  1. Alright.... so i should probably get this fixed as soon as possible.... should i rip up my carpet? and see what i'm dealing with? or should i just kinda cut around where i'm going to put the cookie sheets? What are the steps to installing the new cookie sheet floor? -Should i double up on cookie sheets? or use one of the two layer ones? -Where do the hot pads go? -Do i just silicone it to the floor? -Do i put the cookie sheet on top? Thanks everybody!!
  2. Well, i know i've come across at least one thread mentioning this... quite a long time ago, but i can't find it!. About 7 months ago, on a hot summer day, i was driving on the highway, and my floor started smoking like CRAZY! i immediately pulled over, stomped my floor, and waited for my car to cool down a bit. That was the last problem i had with a burning floor until today. Wanted to do a final test run to make sure the pathy wont die anymore. (Finally! replaced the distributer... and VOILA!) anyway... i was on the highway for about 10 minutes, and it was pretty hot in CO today... it started smoking again. and burned right through my new nice rubber floor mats. I didn't really feel like turning around, and going home, because i was picking up something from a guy off craigslist (an awesome pushbar, that i'll have a thread posted about too) although, headin home probably would have been best. I remember reading about heatshields being installed? or... something of the sort? i'm not sure what the burning was from, but it was pretty bad, it started early, and even after letting the pathy rest for an hour and a half or so, it started burning, and smoking right away. This picture is way worse than i realized... it has the burn with a bit of water poured on it... cuz it was still smoking after sitting while it was parked at home for forever. Well... it burnt through alot of... floor mats. i was trying to keep my nicer floormat okay... but my older junky ones got destroyed, as well as messing up my rubber mats... Should i install some kind of kevlar or teflon heat shield as a temporary fix? What have you done? pretty much every older pathy i've seen, has the burnt holy part on the driver side floor.
  3. Yup! Love the two tone black/Silver ones!!.... MMMMMMMM Oh, and when she wears a coat of mud, looks great... just like all the other pathys!
  4. I say... do some good ole' TPing.... be the bigger man... dont mess up his car, but give him a hell of a mess to clean up! I guess thats the highschooler in me... although... i do hate when people mess with my pathy... I used to have to park by the "Smoker Pit" and after school there would be kids sitting on my roof smoking, or slappin around my cb antenna they unscrewed! I had cigarette butts all over the place, it wasn't enough they would sit on my car, and jack with my antenna, but they felt it necessary to stick butts in my hood vents, and through my sunroof... i was pissed!! I also had a ton of scratches on the sides from them leaning on it with their damn belts, and goth chains rubbin up against it.... I got in the faces of a couple of the little freshmen who i always caught. Its funny how easily freshman become scared... They don't touch my pathy anymore
  5. It really does! giving a guy a ride home from work today actually, he was like, "Damn, this things got some balls" when i had to turn onto a busy street. made me feel good! haha
  6. Alright, thanks guys! i'll check the other connections tomorrow, it has been running very good and i've had no problems since i replaced the plug wires. I've done quite a bit of driving, short, long, hot cold, and the pathy seems to be doing great once again! Thanks for all the help guys!
  7. I replaced the plug wires today, and my friends dad was telling me it was happening with his tahoe, because he had corrosive buildup around some of his wires coming off of the battery, i had quite a bit in a few places, and i had already bought a can of battery corrosion cleaner/spray stuff... so i cleaned those all off after replacing the plug wires. I drove alot today, and nothing happened... but it is completely random when it dies, so we'll see if that fixed the problem! if not, i'll be replacing the coil and dis. cap.. thanks for all of the help guys!
  8. ...... wasn't the issue... i'm about to cry. Thought the car was doing okay, but it died on me again about a week ago, took it into the shop to see if they could figure it out... but nope. After they drove it 100 miles it died on them once, and they don't know what to do... I was told to just drive it until it dies more consistently. on my way to lunch about 2 miles away from the shop the damn thing died on me again. What am i supposed to do?? just keep driving the car, hoping it wont die, and leave me stranded??? Not very comforting.... What do you guys think?
  9. Yeah, i actually did the fuel filter and plugs today. Easy job.... simply took off the fuel filter, popped off the bottom hose, put my finger over the hole, pulled off the top hose and turned it facing up.... had my poppa plug in the new one.... probably took less than a minute.
  10. Okay, i think everything should be okay.... Replaced the plugs. they were all pretty nasty and burnt looking, idk if that means anything, but i put some new bosch platinums. I also replaced the fuel filter.. just cuz. When i first started this morning, one of the wires going into the distributor cap wasn't even on, it was kinda just sitting there, male inside the female, but nothing attached or "clicked" into place... it was just there (not one from the spark plugs, but the 7th one, that leads out) I'm hoping that was the problem, but only time will tell. I've driven a bit since everything has been replaced and it seems to run and idle better than it has before. So regardless of this fixing the problem or not.... ive got new plugs and a new fuel filter! If it starts doing it again, i'll come back to the drawing boards!
  11. I'm troubleshooting basically the same problem.. i'll let you know what i find out!
  12. Damn thing died again on me yesterday, and it was warm... i was beginning to think it was only happening when it was cold, but for the first time, it just died when i was driving down the street... and it was 65 or 70 out! I couldn't get it started this time either, so i had to walk... after a couple hours i got it started. -when i was turning the key and the starter was going, nothing was turning over or making any sounds at all, and it smelled kinda like a lawn mower/gas? so i'm not sure... its the weekend though, so i'll be having a look at it, and hopefully getting something accomplished. I'll let you all know! thanks for all the help guys!
  13. before when nothing was ever really wrong with the car, if it had rained all night, or had a real wet snow, starting the pathy in the morning would take a little bit of time. pumping the gas, and holding the key til it would finally turn over and start, and i'd then have to let it warm up before it would drive without dying... but it wasn't a big deal.. and i'd know it was coming. Today though, with the wet, it seemed to to die extra... (in comparison to what its been doing) i'll definitely do a full wire check when i open up the hood this weekend... Colorado is crazy! 80 degrees yesterday, i was in shorts and flip flops... today its snowing, and it'll be snowing through til morning, but it'll be hot and sunny in the afternoon. probably be lookin at a really warm weekend too!
  14. ahhh!!! i'll definitely give that a look tomorrow. its pretty wet outside too... snowing as we speak, but not cold enough to stick... so its just kinda flooding all over the neighborhood.
  15. Sorry! ummmm, its an 87 manual with 185,XXX miles. Nope.. no sputter, it just is pretty much the same as me turning off the engine with the key. i was thinking fuel filter too... it just doesn't seem to be getting the fuel. and yeah, i don't have a clue of the age of that i'm thinking that i have no check engine light... at least at the moment, i haven't ever seen it turn on, my fuel, temp, and oil gauges don't work though, so thats the problem... i have the stuff to fix my instrument panel though, just haven't got around to it yet... my dad said he'll help me with it this weekend
  16. Once again, the wonderful pathy decides to be difficult... i feel kinda like a bad parent... my car keeps having things wrong with it... anyway... about 3 days, and 80 or so miles onto the pathy after all of the cooling issues were resolved, the pathfinder decides to start dying... alot! while idling... and once while driving. The engine just kinda turns off as if i were to turn the key. it usually starts right back up (except when it wont start at all... the starter just goes, but the engine doesnt make a sound, or try to turn over or anything), but it doesnt want to stay running, this has happened mostly today, and yesterday. So... where to start? I'm going to be replacing the spark plugs this weekend... but i really dont know what else to check or change? could it possibly be a fuel pump issue or something with the fuel line? I'm thinking since i haven't really done a full tune up on the pathy ever, that i'm going to do some maintenance and get some new stuff in it. Since i bought my pathfinder, the starter, radiator, one of the hoses for the radiator, the thermostat, the battery, and the tires have been replaced.... what else should i change to hopefully keep the pathy as reliable as it once was... Timing belt? Change my brake, and tranny fluids? (change the oil regularly, and have flushed the radiator twice) anything else? any ideas on what else to look for to hopefully fix the dying pathy problem? Thanks in advance everyone!
  17. meh... myspace. im in highschool, and have had one since freshman year... rarely use it but to keep in contact with friends who aren't close anymore... plus, i like putting up sweet pics of the pathy! www.myspace.com/drummadude
  18. Glad to see pretty much everybody is a Firefox user. I'm not too big on Internet Explorer...
  19. im not conceited! .... haha, parked on a snowbank at school
  20. Problem seems to be solved! took out the T-stat, and investigated a bit... found that it was installed correctly, but the gasket maker stuff, filled the bubbler and plugged the hole, not letting the little metal piece move at all! cleaned it off, and had to go to checker to get some stuff anyway, so i told them what happened and they gave me a new t-stat! I closed everything off without the t-stat, and it all seems to be working pretty good! i had to drive quite a bit yesterday, so i'm thinking that was the problem.
  21. Temp gauge is busted... Never once. 50/50 coolant and h2o Its not new, but it came with the radiator when i bought it new. i know it has a good seal though it didn't boil over... but it was really hot, definitely was boiling when i opened the cap and it then spit all over me... yeah... its never stalled on me ever!, and its a manual... i'm pretty sure i have the t-stat installed correctly, my dad is making me take it out and check though. how should it be installed?
  22. So i was recently dealing with my old busted radiator not working correctly. Replaced the T-stat, and the radiator as well as the lower hose. I've been driving the pathy for the last three days with nothing being wrong with the radiator or the engine.... no overheating or anything was wrong at all. Today though, i drove to walmart, which is 1.1 miles from my house. i parked the car, went in and bought my loaf of french bread, and then came back out. I started the car and it died after idling for about 5 seconds. I popped the hood and immediately felt the heat coming off of the radiator, but not from the engine. Opened up the cap off of the radiator and coolant shot out (duh) -How could it have got so hot after driving hardly a mile, and browsing around walmart for so long, and then coming out to leave? After trying to start it a few more times, i got it running, and drove home as quick as i could. about .8 miles from my house (i work right next to the walmart, so i know exactly how far away it is) the car died again. I pulled over, and tried starting it again... it took a couple more tries and i got it started, and i got home. Got out, and the radiator was steaming from the coolant that had dripped down it when i opened it a little while ago. Opened the hood again, and the radiator was very hot, but the engine again, was not. (Not as hot as it is when it overheats... my temp. gauge doesn't work, but i could tell that the engine wasn't overheating) -The Radiator is bran new... could i have got a bad radiator? -It didn't sound like i was getting fuel when it wouldn't start, could that be a possible problem? -I did a quick flush of just the radiator with water after i put it in, but haven't flushed the whole system yet. ( i did however flush everything when i was trying to fix my old radiator) so i didn't think i would need to flush everthing. Any ideas??? Thanks!
  23. Hey man, that bullbar is so damn sick, you know where i could get one? 88Pathoffroad has one too... whered you guys get them!!?
  24. Yeah, i called the other day.... if i remember correctly, they are wanting 260.00 for them.... seems a bit higher than others have spent, they are all i know of though! anybody else know where they are cheaper? or.... other ones that are of good quality but less $?
  25. Yup. i should have looked closer to begin with, i kinda noticed something was wrong and was afraid for the worst... luckily, it was just the radiator, i put the new one in today, was reassured that the thermostat was in correctly, when talking to my dad about how they are supposed to go in (I had it correct all along!) And the new radiator is working great! no overheating, nothing leaking anywhere, and all for wayyyy less than a head gasket problem (total bill with thermostat, radiator, new coolant.... 175.00. And only a couple hours spent taking out and replacing the t-stat, and radiator. Fwewwww!! i'm glad to have the pathy back! i've missed 'er!
