r0x
Hello and Happy Holidaze to all of my fellow Pathfinder owners! My Pathfinder is just about to celebrate its 9th birthday and 155k miles... I was informed by my local repair technician that the tires are a little bit "torn up" and that the truck would benefit from a new set of shocks and struts to replace the factory originals... What should it cost me, including parts and labor, to have this done? What / which ones should I get? Is it worth it? The vehicle is in good condition otherwise and it has had all of the required maintenance work done. (I am the original owner.) All replies and suggestions appreciated! Thanks, r0x
88pathoffroad
Tire wear has nothing to do with shocks or struts. It has to do with alignment. Aside from that, shocks run anywhere from $30-$80 each and struts are usually around $100-$150 a pair IIRC.
FUELER
are rear struts easy to replace on R50?
muttmobile
are rear struts easy to replace on R50? the rear are shocks, and from what i've read in my haynes manual, it should be a pretty simple job.

OBXbeachpathy
shocks take 5-10 minutes max, easy job. struts can take a while, and can be really hard

FUELER
how much did you pay for your pro-comps and where?
nissandoms47
it was about $96 for the shocks and boots. I bought em at 4wheelparts. I just went to the local warehouse. but they are online.. Calling is a whole lot better then online tho, just to make sure you get the right length shock.
FUELER
do they make different lengths for R50? how are the shocks in terms of smoothness and ride quality?
nissandoms47
i like them, they're stiff but just right for my lift. and these arnt built for the R50, you will need to call them and give them the length. collapsed and extended and then they will search by that. XPLORx4
Tire wear has nothing to do with shocks or struts. It has to do with alignment. Actually, that's not true. Tire wear is can be affected by worn-out shocks and struts. Worn suspension components can cause the tires to become cupped. More info here. FUELER
I can get rear KYB GR2 shocks for $45 each, is that a decent price? Edited December 28, 2006 by FUELER
88pathoffroad
Actually, that's not true. Tire wear is can be affected by worn-out shocks and struts. Worn suspension components can cause the tires to become cupped. More info here. Oh hey, good point. I neglected to consider excessive suspension movement when I was thinking about it. Thanks! $45 for GR-2's is about right, Ranchos cost $40 each too.
FUELER
$45 for GR-2's is about right, Ranchos cost $40 each too. which is smoother?
NismoSkyZ
From my research, i found that the gr-2's are smoother and more reliable.
88pathoffroad
GR-2's are also gas-charged. Ranchos are gas-filled but not as pressurized as the GR-2's. IIRC.
