I found the tool on summit for ten bucks. Can I get it cheaper elsewhere? Nevermind, schucks has 'em cheaper. Snap rings are shaped like a "C" (sometimes called "C" rings but that is not truely accurate as there are real "C" rings)and have tiny little holes at both ends. The pliers compress them for installtion and removal. As for using them again... Yes/No/Maybe... but depending on what you do, Probably not I do not own a set and have actually "needed" them many times. But I have become pretty good and removing and installing snap and C rings without the pliers. Cheap tools = bloody knuckles, fubar'ed parts, and many curses. Buy good, buy once. Not neccessarily Snap On, but Craftsman or comparable quality is the bare minimum you should seek. GrimGreg Posted October 3, 2006 Share Posted October 3, 2006 I actually have a HF set of snap-ring pliers, the larger size ones are OK, but the tiny sized ones are crap. Busted a prong off one. FLApathy Posted October 3, 2006 Share Posted October 3, 2006 Ive become really good at taking them off with 2 screw drivers and most of time destroying enough to make them unusable, then finding the snap ring pliyers as i cuss and throw stuff around.
