I've always kind of wondered what you guys would do if you where on a trial and a TRE or some other IMPORTANT steering componant broke.

 

anyone ever had that happen while on the trail? How would you get it home?

It has happened to some... and they either change them using the spares they carried, leave the truck and go get some replacements (while praying that the trucks in one peice when they get back) or call a tow truck (how fat is your wallet?)

not that fat! hah! I dont know a single tow truck driver that's willing to leave a gravel road... airlift time baby!.. it almost be worth it for the pictures.. whats that cost anyhow? 1000 bucks an hour?

it cost a buddy of mine 300 when a semi truck tow truck shoed up where he got his heep burried in mud.

Carry spares. If you break one, it can be welded back together if you have some way of welding it. Use a small-size wrench on either side and weld the wrenches to the broken ends of tie rod. Re-adjust the length if necessary and go easy on it.

Actually had to use one of my spares to limp a Frontier off a trail after one of his bent. Tapers are not the same so it trashed my spare, but worked enough to get him back to camp where there were people who did have spare Frontier ones.
