  1. It is time to change my timing belt as my baby has 117,000 on her and I do not know if it has ever been changed. I did a search and was not satisfied with the results. so I figured i would just ask you guys. You have all helped me out a lot in the past. so here it goes, does anybody have a step by step process on changing the t-belt?? pics would be awesome. and can you guys tell me what tools i will need for the job. I not done much engine work but i hear it is not too hard to change the t-belt. any tricks or things i need to remember when doing this would also help. thanks guys and girls. :gossip:
  2. Awesome thanks guys!! I will attempt to do all of that this weekend. come to think of it about a year ago my wife's honda accord died on her way to work one day I pulled it back checked stuff that i thouht it could be then had to take it in. well the timing belt had broken so we paid like 400 or so to get it fixed. about three months later my wife mentioned that it was jerking a little at idle. So I got in it and drove it and it drove like Sh%$ literally. No power and jerky so I knew this was bad. Took it back in to the shop they called me and said compression tests were next to nothing. to make a really long story short, I had to have the top half rebuilt all new heads valves everything. Of course when it dawned on me that the belt might have been the culprit i confronted the mechanic he quickly back pedalled gave me some bs discounts and pretty much bent me over. So I am going to take your advice and change the tb as soon as i can.
  3. First off thanks to everybody for all the advice. I have done some "minor repairs" and could not have done it without your help. Now it is time for routine maintenance my 97 has 117,000 miles on her and she runs great but i know it is time for routine stuff. I am short on cash so I can not to the timing belt and whatever else i should do while i am in there but i can do plugs and wires. what i am asking is what plugs should i use wires? cap too? and does anybody know any tips on changing that crappy plug in the back that is blind? any advice helps. also just thought i would ask... anybody know where to get a skid plate maybe used? i know black panther has new ones but again short on cash. thanks everydody.
  4. I have bfg's and agree they have never let me down in any weather condition or off-road. I think the bfg's give a little more road hum than the revo's. but personally i like it. I am a weekend warrior off roader (wish i had time and money to do more) but my tires have impressed me alot. I am a bfg fan all the way. all around good tire. meaty looking too on the pathy.
  5. Ok i got one back in the good ole days of high school. me and my buddies got drunk in front of my parents house and decided to go to a party well in order to stay out all night i told my parents i was staying at my buddy johns house. no big deal so proceeded to go to the party half way there it dawned on me that three of my friends were not with us i did not think too much of it meantime my three friends had passed out at my house one on the tailgate of his truck out on the curb in front of the house!! one on my bed and one half way in the bathroom. I ofcourse did not know this as there was a large group of us. well we get to the party and throw down hard-core, lots of alchohol and drugs involved. so now it is 4 in the morning and even in my drunken stuper i realize my friends are at my house and i am not. So i have to sneek them out. WE hop in my buddies truck and hall a$$ cutting through peoples front corner lawns and having a good time until i decide i am feeling a little queezy so here we are going like 60 in a 30 through neigborhood and i have my head out the window puking my indards out..... anyway we finally get turn the corner on my street and i see my friend passed out on the street!! he had rolled off his tailgate and smaked the concrete. so we get out and laugh at him for like a half our before checking to see if he was alright. i get my composure back and decide to get my other friends out of my house so we can keep partying so i unlock the front door and step in wham trip over something and fall literally flat on my face. no bracing or anything. would have really hurt if i was not so wasted. suddenly the light comes on and there are my parents and my other two friends sitting in the living room. I had blood gushing from my nose didnt even think twice about it cause i knew how much trouble i was in. I looked back and seen that my parents had moved the coffee table in front of the door not knowing how hard i was going to actually fall. needless to say i was in trouble for a long time but it sure is fun telling that story and reliving it with all my buddies that moved out here iwth me to colorado. I got more to tell later gotta to back to work for now.
  6. sly sounds like you either fouled out the electrical or the air filter got wet.
  7. If i bought those rims i would put pics of my a$$ and moon everybody that drove by me. then i would probably come to my senses and drove off a cliff.
  8. Yeah i cant quite sink that much cash into her right now. I need armor first i guess i was getting ahead of myself with the locker. it is that i get all excited reading all the threads about all this cool stuff like lockers hubs rock sliderz lifts worked up. I am calm now, I have not been wheelin my pathy much as it is a baby taxi (for now) but first thing i think i need is some skid plates I was wanting the 10guage from marcel but i think he has sold them all. oh well i will keep looking. thanks for the info everybody.
  9. ok so i started a photobucket account. sorry
  10. ok this is really pissing me off i downloaded photobucket so i could upload pics. somebody said it would resize your photo automatically yeah right!! well it does not so i resized them manually and in photobucket it says image is like 320x240 pixels or something but when i cut and paste the img to my thread bam it is like 1280x960 or something again. it takes like three pages. can somebody tell me what the hell is going on. this stinks. :help: :help: :help:
  11. :help: sorry about the picture i uploaded it from photobucket thought it was supposed to resize it on it's own guess not though. i apologize.
  12. man i hope your truck is alright oil change places s&^%
  13. -argue- Ok there are some pro's and cons to synth. all i know is i have a camaro SS and when synth started coming out i was all about it. my dad started running it in his cadillac. I ran my car "really" hard and fast so blew gaskets here and there then blew the motor. mechanic said not to run the synthetic. if i was going to be racing it around. My dads cadillac was 3 years old when he started running synthetic it had about 18,000 miles on it. at 75000 the bearings went out and the crank!!! And trust me my dad drives very easily. Mechanic could not say definetly whether it was because of the synthetic but never the less he switched back (bought a new car too) and to this day not a problem with either my dads car or mine although mine does not get driven very much at all. All i am saying is it is totally by decision but if you change your dino on time there is no difference but price... besides how long have they been selling dyno oil???? it's gotta work.
  14. Ok I took you guys's advice and downloaded photobucket. so i can upload some pics of my pathy playing and stuff. my question is now what i uploaded a pic to photobucket, now how do i get it on my posts on this site? I am not that computer savy so i need a step by step. if anybody is willing to take time out to help me i would greatly appreciate it. or if there is an easier way to upload my pics that would be cool too. i have a pic resizer and i have shrunk my pics down and they are jpg format but it still tells me it can not upload the files. that is why i downloaded photobucket. somebody please help me out. thanks.
  15. Yeah i think I will stick with my 97 i like the ground clearance but otherwise that thing is "fugly".
  16. the best thing to do is practice, and remember not to hit the brake hard or you are screwed judge your stopping distance twice as far as you normally would. And if you do start skidding LET OFF THE BRAKE people think if they pump them they will work __wrong___ i live in colorado and drive in alot of snow (whenever i get the chance) and i have learned the best thing to if your are skidding is let off the brake, this way your wheels start turning again and you should be able to atleast steer away from cars into a ditch or something, trust me i have done it. in my camaro. now i know in some situations you can not steer away if your in that situation then you did not brake soon enough so you gonna get what's coming to ya. that is the fact of ice and snow. As far as tires go we had a bad storm in denver last night and of course i had to drive right through it. traffic came to a stop on the interstate and it was because people could not get traction on the up-hill so the cops shut down three out of six lanes so these rwd morons could spin there tires all night. My truck has 31x10.50 BFG's and i can tell you i stopped on the ice i mean we are talking an ice rink!! thought i was gonna have to drop it in 4wd but i did not have to just lightly hit the gas and went along my way. so people who do not beleive in all-terrains, should come ride with me sorry i rambled i am at work and bored.
  17. I do not have a 2001 pathy i have a 97 pathy and a 2004 chevy 2500 silverado and I do not use synthetic in either for two main reasons first off if your motor is close to leaking like a seal is on it's way out synthetic oil will make it leak alot sooner as the viscosity is alot thinner and it finds leaks and makes them evident. number two is it is expensive and for a vehicle that will be taken off road I would not want to go 5 to 10 thousand miles after i have been wheelin. I suggest using good dyno oil. Save the synthetic for the caddy you buy when your 65.
  18. I too am also interested in price of the 10g kit as i love wheelin but it is more muddin and hill climbing than rock crawlin. the trails i ride are pretty tough but not too bad, I actually turn down some trails because i know my underbody is all but exposed. my splashguard is thrashed so i have almost now protection. 10g to start 3/16 later when i lift it and put on 33's or 35's.
  19. -thnkboutit- I almost forgot i disconnect the battery and take it out since it is for the winter but if your relative is going to be home while your gone just have them start the truck atleast once every two weeks and let it run for a few this will save the gas, oil and no rust in the cylinders and you will not have to disconnect the battery, just a thought.
  20. Everybody here is right, every year i store my camaro outside since my garage is packed tight with my dirt bike and a bunch of crap. I love my camaro so here is what i do... I wax it inside, put alot of amor all on the inside change the oil, then i put stabil in the fuel tank run the car for like twenty minutes (one last hooraa) this keeps the gas in good shape. Then i park it raise it off the tires on jackstands and cover it either with a car-cover or a big tarp. I know it seems like a lot to do for just 7 months but i do it every winter for a few months since i will not be driving my camaro. If you love your truck like i love my cars and my truck then you might consider it. hope this helps have a great time in Maui. -alcohol-
  21. Wow your right 88 that is a big ouch 1200 bucks is a bit more than i want to spend at this point in time. It would be a different story if i was wheelin all the time but right now i am a weekend warrior of sorts so I think maybe i will look into skid plate first then maybe some rock sliders. I am thinking i might need to amor up before i get into the big stuff. Atleast i think this is the way to go any suggestions? I really do appreciate all your advice.
  22. thanks grimgreg i will try it today
  23. I have to give props to all you guys I have learned a ton of stuff about my pathy so thanks. I love my 97 pathy she has never let me down as far as getting stuck hell i even rolled it on its side winched it back and went on my way. I used to go wheelin as often as i could and loved it, the colorado rockies have alot to offer. Anyway i went off and got my wife pregnant so now my pathy is a baby stroller during the week atleast. i plan on eventually buying my wife something else like a subaru outback or something. So i will finally have my pathy back and it will be ready for mods. Sorry for all the rambling i am at work and kinda bored. anyway i do not think my pathy has LSD I could not find any sticker on the axle atleast. what other ways are there of finding out? I want to put warn hubs on the front and a locker on the back if it is not LSD. Can somebody tell me about these I do not have much experience with axles and such i grew up racing my camaro and that time in my life is passing but i love wheelin. Although i must say I have always had good luck not getting the pathy stuck except when I follow my buddies lifted, tricked out jeeps into things i shouldnt even think about. The pathy has impressed all of them though she is one tough b&^%. I love it.
  24. Really glad to hear you are ok things could have been alot worse. And that hill billy does not need to be around heavy machinery.
