Harbinger
I found this posted on vwvortex and it looked pretty neat. Anyone seen This before? Or had any experience with it?
FLApathy
that a brake flusher thingy, ive seen smaller ones at my dads shop and they need to be hooked up to air in order to work, they suck out the old brake fluid while somebody dumps i new fluid
Precise1
Considering he says oil change pump, no I don't think it is for brakes. Did you look at the link ? I'm not sure as your post is barely legible. Harbie, I can see some applications for that, but I doubt you'd be able to feed a line into many motors that would do a better job than just pulling the drain plug. I know occasionally it is handy to have a vacuum source, but in general, I wouldn't get one. If I had an automotive shop, maybe... B
94extreme
topsider has been around for years and is rather popular and from what i understand it's pretty good. lot's of senior diyers seem to use them alot.
87pathy
I have used them on motor boat engines. The only problem with them, is normally they go down your dip stick hole and you can't get all the crap out of the bottom of the pan

jonathanjdfraser
i do it the old fashion way in my pathy, cause its a pain in the ass to get the hose all the way down the dip stick hole without laying the damn pump on its side, but definatly have one for my boat motor, nothin better, not a drop even makes it into the lake.. i change my oil prolly 5 times a summer
Precise1
I can see where it makes sense for boat motors and other applications as well, but to promote them for car oil purposes seems silly other than pure marketing... maybe if u did or do work in a shop u would have seen/used/heard them Some people's children !!! Slick
at first sight i thought that thing was a mini pressure washer.. i was loke.. coool.. for motor oil? wtf.. take less time to zip under the pathy and pop the plug out.. now.. the brake thing would be schweeeeeet.. bleeding brakes is such a PITA
94extreme
i really don't think this is silly. it's supposedly works really great.. no mess, no crawling under ones vehicle... sounds pretty good to me..
Precise1
it's supposedly works really great.. no mess, no crawling under ones vehicle... The best way to change your oil is to drain is hot, just after running. (Yes, I do this as much as possible) This is to remove as much sludge and sediment as you can. I cant see this device doing it as well as just removing the oil filler cap, and then the drain plug. As for getting underneath, it's a 4x4 !! Drop on your back and slide under, it takes 30 seconds ! I can never remember if it is 14 or 17mm so I just grab the entire socket bar... B

94extreme
that's how i do it too B but that doesn't mean it's a bad product.. anyone that has used it seems to rave about it.. can't be that bad... when one is 60, i bet it's not so easy to just crawl under one's vehicle either... and on my mustang it's a real pita because the darn thing is so low to the ground.. I was thinking the same for my VW -- its low enough my floor jack won't get under it without driving it onto some 2x4's first.
Precise1
What I'm trying to say is that I wouldn't use it for cars or anything else that had a 'normal' drain plug for engine oil... I'd drive the car on 2x4's, etc to gitrrrr done. If someone else wants to, thats their business. \ B
Grumpy
A little OT -- As for the brake fluid topic, a turkey baster is a good way to draw old brake fluid out without pumping it all through the system. Because brake fluid is toxic, don't use the baster again in the kitchen, unless you want to kill everyone at the Thanksgiving table, (which at times might seem like a good plan )
