Wheels Lifts And Tires

Ok so when I got my 1988 pathy it was sitting on 32X11.50 tires without any kind of lift. I thought it looked pretty cool like that. I did not have any real intensions of lifting it. But when I started driving it I realized if you crank the wheel as far as it can go it rubs a little. So I started looking at lift kits body/suspension. I realized body lifts a pretty cheap. So I got excited and started looking at witch one/kind I wanted. But then I found out body lifts have down sides (I kind of already new I just wanted one because they were cheap) so I looked into suspension lifts I could afford one but then I would not have any money for GAS. So then I went to the poor mans lift torsion bars and coils/springs whatever you want to call them. And out of all that I have decided on ford 2"inch springs in the back using the torsion bars to gain room in the front and then maybe a 2-3 inch body lift. If you guys have any suggestions on this plan can you let me know. O yea and can some one gives me the rundown on how to adjust the torsion bars or give me a link.

also you guys have been a real help to me and my pathy.

i wil try and put some pics (only got pics of the springs)yea i am repainting my brush gaurd.

I am not trying to be a jerk, but come on, lifts have been covered so many times. there is a ton of info on lifting your truck here, in about any way possible. But you need to put forth a little effort to find it (and I do me a "little")

Once you do a little of your own research then feel free ask any remaining questions you may have, or for clearification on anything you do not understand.

Your best bet is jgc springs. Use the ones out of the front with a v8. This seems to be the most common and it is the method i used. I then cranked my front t-bars and installed b-joint spacers to correct the alignment. This is not the best method but it is the cheapest. The ideal way is to use aftermarket uca's. Use the search function and you will find tons and tons of info everyone here is very helpful. It is all really very easy. My jgc springs yeilded a full 3" of lift on a 4-door with a spare tire carrier.

It's all there in the post's and the "How To's".

I didn't know squat when I first got here and had a bone stock pathy.

Thanks to these guys and all the info they pointed me towards, I just completed a JGC rear lift, along with new UCA's and cranked t-bars for the front.

I couldn't have done it without all of the info here, along with all the help these people gave me.

What exactly are the down sides to having a body lift?

Ya, tell us please. I mean as long as your not stupid and put in a 12" body lift or something. But 2-3 inches on a pathy with 543 bolts holding it together... no issues

well first of all lots of people told me it would look bad coming from a school were everyone diver toyotas i did not pay attention to them much. but i fugured out the all the guts wold be hanging down below the body 2-3 inches(that was a mide bogeler jk) + i was thinking you might be able to see threw the vehical on the back wheel whells(no biggie just puts some plastice pices in there). and then your bumpers need to realined up so on and so forth. but i dont think they are bad i just have been looking at picks of vehicals simmilar to mine with a 2-3inch body lift. some look good some look bad. but over all i think after i do the JGC and the t-bars i think i will give it a 2-3 inch bL. thanks all and sorry for posting too much.

I'm happy with my body lift! If you look at stock blazers for example, the frame is as exposed as a pathfinder after a body lift! Doesn't look to bad really, it sure works good though.

Body lifts are fine in my book. I've had mine installed for more than 5 years now, not one problem. The rear bumper moves up to a different set of holes on the frame and requires two new bolts, that's it. The front bumper gets relocated with the body lift kit brackets. If you don't want to have a see-through look inside the rear fenderwells, get some cheap rubber mat or flooring from Home Depot or a couple of generic mud flaps from a parts store and cut them to size, then screw them on. If you get a 4x4 HB truck next to your Pathy sometime, take a look at how much frame is exposed on those STOCK. It's not that bad, really.
