll see how it goes, I plan to have the engine out by Tuesday sometime. I need to return the hoist that the towing company lent me. Oh yeah, all of the gaskets are getting redone, I don't trust them. T-belt as well. I hope I can get it swapped over by the end of this week, that would be awesome I wish I could do the Thorleys right now, but funds are tight and I need wheels so I just want her back on the trails... Updates tomorrow evening!
  2. I got a new clutch put in last year, so.. think it's still needed? I'm going to be replacing all of my seals, well... the ones I'm capable of doing. Getting new plugs and wires as well. I'm at a standstill now. Just came in from the shop to post a couple pictures and update everyone with my progress. I cannot get the front pipe unbolted. I've taken out two of the studs, but I cannot get the third for some really odd reason. The socket won't grab it... It probably sounds really stupid, but I don't understand what's going on. The other two came out perfectly. The starter, well.. it's ubolted but I can't get the wires off. One other thing, I hit a low stump a while back, and it hit my front pipe... I inspected it but it didn't look too bad. Now that I've gotten under there and really checked it out, she took a pretty good hit. The replacement engine looks pretty clean. I think it would look nicer with blue valve covers/intake manifold... We'll see. And, as she sits right now
  3. All nuts and bolts have gone back where they came from, all lines are masked off and marked as well. I've also taken about 60 digital pictures. Yeah, it's a manual, so it looks like the tranny is getting dropped... lammmeeee... This means I do have to buy that kit from Canadian Tire afterall.... Floor jack and jack stands.
  4. I speak Japanese!! Well, kinda... 3 years of Japanese, top of the class....
  5. Woohooo! Thanks for all the help everyone! Major things on the to do list now are... Unbolting the exhaust, pulling the starter, and unbolting the trans. Then everything is disconnected from the engine and she should come right out after I unbolt it from the engine mounts I just decided to cut the lower rad hose. For some reason I've lost half of the strength in my right hand, and couldn't grip it tight enough to twist it off. Tomorrow I'll tackle the transmission unbolting (if I have the right tools....) and the starter. I don't know what I'm going to do with the exhaust, the only lubrication I have is WD40, and I hear that it's pretty weak for things like this. My next check should go towards Thorleys I don't need to pull the tranny as well, do I? :S Just support it and unbolt it from the engine, correct?
  6. Well I finally got my replacement engine and I'm trying to swap it in with no experience at all. I'm already having troubles getting the lower rad hose off, so I can pull the rad. I got the hose off the engine and drained the rad, but I'm having troubles getting it off the rad itself. This isn't a huge problem, but I will be posting more problems I encounter throughout the swap in here. This is going to be fun....
  7. Body lifts do not work with R50 Pathfinders. Only option is a suspension lift, which is sold at AC
  8. Of course now that I get half of the head taken apart, they finally get the engine ready to be picked up at the wrecker... Looks like the head's getting assembled again and the whole engine is coming out.
  9. I hit the water and the engine died. My battery ring terminals were loose (at least the positive one was). My battery instantly died for some reason, and I had no lights at all, but it would slowwwwwwwly charge up. We towed it out and thought that it was just my battery that died, so we hooked up the cables and let it charge for a bit. I checked the dipstick and there was no water that I could see, and the air filter was wet. Pulled the filter and started it up. Water pumped out my exhaust for a bit (but I've got lots of holes in it....). And the engine ticked. I didn't have to pull the plugs and drain the water to have it start. I probably messed something up when I started it without draining what should have been drained. Now what does it sound like got damaged? heheh....
  10. Dangit, that makes me sad. I can't check those two out without pulling the engine, can I?
  11. So most likely not a valve then?
  12. Thanks mws. I thought everyone was going to wonder why the hell I would take apart my engine without really knowing what I'm doing. I don't really know the definition of hydrolock.. all I know is that my engine ticks really badly but still runs, and smells a bit rich.
  13. Well... I don't even really know what I'm doing here... but I've got another engine coming to replace this one anyway. I wanted to check out my valves, see if any are bent or if there is any sort of damage in the head and if that was the case, to replace them and see if that resolved the ticking sound. If so, then I wouldn't swap in my other motor, and I'd do something else with that one... So, I got out the Chiltons and went to the head teardown section. This is where I'm at right now, I don't have the right tool to get the head bolts out, so I'm haulted right now. If you guys and gals see anything that doesn't look right, tell me... or have any suggestions. My oil is so nasty from the water... yuck. This is after I swamped it in a pond, by the way... I think most of you know about that incident Here's the pic of where I'm at right now.
  14. Personally, I have a set of 6.5" JBL Gto Components, with the tweeters in a home made fiberglass pod on the a-pillar panel. I have Alpine Type S 6x9s in the back, running off of a small amp. I would suggest getting decent speakers, whatever size and running all of them off of an amp.
  15. Check 720 specific forums. Garunteed there will be several topics about tweaking the engines.
  16. Pretty much any aftermarket speaker will sound better than the stocks. Pioneers are decent, and cheap. Alpine is a little overpriced for the quality. Infinity is great for the price. Any of these brands run off of an aftermarket deck will sound 100x better than the stock setup. Bypass the amps most definitely. If you end up getting high powered speakers, find a 4 channel off eBay or something and power them with that, like was said earlier.
  17. Took out the front seats today during the interior tear-out, they don't fit haha. I sat in it and my head was touching the roof and all bent. I'm sure if the floor was cut out and brackets were made about 4" lower it would fit.
  18. Has anyone ever thought about getting two front bucket seats from another Pathy and using them to replace the back seats? I'm wondering if they would fit... Im going to check soon, since my Pathy is dead and I'm doing an interior overhaul as we speak.
  19. I use my front pipe right after the manifold to rip out stumps.
  20. hoohaa, I meant worth it as opposed to a whole VG30ET from a 300zx swapped in. I'd like a supercharger as well, but I dono if that will happen. This seems a little easier.
  21. I was given this link in another forum I was trying to get help in about a VG30ET swap into our Pathys. http://www.redz31.com/pages/turbo.html A VG30E gone turbo. Seems fairly simple, just very time consuming. What do you guys (and gals) think? Possible on our Pathys? Worth it?
  22. When my engine goes.... actually, just did kinda... I'm thinking of a VG30ET
  23. Is the "dizzy" you speak of the distributor cap? I didn't want to rev it very high, because of the ticking noise, so I'm not sure if it's low on power. I would imagine it is, since it stalled several times getting it out of the bush. I didn't take her over 2000rpm, fearing something would REALLY go wrong. I haven't checked the exhaust smell. Haven't changed the oil, I checked the dipstick and it wasn't milky, I changed the oil 500km ago. I'll go check it tomorrow now that I've got her at home. Water wasn't above the hood which is suprising... it was only to my doors..... wierd Intake box didn't look that wet on the engine side of the filter, but then again it was dark and I couldn't see well, flashlight fell in the water..... I'll try to take a video of it tomorrow so you guys can hear it. It's pretty loud. I don't know what a ticking lifter sounds like, but to me this sounds like a piston is moving too far or something... and topping/bottoming out. I dono. I'll get a video so everyone can see/hear what I am. Thanks everyone, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Hey, think the timing belt could have slipped and the timing is off?... maybe? or am I just hoping for the impossible
  24. Cause a bent rod will cause one piston to have more travel right? Increasing psi within the cylinder? Or am I totally off.. It sounds like one piston is topping out almost... I dono.
