  1. Ok, so I changed my driver's side rocker arms and rocker arm shafts. My noise did get better but it is not gone. Before I replaced them 4 of the 6 moved side to side. With the brand new OEM rockers and shafts, one still had play in it. My noise is better, but it is NOT gone. I am getting a bit frustrated and weighing my options right now...
  2. I would assume it is recommended to replace the rockers that are on that shaft as well, not just the shaft.
  3. Then that would be a matter of replacing the rocker arm shafts? Those come with the rocker arms on them? Just the noise of you wiggling them sounds a lot like my noise, just less extreme. I guess I know what I am doing soon...
  4. Sorry for the long post ahead of time.... It definitely sounds like it is coming from the top. It definitely sounded like it was coming from the driver's side so I replaced the driver's side lifters (brand new from Nissan dealership) and the sound didn't change at all. None of the old lifters that I took out were collapsed or even compressable by hand. It doesn't really go away when you rev it, just harder to hear over the engine. Like I mentioned before, the only time it actually goes away is during engine braking. The only thing I can think that changes during engine braking vs idle or accelerating is vacuum increases. Engine has 232,xxx miles, new OEM driver's side lifters, new pcv valve, doens't burn or leak a drop of oil. I am at a loss at this point. I guess it wouldn't be too dificult to check the passenger side lifters. It sounds like either driver's side or middle of engine. I guess its time to get the stethescope out again. If I remember correctly, with the stethescope it was more pronounced on the drivers side VC, head, and exhaust mani. Very hard to exactly pinpoint it again.

  6. No need to man up when I could/did wait till today when it is 38 degrees...
  7. I'm pretty sure the Hummer H3 has the same lug pattern as us too, No clue about the center bore, offset or anything light that though. And I personally am not a fan of them, but could probably make them work if you wanted to.
  8. I will try to make a video when I get a chance, it is 15 degrees outside right now...
  9. I have definitely thought about that but it sounds VERY metalic.
  10. Yeah pretty much, I don't know about REALLY high RPM's, rarely get that high, but I can definitely hear it when I am driving, just cruising. It is worse when idleing or at a steady RPM though.
  11. I can hear mine just about any speed, my tach doesn't work so I don't know my rpm's but its always there, like if I am cruising in 5th (5-speed manual) at 40-45 I can hear it, if I accelerate, I can hear it, but if I am cruising at that speed and let off the gas, while still in gear, it goes away.
  12. So I'm going to bring this thread back... My ticking is just too annoying. After talking to multiple people (techs, engine builder) the diagosis was that it was the driver's side lifters. I replaced the driver's side lifters with new ones from Nissan. No change whatsoever. It is concistent with engine speed, does not change when engine is warmed up. I did notice last night that the ticking goes away when slowing down in gear, engine braking. I was wondering if that info helps anyone come up with any other ideas.
  13. I was actually at HF yesterday, only because it was down the street from the Hobby Shop I went to... I was eyeballing that same winch pretty hard but I have learned, and I question EVERYTHING sold at HF. Hearing that it is made by Smittybuilt makes me feel a bit better about it and may have to venture back there one day soon.
  14. Put my steering column back together (plastic covers), cleaned out all (most) of the junk, and drove it to work.
  15. I'm not going to worry about it. I think that is the least of my problems right now...
  16. ^^^^^ Would that cause a lifter type nosie? When I pulled my VC off (to do lifters) I did notice there was a clean spot where it looked like the cam lobes where hitting the lifter guide... This noise is driving me nuts.
  17. How much "reworking" did that Trail Gear bumper require? I like the look of that. I am planning on making my own bumper but if its not too crazy to make it work, that is another option. I'm still not sold on the stinger look though, maybe...
  18. What doesn't make sense to me, is that the actual fuel gauge was still reading correctly. The light went off and has stayed off since so I am going to push it to the back of my mind
  19. I agree with the stethescope too. I love mine. I had/have a terrible ticking as well. I (used to be a tech), along with the 3 current techs I talked to traced it down to driver's side lifters. Being cheap, I replaced just the driver's side last Friday, absolutely no change whatsoever. I took it to a machine shop the builds heads and engines etc... and after listening to it, he said it is definitely lifter noise, and he said driver's side... NOW WHAT??? He told me to run a thicker oil, w/ a qt of trans fluid... First I am going to check oil pressure with a mechanical gauge, not having proper oil pressure can cause lifter noise (lack of pressure) if I'm not mistaken. I have 232,xxx miles on mine, would love to keep going with it.
  20. So there isn't much wiring issues with swapping to the VG33?
  21. Great write-up man, loving all the pictures too. I am in the process of contemplating what I want to do with my truck, not a good noise coming from the engine (very loud ticking all the time). This swap has crossed my mind many times, and it is great to see someone doing a great, detailed write-up on it. Keep up the great work.
  22. Pathfinder looks great!!! i've never seen mine even close to that clean LOL
  23. I might have to do that Tungsten, thank you. Though last night on my way home from work and everywhere I drove yesterday, the light was off. And it was off this morning as well...
