Installation of Rear Speakers

Just got my 6x9's only to find out that they're just a tad to deep and hit the bottom of the speaker enclosure.

Was wondering what others have done in this situation. I'm going to fabricate something but thought maybe someone else has a better idea than mine.

Thanks!

yeah, in the ceiling? i shopped around to find a speaker that'd fit.. alpine seems to be the only one.. the back ones still don't fit perfectly.. i still need to put like some washers or something to take care of a gap between the speaker lip and the "frame".. mine are actually not screwed in at all.. couldn't find any screws/bolts that would fit at the time i messed with them and that was over a year ago.. the plastic grills hold them in place just fine and i have done my share of jarring.

i did find paper ones just like the original Clarions at NAPA for like $20 or something a pair.. i

I just have some Pioneers 5x7s back there. Had to drill some holes for them though. They almost bottom out in the ceiling. You're better off just making a spacer for it if you want to use those 6x9s although you will not be able to put the speaker cover/grill back on.

go to any car audio place and ask for a four plastic mounting bracket/spacer things for some 6x9s, dont pay more than 5 bux, since they usually give em away. i put two between each speaker when i did my 6x9 swap.

Thanks for the pics, are those the stock grille covers??

I got some Sony Xplod 6x9's that I was going to try and install. I also just ordered some 4" front speakers from crutchfield. While speaking of front speakers how does that door panel come off? :D

The credit for this info goes to another poster but I lost that info since I just copied the text.

First unscrew the door lock cap(if so equipped), then unscrew the armrest (there ARE screws in there, man), remove that, take out the doorlatch release handle cup screw and remove that and it's trim.

If you have manual windows remove the window crank handle. By now you should have a bare door panel. The rest of it is held on with plastic clips from behind.

Use a wide-bladed screwdriver or panel removal tool to carefully pop the

clips off.

Then lift up a bit on the panel and shuffle it back and forth to loosen it all up, and it'll come off. You'll see your speaker after it's off.

not stock grill covers, they came with the speakers. Also, a nice little spot for a small amp for the 6x9s is where the jack is suppose to go. if you get the right size amp, the jack cover will cover it. :)Post some pics when finish.

HAH! Went to work on the driver side speaker enclosure this weekend and it took me about two hours with the dremel tool to make the Focal speaker fit. Looks kinda funky but everything is covered by the grill so no biggie.

There's a huge difference in highs but what can you expect when the stock speakers just used basically paper cones for the high end. Now to do the other side!
