1995 Pathfinder clicking front end left side

Driving the 1995Pathy/auto on dry pavement 70 kph the other day in 2wheel high like normal when I heard this clicking coming from what seemed to me to be the from the front left auto hub or diff. As I pulled it over and slowed down it did too. Just before I stopped the truck it clunked into place ( seemed to be trying to shift into 4x4 ) but I was not calling on 4x4. So I backup as though to disengage the 4x4 because it felt like it was on. I only heard a little clik. So onward I went, about 500 metres more then it happened again. When i pulled over this time I engaged the 4x4 and then i got home with no more problems and no more cliking or clunking. I am now in 4x4 and it works great but my tires do not like it and my pocketbook does not either. What would that be? I have another used autolocking hub that i'm going to try but other than that, all cv driveshaft boots are in great shape and its a definite 4x4 feel when it CLUNKS.

PLEASE any help would be much appreciated...

When was the last time the autolocking hubs were disassembled, cleaned, inspected for wear or damage and relubed ? I'd guess not for a long time ? Thats where I would start.

It's not too hard and only a couple of tools required (incl snap ring pliers). Your manual will give you the step by step process...

Only bad thing I have really heard about the WARNs is the studs they come with to mount the hub are junk. Most people swap McMaster Carr part #91290A442 for the hub bolts, they are hex head like the factory ones.

Ahh, good catch !! That would have confused me to find the clicking side in good working order... Interesting that the other side was the cause. Thats one to remember ! :aok:

Good catch, I need to lube mine up soon B4 I have an issue; Once I get it back from the shop! :( $2750 to rebuild the tranny and a new clutch kit (while they were in there) After over 220,000 miles the bearing became square :D

14.5 hours for a tear down/rebuild.

So much for the lift this summer! :sniff:

I've had the WARNS on since February, and have abused the hell out of my truck on some trails with them, and couldn't be happier...I've replaced the stock WARN bolts with hex head grade 8's and they're snug as can be...good quality, I'd highly recommend them to replace your auto hubs if you do any kind of moderate wheeling...some will say "why?"...and I usually just say "why not?" :P
