Tungsten
Ok here is the deal When going straight at low speeds I can keep the wheel centered but once I start going faster than 55 then I have to keep the wheel slightly turned to the right and the faster I go the more I have to turn it. My alignment is good so I have no idea what is causing this. Any ideas?
GrimGreg
Obviously your alignment isn't good. Just because they can get it in spec for long enough to give you a print out saying it is, doesn't mean that there aren't failed parts. Lift your front end off the ground and try to wiggle a wheel while looking at your steering linkage.
Nismojunky
does it pull when u hit bumps?
Tungsten
the balljoints are good there is no play also the linkage is very good too i'm thinking it might be the steering wheel itself or the worm gear as there is a little play in the steering wheel and another weird thing is the power assist varies, on some days it turns easier and on some days harder

GrimGreg
another weird thing is the power assist varies, on some days it turns easier and on some days harder Does that vary with engine speed and how tight you turn? (If so that is normal.) If your linkage is all good, then you might be out of alignment, or have an unevenly worn tire on the front.
Tungsten
i have fairly new tires, less than 1500 miles on them

Tungsten
checked that, the same pressure all around and its still doing this crazy thing
MY1PATH
I'm a guess the compression/tension rods; as you accerate the for force on them varies, If one of them is shot or worn out it may sift more than the other under high speeds.
Tungsten
Yes that seems like a very good possibility Can it also be a bad steering gear?
GrimGreg
Yes that seems like a very good possibilityCan it also be a bad steering gear? That would just give you a "dead spot" , or slop in your steering wheel if the gear was worn.
Tungsten
could it be a bad alignment caused by steering wheel slop?
Xetabur
The problem your describing is the same one I'm having. At low speeds it tight but as I speed up the steering gets play in it. Very annoying and very unsafe.
Tungsten
Yes that is the same problem I have, I am stumped with this one but I would go for the tension rods.

These trucks are tricky to align properly with stock steering components.
