Power window issue

Good morning. I have a 2002 Pathfinder that my husband and I bought from a family in Tennessee after my truck was totaled in an accident. I have had it since June and love it. My husband is a big Nissan supporter and now that I have driven one for a while, I have crossed over to the Nissan world...

Here is the issues that my PF is having.

Last night, I rolled up the power windows and locked the door for the night. (had to park outside since husband was cleaning out garage, YUCK!!!) Anyway, when I came out this morning to take my daughter to school, both front windows were down, but the doors were still locked.

This really wasn't a concern at my house. But unfortunately I work in the downtown area and don't like the idea of my windows just rolling down for now reason.

Any ideas?

Wow, that's weird...

I know some of the newer R50 pathys have the ability to roll down the windows via the key fob... maybe when you armed the truck, you accidentally hit the correct buttons to do this???

Welcome to NPORA!

Thanks for the Welcome! This is the first time I have ever gotten on a blog. This is way to much fun...

Anyway, I locked the truck with the lock button in the vehicle. I don't like to use the key fob when I am at home. To may CATS in the neighborhood that like to walk all over cars at night. I usually park in the garage so I don't lock it when it is in there...

Does your daughter like to play with her mom's stuff, like keys? If you can control the windows from the fob, maybe someone else did it from in the house.

(Or maybe you picked up a ghost, and they needed some fresh air....)

My daughter is old enough to know not to touch the keys... She asks us to start the car though... It wouldn't bother me so except this isn't the first time it has happened. It happened a couple of weeks ago but the PF was in the garage...

Do they ever move on there own when you are driving along, or just when you have it parked and off?

It only happens when the car is parked and and turned off. Other than that the windows work great. They squeak when you roll them down but that is because the track hasn't been oiled. I am planning on doing that this weekend...

is this the only time it has happened? I have only heard of a similar thing once and it was a bad wire but the windows would activate when they would hit a bump in the road

Okay, it happened again last night. My husband and I both saw it happening. We had one keyfob that got dropped in a rain puddle but we took the battery out of it so it won't work. The 2nd one we have was a good 20 feet away from the car. I was wondering if it could maybe be the garage door opener... It has a rotating sequence. Or could it be a wiring problem? I am sitting here looking at the car right now. It has been parked since 8:20 this morning when I got to work and it hasn't done the mysterious thing.

Could the cooler temperature make it do that too?

I was talking with my husband this morning and suggested that we disconnect the battery for a little while and see if that might help as well.

Any other thoughts???

I think you'll have to either remove the second ones battery or move it further away, as my fathers fob will work for quite a distance away!

Yep....remove the battery from both fobs, while parked in your garage, and see if it happens again. It could theoretically be the garage door opener causing it....though, I'd think that'd be rare.

Do you, by chance, have the homelink system in your truck? I'm not sure if it was even available in R50 Pathfinders, but I am quite sure there were some QX4's that had it. I wonder if that's causing the issue, if so equipped?

I had wondered if it was something like the garage opener, or a neighbours remote??

Yes, mine does have the home link system but it hasn't been programmed to our garage door yet. I was going to try and do that this weekend. I will disconnect the battery in the car and also take out the battery in the remote that I use and see if it does it again. I hope not, because if it does, then it must be something electrical in the vehicle itself. :crossedwires:

Thanks for all of the good advice.

Still love my Pathy though... :)

If it does it with the battery disconnected, you have a magical pathy!

Has it been rainy there latley? Have you washed your rig recently? I remember having a issue similar to this and found water in the door lock actuator connector, inside of the door. You could remove the door panel and watershield, then follow the harness to the actuator. Remove the connector and see if its wet or has corrosion (greenish white color) in the connector and the actuator. Clean it if you can and get some dielectric grease to seal the connector.

The mystery has been solved. The second remote that we have was the culprit... We took the battery out of that one and the windows/locking stopped immediately. Finally figured it out just this morning. My daughter, yes it was her afterall, put the 2nd remote back together and it started the process again. I scolded her very harshly this morning but did take the battery back out of the remote and it stopped. I hated yelling at my beautiful daughter this morning, but my concern was it was going to run the battery down in the truck.

Thanks for all of your help too. By the way, we are now looking at another nissan to drive as well. Husband wants a Maxima now!!!

/\ What he said!! Glad to hear you fixed the problem!

I've enjoyed working on my pathy and will keep in touch. Will try and send a picture up soon. I'm not that computer savvy but with help from the "old man" maybe I can send one up soon.

Thanks again for all of your ideas. It made finding the problem less of a challenge...

By the way, my pathy is only a 2 wheel drive but I will be finding out about the pulling power this weekend. Have to go down to the lake to pull the seadoo out of the water for the winter. Can't wait to see how it does...
