  1. fabrication is what i do. welding an all.
  2. so heres the plan. i cant get the old z24 engine in my pathy to run, drive, pass emmisions. zip zilch. every mechanic ive taken it to is clueless. so ima gonna yank it out and monster modify it. heres what im wondering. has anyone ever mated up the tranny in an 86 pathy to a domestic small block engine? im going to cram the biggest engine i can possible get in there into this pathy. itll be my frankenstein project. any tips or links to lead me in the right direction will be appreciated.
  3. been a number of times, back when i was in WY, me and my cousin would be out, 50 miles from anyone but antelope and jackrabbits, beer was a good thing. the high desert really sucks the moisture out of you. but i dont recomend drinking at high elevation. wew! but i agree, 1st gear creepin with brew is good times. as long as your not totally retarded. i have seen people, in situations, who should drive even sober. especially since the itroduction of cell phones and now text messaging.
  4. lighter fluid? hmm, never did that one, starting fluid, yea, that was cool, tire bounced 50 ft into the air . was neatest trick i ever saw, next to the grease in the pilot bushing trick that is.
  5. was it just the noise that led you to believe it was bad injector or was there performance issues as well?
  6. it should , its all new info i havent come across elsewhere. thanks
  7. its got a new tps but i think it needs adjusted , as for the fuel pressure reg, how do you tell if it is stuck open? havent thought about either of these things.
  8. mine is a cheap early one with a 4 cylinder lol.
  9. how would i check any of these things? been a while i know since you posted this but i can never find the posts i have put up.
  10. nah, my father in law has been researching my truck , looking at the library in mitchell manuals for clues to get my truck running and asked me if i knew wich it was, as of now i still have no idea, or how it pertains to the problems with my truck. but it would be nice to know wich I have.
  11. how do ya know witch ya got? trying to get some detailed info on my truck but im trying to figure out wich it is of the three letter combos.
  12. i could teach a monkey to tig and mig weld, stick can be very difficult depending on position and direction of travel, vertical up is hard. but you want real hard try welding something with a heavy magnetic field in it.
  13. yall got just about everything. so where in tha hell you gonna sit in the truck with all that stuff?
  14. either way youll want the tranny bolted to the new engine before instal, easier to put in as a unit.
  15. what exactly happens when you unplug your o2 sensor, i unplugged mine once because of idle issues, hasnt ran right since, i replaced it, my cat, my maf , checked and double checked timing checked and rechecked all vacuum lines even as far as pulling them all off and plugging them and blowing through them to see if there were any leaks, nothing. pulled my throttle body off, cleaned and put new gaskets on it. pulled the egr valve off and checked to see if it or the tubes were carboned up. checked compression, checked injectors, unplugging one and let it run , then switch to the other. but it all goes back to unplugging my o2 sensor that one time. mine has no power, idles great, revs great, wont accelerate. spits and sputters like only firing on half the engine. getting spark through all wires. dont know if it is strong enough spark though, not sure what it should look like. anyone out there with the z24i? im wondering if distributor is in right. the plug for the crank sensor is in front, facing the radiator, wondering if it is supposed to be facing firewall. seems to make more sense the way the wiring runs for it to face the other way. also, how much slop is acceptable in the dizzy drive gear, have a bout a 1/4 inch of wiggle in mine. i could really use a miracle here.
  16. offroading? or strictly 4 wheeling? there is a diffrence. i started taking my "cars offroad" when i lived in texas and the parties were always out in the middle of some field, on top of a steep ass hill, or down a trail by some lakes. first took my very first car, a 73 datsun 260 z out in the dirt. amazing what i could climb in that car, then i discovered how well front wheel drive cars did in the dirt climbing. all started there. my daughter has been off road fanatic since she was 2yrs old when we were living in wyoming. shes all about faster daddy faster hahaha. its more than just a sport i say, its a lifestyle.
  17. hahaha, no way, talk about dumb luck. i wish i had some of that right now. hopefully the new MAF sensor arriving tomarrow straightens out my rig. im totally out of ideas, and time, and luck. its a battle daily to keep convincing my wife thats its not time to junk it yet
  18. yea they are c channels. only imports are built the right way as far as frames go. my 87 sammy had a boxed frame too, the entire body, all but the hood and doors was rusted to nothing, but the frame was tip top. miss that turd.
  19. the point is they are welding mild steel, to tempered, heat treated steel. it will break. ive seen it a dozen times, on a bigger scale though, used to do that to dump trucks but with 12 inch channel, but that being said, that isnt worth the money, or the time they claim it will take.
  20. who knows where to find the best price on mass air sensors for the 87 z24i? i think mine is bad. napa has them for 297 bucks remanufactured.
  21. i wouldnt recomend that, see, the original frame is tempered, heat treated, if you cut out what is left and put in regular steel , it will more than likely crack where the old meets the new. plating over and boxing in the bad areas is better. the tempered frame that is left behind will allow the frame to still twist and flex like it is supposed to.
  22. take it to D&M welding in dayton , theyll be a much better price, theyll fix anything, i used to work there fixing stuff just like your rusted frame. 937 293 4189, ask for Brian. tell them travis reffered you to them.
  23. is there anything you need to splice to use one from an automatic? or is it just plug and play?
  24. yea, thats depressing. dont do that
