statikuz
All sorts of spark plugs have been talked about here, search for it. =) NGKs are good I hear, some people have had problems with the Platinums but your mileage may vary...
armelius2
I just put NGK's in mine. Replaced the autolites. Probably won't get the platinum autollites again.
MaritimeMan
Ok, ok, I said it before and I'll say it again. All those fancy smancy $6-7 a pop sparks plugs really won't do much unless you upgrade your entire ignition system as well. Sure "they provide better spark", but with what? The exact same current supplied by your ingition, so you end up with the exact same spark more or less with those, than with the cheepies.. So, I personally can't justify tossin cash into a product that really won't do anything, unless I upgrade the whole system. It would be equvilant to putting racing cam into your motor and not upgrading you intake, exhaust and ECU. Oh, and I use NGK's BTW. M.M.
88pathoffroad
NGK's. Stick with what works. Platinum plugs don't usually give you any special bonuses, either.
nige
yeah ditto, i use the NGK's too. They're supposed to burn hotter than any other plug, plus they're cheap
Slick
I have the Champion truck plugs...always used them with great results in all my trucks.....
mudfinder
i just changed my plugs and wires. i put the NGK's and bosch wires. my path still runs like Sh!t, i've changed the pcv valve, plugs, wires, gas filter, i've added injector clear. still bogs and hesitates. and now when i punch the gas, the rpm goes up down up down up down. the check engine light isn't on or anything. any other ideas on what it can be? oh yeah. i also don't ahvea any vacum leaks. mudfinder
i checked the fire order with the wires. everything is properly hooked. as for as the o2 censor, i'll get one tomarrow and hook that on up.
nige
may be a dumb question but did you gap your plugs before installing them? They are never good right out of the package. I think it's supposed to be .33" -- .35" or something like that.
mudfinder
they did come pre gapped and yeah i did check them and they were correct. i also just changed my o2 sensor like 10 min. ago and same sh!t. i give up already can't find what the problem is. vacuum lines are good, plugs, wires, pcv valve, o2 senser, fuel filter, injectors, distributor, i think my next option is either a new truck or new engine. mudfinder
regarding the o2 sensor how long does it take until i notice a difference? should i feel a difference as soon as i turn it on after replacing it or will a take time?
statikuz
I think there's threads about this already; you might have to disconnect the ECU before you notice or something; search about it, I vaguely remember something...
mudfinder
right on, thanks alot man. i'll try to find it in my repair book.
mudfinder
ok...i checked out my haynes books and it doesn't say anything about disconnecting the ecu after replacing the o2 sensor. statikuz, i don't if you meant that for replacing the o2 sensor or just disconnect it period. statikuz
I'm pretty sure you need to disconnect the battery and reset the ECU to make it acquaint itself to your new sensor. Someone else chime in here...? Edited February 27, 2005 by statikuz
mudfinder
i did this connect the battery and same results. but thanks for your guys help.
88pathoffroad
I've never gotten plugs pre-gapped correctly out of the box. They've always needed gapping first...and yeah, re-set the ECU and let it re-learn your driving habits for a few days, it should give you results by the end of your first tank of gas.
