I JUST found the thread about the manual trans fluid problem where you need snap ring pliers to remove the shift boot cover to add more fluid. I found the tool on summit for ten bucks. Can I get it cheaper elsewhere?

Nevermind, schucks has 'em cheaper.

Ah, thanks.

Next question. What the hell are snap ring pliers for? Or maybe I should ask, am I ever going to use this tool again after the tranny fluid flush?

Installing and removing snap rings duh! :P

Snap rings are shaped like a "C" (sometimes called "C" rings but that is not truely accurate as there are real "C" rings)and have tiny little holes at both ends. The pliers compress them for installtion and removal.

As for using them again... Yes/No/Maybe... but depending on what you do, Probably not

I do not own a set and have actually "needed" them many times. But I have become pretty good and removing and installing snap and C rings without the pliers.

Ohhhh, young grasshopper. Yee make foolish decision when thee seek cheap tools...

Cheap tools = bloody knuckles, fubar'ed parts, and many curses.

Buy good, buy once. Not neccessarily Snap On, but Craftsman or comparable quality is the bare minimum you should seek.

Unless, of course, you like frustration and pain!

I actually have a HF set of snap-ring pliers, the larger size ones are OK, but the tiny sized ones are crap. Busted a prong off one. I paid like $3 for a set of 5, and for all the times I have used them, it's been a good deal.
