  1. I forgot to mention that it does it even when the engine is off...
  2. SILENCE! I KILL YOU!!!
  3. I fixed thurr problem! Yer see herrr my blinker juice waz a lil low so I went ahread and topped that puppy up and now shes gullden! Yeehaw sonny!
  4. Starting earlier this week, my blinkers cause my volts gauge needle so shift between 12-14V. 12-14-12-14-12-14, etc. It doesn't matter if the heater is on, headlights, defrost, whatever. Nothing changes with the blinkers either, the heater blows at the same pace and the headlights stay just as bright. I would think with a voltage drop that you would see/hear differences in everything electrical, but I guess not. Both blinkers do it, but the hazard lights don't make the needle move. I tested the amperage being drawn from the blinkers and it's around 6-8 amps per flash, both sides. That seems incredibly high to me. I ran it by my shop teacher and he looked at my like I was nuts. It doesn't seem to be hurting anything, but it just catches my attention every so often. Any ideas? Thanks in advance...
  5. Every NAPA store I've ever been to have been wonderful with helping me out, cross referencing parts, and coming out to my truck to see what hoses and such can be made to fit if they don't have the correct replacement in stock. Only gripe I have with them is that here they all close at 6:00.
  6. Let's see here, bought my first Pathfinder in May of 2008, was wrecked in July of 2009. Purchased my second Pathfinder in August of 2009 and still have it.
  7. Possibly, or rounded out teeth on the flywheel and it's slipping. You're not referring to the clatter of a dead battery are you? If so your hold in winding in the solenoid is weak and not holding the plunger in and keeping the flywheel engaged, so it pops back out and the pull in winding sucks in back in again and so forth.
  8. I think there's only 3 screws holding it in though, 2 on top and 1 on the bottom, so only one position will work. At least the TBI ones are 3 screws, maybe they went to a 4 screw set up with the MPFIs.
  9. From what I understand, the VG30E Maxima engine has the same core (bottom end and heads), but everything else such as electronics and injection system, etc are different to work with a front wheel drive application.
  10. Tungsten, did you talk to Summit at all?
  11. Exactly. Sometimes it's possible to make your own (or have it made) and end up spending less money than a full on bumper and guard from a manufacturer, and plus it'll be custom. The little eye guards we have that stem off the main piece don't do much for any kind of a heavy impact. They will bend and do more damage in most cases when hit on something solid. The only real part of ours that are worth a damn is the middle piece, but how often do you plow things head on? Well, unless you plow a Prius, but that's not the point...
  12. Yes I did get rear ended at 45-45mph and plowed into the vehicle ahead of me. As you can see from my thread, little was done to the front of my rig.
  13. I got lucky and it did throw a code, surprisingly...
  14. Oh man, I had this ECU Coolant Temp Sensor go out on me on my old '87... it played tricks on me for months, randomly acting up and disabling the rig then clearing right up as if nothing happened. Then wham, one extremely cold day it completely went haywire and dumped a half a tank of gas through my engine in 14 miles. I think the sensor was giving 120 ohms of resistance when it got to the shop that tested it. It killed my cat and the thing was barely running, if it ever did start while the sensor was malfunctioning. It was the cause of quite a few tows, so many that the tow truck driver knew my name and rig.
  15. I think you'd have to find one determined and pissed off rock to take out one of those things...
  16. If you want to blow smoke, just clog the air filter or mess with the fuel mapping so it dumps way too much fuel in. Cutting the air flow is much simpler and cheaper.
  17. I can see this being useful for desert runners who are constantly plowing through the sand at high speeds and RPMs, and heavy towing and long mountain grades like GG said. Pretty worthless for the typical driver though...
  18. Sounds like a poor paint job to me. There's a few sets of factor mud flaps floating around here in the for sale section.
  19. I've been dealing with no brights on my rig too. No brights at all, but good low beams. Voltage on both low and high beams, but high beams are not at their full potential and no now power up. You are correct, there are no relays in the headlight system, just the stalk on the column. On the socket for the lights, the middle is the low beam, the one of the left (I think) is the high beam, and the right is the ground. That could be backwards. I also read somewhere about a crossover wire that connects the two headlights together somehow, but I don't remember what it's for or if it's even factory.
  20. Is there somewhere you can take it to that can remove some of the coating on the pipes, just enough to weld?
  21. Well we've JB Welded the exhaust manifolds on our old '73 Winnebago motorhome with the 413, and the manifolds on my dad's old '84 S-10...
  22. Rebuilds aren't cheap. If you can find a good working used transmission then I would definitely go with that. If you want to prolong the life of the new transmission , rebuilt or used, then I would stick with only high quality fluids. It might cost a little more at the change intervals but it will make it last a lot longer and save you the money of another rebuild or another transmission in the long rum.

    Waterpump.

If the seals aren't leaking, it would be best not to touch them. Of course if you find they are leaking while you're replacing the belt and water pump, then you really should replace them while you're in there. There's quite a few write ups in "the garage" section with very detailed steps. Some people can have it done in about 4 hours; others about 10 days.
  24. In my Diesel Tech class we're going to be swapping a John Deere diesel motor in to either a Pathfinder or a little Datsun 720. The John Deere puts out about 55hp and like 130ft/lbs of torque and we should easily be able to get 50 mpg out of it. X2 on what Morningwould said about the Cummins 4BT.
