Are there any tricks for the r50s maintance,I gotta change the oil and other stuff to day one a 96 model and I want to do a run down on any thing that I might of missed.I'm going to take a guess and say that the engine hold 3.5 quarts like the 3.0 and that the filter maybe the same one for the 3.0(I have a filter for a 95 and if it'll fit I'll use it)I'm not going ask on what kind of oil I should uses because its getting the cheap stuck(quaker state or mobile 5000)or maybe pennzoil since I have 25 quirts of 10-30 sitting in the garage.Ok,also the cv is making noise in 4x,it has auto hubs so inst the cv always spinning and the hubs arnt ingaged. If not then its fine,Also, what gear oil should I throw in the rear axle and the t-case take Dex3 right like on the wd21s?

Then the front diff must not be engaged because if it was then its a all-wheel drive, they could be engaged all the time but it shouldnt be a problem because with the fron diff locked out then there just free wheeling and dont have the strain on them like when there in 4x...

They're a flange set up. The CVs are always turning but are engaged/disengaged from the transfer case only. You can install aftermarket Warn hubs, so they don't turn all the time and improve the gas mileage.

Maintenance tip:

When replacing oil filter:

•Loosen the oil filter, but don't break the seal to let oil leak out.

•Place a ziplock sandwich baggie over the filter while you unscrew it and remove it. The oil will drip into the sandwich baggie instead of down onto the steering rack and bushing, which will deteriorate rapidly after it's been soaked in oil.

The 96 Pathfinder does not have auto hubs. It has drive flanges which lock the front drivetrain to the front wheels. The front drivetrain always rotates when the wheels rotate. You notice the CV clicking only when in 4WD because that's the only time there is significant torque applied to the front wheels.

As mentioned above, you can install automatic hubs (such as from an Xterra) or aftermarket manual hubs, to improve MPG and decrease wear and tear.

The oil filter is not the same as the 95, Sal. you have to remove the skidplate underneath to get to it as well. It is a smaller filter.

Also the timing belt has the same interval as your 95. 105k miles. Do it before it breaks.

Also check the rear link bushings.

Its been down,I looked up the oil filter and it said I can get at it by removing the inner fender(plastic part)It also says its on the driver side so i'll get it done tomarrow,I did the rear axle lube and noticed it needs a new breather on the diff so that'll be ordered tomarrow.
