zonianbrat Posted August 7, 2006 Share Posted August 7, 2006 Extreme, I will say that the 5.3 with teh cylinder shuttoff do-hickey does save gas. but just a 5.3 by itself.. not too sure about it. yet another of my company trucks is a 2003 with the 5.3 and it is averaging 12.0. I am not trying to argue just stating facts from my spreadsheets. I also need to add that atleast 85% of those miles are highway also. I am curious about the cylinder shutt-off technology I know at cruising speeds it is supposed to shut-down some cylinders until you push on the gas and need them right? The deactivation feature in trucks is much less effective as it is in say, a Magnum. This is due to the poorer aerodynamics and heavier weight. Basically, it will hardly ever go into 4-cylinder mode. FLApathy Posted August 7, 2006 Share Posted August 7, 2006 I love how everyone says the big SUVs and trucks get bad MPG, when you buy it you know full well it is, if your going to buy an SUV to get good gas milage then you shouldnt have a liscene. If you want a vehicle with good MPG then get a Metro. When GM stopped makeing the H1 they said it wasnt because they get bad MPG, they said that ppl who buy things like that arent worried about gas, that was from one of the off road mags I read. The new GM and Diamler Chysler SUVs with have MDS/ATM as well as a electrical motor made by those two and BMW. And for the record the new SUV's from GM have the best drag rating in its class.
