  1. Off chance MAY be that you have a weak electrical system (battery and/or alternator). A low voltage condition can trigger a bunch of lights on the dash as well, but they are usually not related like yours. And with the OD not working right, I am afraid nissandoms47 is probably right, the trannie is toast. But get that SEL/CEL code and see what it says.
  2. I agree. Those who want the Pathy of old, look at the X now. I will when it comes time to replace mine.
  3. I agree. I keep mine in AUTO most of the winter and just forget about it. But beware, it is not as good as a true AWD system like Subaru as it is still a type of slip n' grip rather than having power to all wheels at all times. But it is probably the best of the slip n' grips.
  4. My 02 has the dash mounted switch and yes, as Pezzy noted, it has an AUTO mode. It is called the AllMode transfer case by Nissan. As far as I know, that is all you will find in the LE trim, no floor mounted levers there. What the auto setting does is automatically transfer up to 50% of the power to the front wheels when slippage is detected. It also applies the 50-50 split when starting from a stop, not waiting for slippage to happen first. This makes it a rocket when leaving a stop sign/red light when its slippery out, leaving most others in your wake. So with AllMode, there are 4 settings: 2WD: rear wheel power only; AUTO: as noted above; 4HI: locked power to both front and real axles without a change in gear ratios (so you can shift "on the fly"); and 4LOW: locked as in 4 HI but with a significantly lower ratio (so no shifting on the fly). The AllMode is available only with an automatic transmission. Like any 4wd system, the 4HI and 4LOW should not be used on hard, dry surfaces or else you risk damage to the drive train as there is no "give" in the system to account for the front/rear wheels turning at different speeds on corners. I quite like my system but it does add extra complexity and that means more to go wrong. A note on trim levels: You may run across the "Chilkoot" trim level, this was a Canada only option so do not let it confuse you. I also thought there was an XE level, below the SE? There was in Canada, here they went: Chilkkot, XE, SE and LE as the top line. Good luck and if you have any more questions, just ask. Note that in the links section there are used reviews of the R50's there, they may help too.
  5. For my business I have to drive to places like Prince George, Vanderhoof, Fort St. James and Athabasca. We are talking up to 2,000 km round trip, plus the driving for the client at the destination. Never had any problems, but I always make sure she is in tiptop shape. Fore example, I went to PG 2 weeks ago while they where having -30 weather, so I had my battery checked and sure enough it was a bit weak, so I replaced it before I went. Back road trips are typically limited to 2 hrs or less as it is working time and any more driving would eat too much into the work part of a day. As for fuel consumption, I am very happy with what I get. It is after all a good, off-road capable truck and I do not expect to get the same economy as even our van. If that was important, I would drive a Forester or X-Trail.
  6. I like that colour on you Pathy, very nice. Sorry, can not help on the sensor side. I sometimes get the opposite, no rear light when the hatch is open. Maybe we can both get our questions answered.
  7. Are you looking for R50 or R51 hub caps? Not sure since by your sig you have a R51.
  8. Why does Pezzys truck look brown instead of green on the home page picture (TOTM)? Good job to get it back.
  9. My post was more for Pezzy, we tend to go back and forth on the Canucks vs Laughs Leafs thing, sorry for the unintentional slight. I see there is some talk about the NHL coming back to Winnipeg. Lets hope so, its too good a town not to have a team.
  10. Give him a break, he is from the 'Peg. No NHL team will do that to people
  11. Another used Pathfinder review, the 1996-2000: 1996-2000 Used Pathfinder Review
  12. Here is a used car review of the 96-2000 Pathfinder, essentially the same vehicle: 96-2000 Pathfinder Review The rear bushings as mentioned by Simon and cracked exhaust manifolds are the only 2 real issues. Best of luck!
  13. I also would like to give a tip of my hat to the mods here. They have answered questions I have had and I think dealt with what I have seen in a fair and reasonable way. I will toast you all tonight over a pint of Guinness
  14. Did not read, was told by a dealer that it was a common problem. But in my case it is a lifter that is making the noise.
  15. I have used chains on the front (of a 4wd vehicle), where clearance allowed, but only very very short distances to pull my way through something. Generally, they are best on the rear. Many of the vehicles with strut type front suspension do not have the clearance required for chains on the front. And what does your owners manual say? My philosophy on chains is they should be used to get you out of somewhere. If you are needing them to get into some place, you probably should not be there. No room for error if you do get stuck with the chains on.
  16. Read this thread: Link 1 and this too for a Canadian perspective: Link 2 In those are links to the web site and to the manual (I downloaded it), the manual will answer most of your questions. It looks like a good tool and those that have it say it is good. I just wish there was a better distribution system in Canada. One thing I wanted to read was tranni temp, it can not do that despite there being the TRAN TEMP light on the dash. There may be other sensors that it can not do either. Best advise: read the manual and see if it will do what you want it to.
  17. No law here against it unless you have a commercial vehicle, then you are limited to 5 minutes. Damm Western Canada redneck towns thats me on the left
  18. Yup, our neighborer idles his truck for around 1/2 hour for his 5 minute commute to work And his wife is just as bad, she will let their van sit running for up to an hour before going for a 15 minute trip. Make you sick to see that kind of waste. And it does not matter if it is + 10 or -5 (Celsius of course).
  19. I ordered mine from the local NAPA dealer (Fia brand). It comes with a summer bug front as well. Try on-line too.
  20. OEM, $185 CDN each. And a HUGE difference at night, well worth the money considering how much driving I do in the dark.
  21. I have one and it seems to help, notably with the keeping the trannie warm. I have an aftermarket auxiliary trannie cooler and without the winter front, the trannie just runs too cold.
  22. Took it to a body shop and they tried to polish them up. They are very smooth, but the haze/discolouration is deep into the lexan. Funny, they started going like this not long after using Stoner's Invisible Glass cleaner. Not sure there is a link but........ Won't be using that on the new headlights, just on glass.
  23. Yup, old news. The warmup period for me consists of starting the truck, moving it out of the garage, putting on my seatbelt and filling in the km's in my log book. Then I go. Max of a minute. Doing the long idle warmup does not warm up the trannie or diff. And I seem to get heat faster into the cabin too.
