  1. Ok i have had time to calm down about the whole deal and yes i am happy that i did this myself as i saved alittle money and i learned alot, but i tell ya that motor is so tight it boggles my mind, i have done some minor engine work on my old 78 grand prix back in the day when you could "climb" in and get the work done. so doing this big a job on a foreign vehicle was my first. what sucks is the truck is sitting there until i can find the time to put on my new crank pulley which set me back 210.00 dollars. guess i have to wait a little bit longer for my skids i wanted.
  2. yeah i know. i will chalk this up to experience. and hopefully get it done within the next couple of days, and like i said my dad got me alot of tools to do the job with. so all is not lost. the job is not really that hard but you really need someone who either has done it before or has done it on another vehicle and knows what to expect. and the right tools make it alot easier. worst part i think was testing the deflection on the tensioner. at first i had trouble understanding what they meant about putting the feeler guage in between the tensioner and the belt but read the manual a little better and got it under control. but again i could not have even gotten this far if i had not listened to you guys thanks.
  3. well i embellished a little bit the puller seemed to bend it then when i loosened it the pot metal cracked then after wrenching on it just to get it off it has a crack and is miss-aligned kind of hard to explain it is completely fubar but it that way. but now the water pump is changed so is the t-belt and the coolant bypass hose, the cam and crank seal was fine no leaking so i am not goin to mess with it. now i just need to wait for the pulley replace the spark plugs change the oil and button everyting up so the end is in sight.....what a pita. though but that is my luck i guess atleast i have learned alot and got some cool tools for the next time
  4. :X yeah your right i have sat back and realized how crappy this turned out for me. i got the pulley so that is not my worry. it is just irritating that i found out that the nissan dealership right down the road has one but they are closed on saturday along with the other shop i found one at. what about the working people like me who can not take more time off of work to do this on a weekday, dont alot of people do mechanic work on the weekend as they have to work during the week... i just dont understand.
  5. -thnkboutit- well guess i should have brought the truck to the mechanic as the pulley spit in half and the re is nowher to get one on the weekend so i am really pissed off right now and ready to drive that truck offfa cliff. give you guys a update in a bit.
  6. Thanks guys and i do have an automatic and i did not think putting it in gear would help but as a last resort i thought about putting the breaker bar against something and bumping the starter but like i said it is a last resort. first i will try another strap wrench that i bought today. if tha tdoes not work i will be buying some sort of impact. have you guys ever heard of an electrick impact wrench?? o friend of my dads said they exhist and i should look in to one? update you guys in the morining maybe i will trry to take pics.
  7. ok i am in the middle of changing the t-belt, water pump and some other stuff and i only have a minute to write this,, i can not get the stupid bold off of the crank to remove the pulley. guess i am going to have to get an impact set. it is just irritating we tried the strap wrench and prybar to no evale, i am stumped and tired of this crap. hope to get this done early tomorrow. any body have any last minute tips for me. any is appreciated. thanks
  8. 10-4 bud.. you know you have given me alot of help, i owe you a beer. thanks again
  9. this is getting out of hand. my views on this, i do not know much about politics but i know i hate this freakin war, i do not agree with bush but at the same time bush is a puppet there are alot of people pulling his strings let's not forget.if this offends anybody i apologize.
  10. god bless every one of you and thanks. now i am mad since i have been thinking about it .
  11. ahha i did not think there was but i did not want to sound dumb. I just wns not sure about the wd 21 as i drive an R-50 thanks venge
  12. Ok i have been searching for awhile and gave up it is taking too muich time. figure i will just ask. my buddy called and said his wifes pathy (wd21) around a 90or 92 the power steering pump gave out he thinks, he said the power steering is not working but it is not whining and it is full of fluid no leaks. and it is all of a sudden. then he said he called a mechanic and that he said the rack & pinion might be failing..... ok i have changed a power steering pump on my wifes honda accord and it was a piece of cake so is it that easy on the pathy??? now i do not know alot about steering components but is the mechanic a little off? i might go and look at it this afternoon after i get off work but figured if i can get some answers and tips before i go it would be cool thanks guys.
  13. I was going to say this exact thing but XplorX beat me to it. Sounds like you need some new tires if you are spinning out of control. I drive my pathy in slushy snow in 2wd and dont swap ends??? you just got be easy with the throttle. i only put it in 4wd when i see the road is snowpacked i have never used 4wd in heavy rain not even when it flooded here a while back.
  14. Are there other ways to tell what model of pathy i have. my pathy was rear ended before so i cannot find any identifying symbols I have been told it was an SE but i want to be sure.
  15. thanks as far as pulling the pulley off i will be getting a harmonic balancer puller just to be safe, and as far as getting it backon and tight i will try to find that v-belt wrench thingy.very cool. i am about to order my parts so i can do the job on friday of next week, i will definitely lit everybody know what happens and what really became a pita as with my luck something always does.
  16. :X aHHH I see, i am mistaken i just want to be able to tighten the crank pulley to the right torque
  17. Ok I am changing the t-belt, water pump, thermostat, coolant recover hose and maybe the cam and crank seals if they are leaking, I have gotten a ton of info from this forum on exactly what to do, but during my search i read that people have a lot of trouble getting the crank pulley off. i will be getting a harmonic balancer pulley for that, but people have also said they have trouble tightening it back up if they do not have a compressor and air-gun. I dont have either of these things and i do not know how i am going to be able to tighten the bolts on it without turning the engine from TDC. Could somebody with experience with this problem maybe shed some light for me. Any other tips on the work i am going to be doing would be helpful too thanks everyone.
  18. I have read alot about people taking them off in this forum can somebody tell me what the purpose of taking them off is? Does it make the pathy wheel better? I have never had any problems off-roading with mine still intact.
  19. Very cool you guys once again you guys came through for me. I greately appreciate it.
  20. Because it actually has medical uses, and hemp can be used for alot of things. we could save a lot of the trees if we used hemp paper for instance. plus the police could start fighting alot of worse crimes than messing with a kid who has a joint. Look i do not smoke pot anymore and i do not know if i would start again if it became legal but all i am saying is i have been there. back in the day i smoked pot all day end day, drove around probably better than some people do sober as i would always be so paranoid. Besides we have alot bigger problems than pot. i say legalize it, tax it and use the money for positive things like finding a way to get our troops out of iraq ASAP. :type: Oh yeah and to answer your question as how to test for it... easy pupils. and certain other tests yeild results instantly. cops could carry an instant pee-test with them... who knows I just do not like people saying smoking pot and driving is as bad as drinking. JUST LOOK at the facts how many people have been killed by driving high compared to being drunk. I rest my case -argue-
  21. ok I preformed numerous searches with minimal results. How do I do self-deagnostics and get the error codes. i know it sounds silly but i do not know how to get my error codes or what i need to get them. I have never had to deal with them in the past as my past cars either did not have the capability or i just did not want find out what was wrong.
  22. gee, wish i could help you find the do-hickey but i do not even know what a IaVC valve is or it's purpose. good luck.
  23. -argue- Ok buddy chill out a bit. the search funtion has helped out alot so far. but you also need to maybe tell us what year your rig is, how many miles it has on it too. if your tranny has 135,00 miles on it already i would not put a tranny cooler on yet. because if it is an automatic it will probably go soon depending on what kind of driving you are doing. putting a cooler on a tranny with that many miles on it already is not a good idea in my opinion. it is one of thos things if you start messing with the temp and stuff it will break. that is what i think personally.
  24. Yeah i thinks my 97 has an external cooler in front of the radiator. Does anybody know if these are up-to par or should i look to replace it with an aftermarket cooler in the future? whatever i can do to save the tranny is key. Has anybody had any trouble with the stock tranny cooler??/
