Synthetic Oil

So Canadian Tire has Quaker State synthetic oil on for $25 for 6 l. They also have Fram oil filters for synthetic oil on sale, 40% off.

 

Does synthetic oil need a special filter? This is all new to me so any insight would be appreciated.

I have never heard of the need to use a "special" filter for synthetic oil

You can run any filter you want. I happen to use the Mobil1 Filter becuase if I am going to use good oil, why spoil it with a crappy filter?

For all intents and purposes, you can make decisons assuming synthetic oil is nothing more than an ultra-ultra-refined oil with far superior additive packages.

 

No, that's not exactly what it is, but it is how it behaves.

Any filter you want. I just changed mine with Mobil-1 synthetic and a Purolator oil filter, but that was just because I didn't feel like spending my lunch money on a Mobil-1 filter too.

Went out and got a NAPA Gold filter, supposed to be very good.

Yes, the NAPA Gold's are made by Wix and are very very good filters. Definitely cannot go wrong with them. When I do my own oil (it's a royal PITA with the skids and it's difficult to do laying on your back in snow), I use the NAPA Gold and Valvoline Max Life 5W-30 Synth Blend. Works great.

That is why I pay someone to do it (plus it is a business expense )
