B lol, no, but I would think that that to get up to 105 at 4500 he should have seen improvement lower down. make sense? or am I just retarded? lol

I wouldn't say allot of anything just yet.... yes I did set my new speed record, and yes it seems I can use higer gears @ lower RPMs Like 4th @ 1500rpm (under 35mph) to cruise on flat grade with no groaning or lugging sound unless I try to accelerate too hard. I'm still messing with timing and it smells rich. the intake sounds loud enough for me to think theres a hole under the air box so I gotta check all my lines... all and all Its still too early for solid results but I will keep you posted. I have seen cams so agressive that if you are not agressive with the gas it will stall out trying to get rolling. I've tested the stall-ability (this grind will work on automatics) and a few times I've put in the clutch to start it only to find out it hadn't yet died lol Drive up here and let me hear it already! Lol I passed your work the other day and thought about stopping by but it was 5ish so I though you might be gone already... but yeh can try to come by some time. The sound is not as obnoxoious now that I have corrected the timing some but u can still tell its differant once it warms up and the idle drops. nismothunder
A more agressive grind makes the torqe band come on in higher rpms, thats why people get so called RV cams because they make the power lower(idle up)Its really depend on how you plan to run the engine,it may only see strip use then you may wont one that makes the power high up so you dont kill the tires leaving,if its a off road 4x4 you want it low so you dont have to punch it all the time. MY1PATH
Intake will get louder with cam's, you're drawing in more air, so you're gonna hear it! Nope! Intake MAY get louder. this is more typically seen in the higer rpms and with more agressive cams. A cam as mild as mine should not make it sound like I have a supercharger. the dried up vacum line for my stove pipe door wouldn't stay on making a loud hiss under the air box...the intake sounds loud enough for me to think theres a hole under the air box so I gotta check all my lines... line 3 fixed, Idle is allot smoother and I can hear everything under the hood again.... buzzing of the MSD box, MSD coil & cap the lack of sound from the new lifters broken in with lots of ZDDP and a good 2krmp run-in sounds like my T-belt is a little tight (I was only able to twist it about 80-85 degrees) I'm sure it will quiet down as it breaks in. all seems to be well, still smells a little rich. but I have a few Ideas in mind to lean it out. MY1PATH
2.25 from headers down with a high flow cat and a bigger intake ? are you saying thats what I should do? or are you on a wrong thread? neither of those will lean out a mixtre. not to mention, I already have both... I was thinking more along the lines of conroling the %of air that goes by the MAF passage in the side like installing a large set screw in place of one of the plugs on the tb and calling it the mixture screw. or placing a mesh over the air passage under the injector cap(leads to MAF) to slow down the air in the passage. the idea is that the egine takes in the same amount of air but the MAF can be make to think its taking in less and thus the lean out the mixture. I'll need to get an Air/Fuel meter because it might only be rich @ idle in which I'll just leave it alone.... MY1PATH
So I went back to the Dyno today and did 2 pulls. My peak HP went up just a little. my torqe went down. the tech looked @ how it was behaving and said it was a tuning issue. I agree, I been having trouble with it wanting to run rich.... 2 things to look at here. 1)first off I was way to conservative with my grind. I had no solid info on schneiders Mild cam and mine was more mild that that. ~ I reccomend the Schneider 256H Grind for anyone who whants something mild for low end. the changes I made to the duration were subltle and without being able to time events(because the biggest change was the intake closing sooner) the ecu may be having trouble with the ammount of advace I added to the intake (closes so earler ecu so sends fuel too late) 2)I Had a staggered duration so that the intake lasts longer than the exuast(254in 252ex) to compensate for the TBI manifold being so restrictive. Well the ECU may not be able to compensate for what the cam is compensating... so would have to I increase the exhaust duration to match the intake and things might get better... So If I set to it and change my cam design to correct issues 1 & 2 I pretty much end up with almost the same grind as the Schneider 256H Grind. and hey, I'm just the rookie schneider has been doing cams since before the VG was arrond.(or me for that matter) Edited May 26, 2010 by MY1PATH

MY1PATH
There's always something else I can do. Just comes down to $$$ and time. Adding an ajustable air screw to the tbi maf passage might help. running a federal ecu since the CA fuel maps are richer. Ajustable cam gears might help me dial everthing in. Maybe getting the rom flashed to a more compatlible fuel map... beyond that I could try taking full contol and build a megasquirt but if I'm gonna do that I might as well build one for MPFI and do the swap(i been considering that one) The MPFI manifold is so nice and flowing anyway. Really I'm gonna wait for a while and try the Schneider 256H Grind when I provide myself the next oportunity. I have about 1/2" on one of my injector cap vents(feeds air to the MAF passage) blocked to lean it out some and as so I'm getting the same MPG as before and a pinch more HP that can be felt on the freeway. MY1PATH
Any idea what the specs were on the cams that Jim Connor Racing were selling back in the day? I Got pages and pages on almost everything. but Jim Connor eludes me. I'd have to find an old magazine or something(or a member might now(chime in now)) because I'm guessing his productline died before this whole internet thing got huge. beastpath
speaking of other specs, is there a reason places like Schneider and JW Tech don't just copy the specs Nissan Motorsports put out back in the day? I couldn't see it being copyright infringement - how can you copyright measurements?
MY1PATH
because each one does a differant thing. the JWT S2 will give you more power than any other cam on the market but you will lose bottom end, have trouble with automatics and likely requre and idle of 1100 or higher. the NisMo 1 & 2 cams are less agressive and provide more polite chariceristics (esp #1) Not sure where the JWT S1 fits in prolly similar to the NisMo #1 and I do belive JWT was the mfjr of the NisMo cams for a while and then Schneider who have been all about poioneering since the 70's have all kinds of differant grinds for all purposes below and between the ones listed above..... I digress, If everyone made coppies how could anybody claim theirs was better? Edited May 27, 2010 by MY1PATH
