1995 Pathfinder wouldn't start, got new battery installed... now she's dead..

have a 1995 Pathfinder, 4x4, she's blazed quite few paths in her day, saved my life at least once, and has always been a real trouper no matter what hell we seem to get into, every time.

I am desperate though, I bought a new battery for her (made sure it's compatible and rated for my car).....

Brand new battery, car won't start.... doesn't turn over....  no lights.... no sounds.... not even a click click click....

We have power to the ignition key, and power from the steering column.

All fuses are good under the dash.

Relays and fuses under the hood have also been checked and seem to be good.

Apx a month ago, we removed the Prolock ignition sec system.  Car has been running great until this morning, when it just stopped.

Any suggestions about where to start looking/checking?

There is just no power going anywhere, starting at the battery level....  I did have the battery checked, and it does power, it's brand new and I have been fortunate that my friend/neighbor is really great with autos, but I need a little direction please!

You have power at the key itself, or at the switch? What are you checking at the column? Do you mean you've got no dash lights, or are the dome and headlights out too?

I would check your work with the alarm system removal. If the ignition switch has come unplugged, or a connection to or from it has failed, that could explain a lot.

I am assuming you've already checked the battery terminals.

The Prolock security wiring with the female key chip receptacle located in the steering column had to go.  It finally gave out, the key was OLD, to start the car for the past 15+ years, you had to hold the key with your right hand, pushing the key carefully upward into the slot to make contact, while at the same time using your left hand to turn the ignition switch on.

We did extensive research to fix this problem for a long time before implementing any repair.

The car actually has been running better for the past month, ever since getting rid of that lame-ass prolock.

It was a simple job and removed very carefully.  All of the wires were checked within the steering column, dash was taken apart and checked, fuses under the dash and under the hood have also been checked.

I'm betting it's got something to do with grounding of the battery and/or the fusible links....

And I'm really hoping that someone else has had a similar situation and what the outcome was.

We have another car, a Jetta, however, that one was totaled almost 2 years ago, it's sitting in our extra parking space we pay $50 per month.... while the responsible party's insurance company refuses to pay for damages...so lawsuit continues

AND NOW

Really need the Pathfinder to work a little longer... Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated 👍 🙂

My fiance is attending college, retraining thru LNI, I got hurt at work a few years ago and have Dr appts and major back surgery to look forward to.. oh joy.

Thanks for reading this post, and even more thanks for any help 😁

I've got the parts ordered, won't be here till Thursday... Fingers crossed...

We still have to check ground connections on the block and I think the starter too.

Of course, Pathfinder has quite a few miles, oil/dirt caked nicely all over the underside...

I'm not looking forward to checking the engine block 😁
