Love At First Sight With My '88 Terrano

allo everyone.

Cyrus here. Currently in New York, although I was born in Zimbabwe and spent most of my life in England.

I came across my 88 Terrano/Pathfinder a couple of weeks ago on the side of the road and instantly fell in love. I'd always liked them growing up but haven't seen on in these parts (Long Island) ever really so as you can imagine, I was super eager to acquire it and 500 dollars for 128k miles and great shape all around was well worth it in my opinion.

As this is the first vehicle that I've bought that requires work done by myself, I shall be asking a lot of questions here I am sure, and I apologise in advance for the ignorance that my accompany my queries.

Pictures to follow as soon as I figure out how to.

Cheers for now

Get yourself a photobucket account(free) and host your pics from there using the tags and get them posted up! When was that timing belt last done?

cheers! photobucket account in the works

i have no idea when the timing belt was done. I will suggest that it's been quite a while.

Greetings!

128K miles on an 88! nice find!!

And welcome to the States! I myself was born in Saudi Arabia(parents worked there), grew up partially in England and then we moved to Arizona. There's lots of Aussies and Kiwi's on here and I thought one or two South Africans so we are pretty international.

Welcome to the fun!

whereabouts in Saudi? I did some work in Dahran and Riyadh when I was at university...

during your time in England, did you follow football, and if so, what team do you support? This will determine if we get along or not.

i was quite amazed at seeing 128k on her as well. I bought it from a bloke who's father was the first and only owner so it makes sense I suppose if it was his second vehicle.

My dad worked for Raytheon and Litton in Jeddah.

Haha, of course I followed football. I am and always have been, and always will continue to be an avid Manchester United fan. Yourself?

I'm a 3rd Generation United supporter, mate, so you're tops in my book already. I'm gutted about the last week of results though - bloody awful showing.

I never had the opportunity of seeing Jeddah in my short time there :(

I've been calling junkyards on Long Island and no one seems to care for the first generation pathfinders, i'm afraid, so if you have a source that i can use, do share.

first repair is the rusted floor panels below the back seats and wheelwells... the engine runs like a champion thus far so i'm lucky

i am still deciding what my approach should be for her. since adding pink accents has already been done, i'll have to go to plan b *wink*

Jeddah is nice because its on the coast, but apart from that its a lot like any other Saudi city.

Thank God, I thought you were going to tell me you are a Liverpool or City supporter. It was a pretty sad game, but hopefully Rooney's injury won't be too bad.

we've become too dependent on roon this season to a fault, but i reckon now we'll have to pull something out of the magic chest to capture the premiership... i'm certainly not looking forward to the stress of these last few games though...

Welcome Cyrus!! Sounds like you have have found a good ride, hopefully it won't need much work unless that is what you want to do. Regardless, we can help you...

As for the foot ball, well, it's none of my business that you have a keen eye for men in short pants.

are your ''rcoker panels'' paint or did you add another piece of metal to the body?

at the moment, i am in need of side steps, but i reckon getting them for the 2-door will be quite a task...

thanks in advance for the help that i am sure i will get here...

and as for football, it's one thing to be keen on blokes in shorts, but i am still wondering how the american throwball fans justify the tightpant bumpatting rahrah ness of it all...

I make far more fun of the guys here that spend all their free time watching grown men in tights jump on and grapple with one another... ;) Homoerotics, all of it!! Not to them, it's manly!!

I don't watch sports, I just make fun of them. Or perhaps, even more so of the rabid fan base. I'm glad you like your sport and team, but I'll cheap shot you any time I can. It's all good, and I think you can hold your own...

Just paint with a rust hole patch under it on one side. Looks like you have a step on the drivers side at least but with a little help you can generally make differnt ones work. IIRC 2 and 4 door wd21's have the same wheelbase so 4 door steps will work and mine I actually got off a King Cab Hardbody.

that's good to hear. i haven't seen a single 2 door wd21 in these parts since i got mine and i've been looking furiously.

Probably because you are in rust country. In the south and west they are as thick as fleas...

so now i know where to go for parts.

i'm quite happy at the apparent rarity here - people almost don't know what the heck it is
