I had a problem like that with a car I had (69 Datsun 510). The real seal on the motor failed and got oil on the clutch face, then burnt. The clutch was toasted. I do not know for sure on the Pathy but most newer vehicles have self adjusting clutches, there is no way to “adjust” it on your own. Could also be the throwout bearing. Either way you are probably looking at some sort of clutch repair. I am sure more knowledgeable people will post with their experience. Good luck.

I wouldn’t if I used the hitch to tow with, may weaken it too much. I would suggest you look at modifying the bike carrier to make it sit closer rather than mess with the hitch.

Thanks Trialsin26, My mechanic who has nothing to gain by this also recommends the update but with the O2 sensor and taxes it will be $450. Ouch!

Well in Canada it is not :furious: . Also, my own mechanic (who has nothing to gain from this) says it is probably a good idea to do the update. With the update and the O2 sensor, it will be $450. The cost to my mechanic for just the sensor is about the same as what the delear will do the supply and install for.

My first car was a 1969 Datsun 510, bought used in 1979 with 50,000 miles on it. It had the BorgWarner automatic label on the back but was a 4 speed. The previous owner had the auto box fail and it was cheaper to put in a used 4 speed than fix/replace the auto. Was not well done as the carb was not changed so it had cold start problems. I fixed that by going to twin SU's from an MG and a manual choke cable (as well as a Datsun rally cam). Gave me another 100,000 miles of happy and fun motoring!

Thanks patz300 , it is still under powertrain warranty, I will "remind" the dealer :contract: . How about O2 sensors, are they covered under the emission warranty ?

Had the SES light on, so took it to the dealer. An O2 sensor had failed but is working now “but should be replaced” ($230). The dealer also wants to update the ECM software, apparently my truck has never had this done and is many versions out-of-date . Cost: $75 (1 hour labour). Dealer could not tell me what I would get for my $75 (plus $25 in fuel to get there and back plus wear and tear). Anyone know if this is worth it or what the updates do? Dealer says its like updating Windows :X now there is a scary thought! Anyone had this done and noticed anything, good or bad? Thanks, Will

Hope this helps a bit: As you have a 01 (no frame) you can not do the "body" lift :sniff: All you can do is modify the suspension. Go here for another response to the same sort of question. Hope this helps Good luck.

We had a 96 Mercury Mystique before the Pathy and replaced the hoses (all 10 of them!!!!) after five years. They looked good on the outside, felt fine when you squeezed them but the inside was a sticky mess. We see temperature extremes from -40 to + 40 C, so it pays for some preventative maintenance. This is my first auto for bush work but the wife has to drive the truck as well and she is not very comfortable with a manual. But I do really like the All Mode 4wd that only comes with the auto, it works better than I anticipated. Need to be careful not to fry the breaks on the steep hills! (don’t ask how I know )

Here is a review of the 2005 XTrail. Review Link Any thoughts or actual experiences with this vehicle as far as off road capability goes? Except for lacking a low range, it seems better than the other cuteutes out there with a mini version of Nissan’s AllMode 4wd and 7.8 inches of ground clearance. The reviewer is pretty up-beat about it off road abilities. Looking for some thoughts as a potential future replacement for my 02 Pathy. The XTerra is too much 4x4 for my needs and the 05 Pathy is not to my liking. Thanks, Will

I do the fuel filter every 10,000 km (every other service). Lot cheaper than doing major injector work; we also can get some pretty dirty gas around here and with the dust...... :o How about your air filter?
