  1. my skids are bolt on,which is what you need or else you will have trouble doing maintenance.Moine were from "Black Panther"; I'm not sure if he's still in buisness, but the skids are great. I can't tell you if keeping the same width but changing height of tires will avoid rubbing problem, but I would doubt that you/ll get away with out some trimming
  2. When I started to mod my Pathy I went to 4wheelparts to get Trailmaster lift. Although they carry Trailmaster the manager said that they had so many problems w /trailmaster lifts that he advised me to go elsewhere and get from a different lift from another store. It was pretty impressive to me that he would rather lose the buisness then have to deal with the Trailmaster. I eventually went to local lift shop and got Calmini 3" suspension lift, which I am happy with. I have 32x11.5 " GY MTRs and I had to do a bit of fender trimming to stop the rubbing; be prepared to do quite a bit more for 33s with a 3 or 4" lift I really like my ARB lockers and they do make quite a bit of traction difference. On the other hand, I have to agree w/ Skrilla, until I got full skid plate protection for my undercarriage I would break something nearly everytime I went out. The deciding moment was when I tore a slow leak in my tranny pan and had to transfuse ATM fluid every 50 miles until I got home [200 miles]. I tore it 25 miles off road in Death Valley backcountry and had the tear been a little bigger I would have became a permenant resident there. Good luck. -- glenn
  3. I looked up N.H. state motor vehicle code[available to anyone ]on internet: TITLE XXI MOTOR VEHICLES CHAPTER 266 EQUIPMENT OF VEHICLES Lights, Signals, Flashers, Reflectors and Flags Section 266:37 266:37 Spot Lamps and Auxiliary Lamps. – I. Any motor vehicle may be equipped with not to exceed 2 spot lamps and every lighted spot lamp shall be so aimed and used that no part of the high intensity portion of the beam will strike the windshield, or any windows, mirror, or occupant of another vehicle in use, except that a spot lamp may be used by a police officer to illuminate the interior of a vehicle being stopped from the rear. II. Any motor vehicle may be equipped with not to exceed 3 auxiliary driving lamps mounted on the front at a height not less than 12 inches nor more than 42 inches above the level surface upon which the vehicle stands, with such measurements to be made from the ground to the center of the lens, except that vehicles while used in the winter maintenance of ways may be driven with auxiliary head lamps higher than 42 inches above the surface upon which the vehicle stands provided such head lamps shall be aimed so that the top of the beam of light produced by these head lamps does not exceed the height of a horizontal line which is 42 inches high at a distance of 75 feet ahead of the head lamps of said vehicle. III. Every spot lamp and auxiliary driving lamp shall be approved by the director. Source. 1947, 82:1. 1949, 46:1. RSA 263:14. 1979, 203:2. 1981, 146:1, eff. Jan. 1, 1982. You're cooked . Get over it.
  4. I have a wd 21 [1990] and like it a lot; there's many things you can do to it to make it even more off road worthy then stock. It's larger then an X-- glenn
  5. If you're looking for something ready to go consider Calmini lift
  6. I was looking at RS9000 vs Procomp MX6. I have Calmini lift with their control arms. When I called them for specs they mentioned that you shouldn't go with a shock that has a body over 2" wide because it might impinge on upper control arm. When I measured for RS9000 at 23/4 " it seems like it would be VERY tight. What do you all think ? -- glenn
  7. You can't know what, if any, damage was also done to insulation to surrounding wires by guessing. The only way to avoid a real BIG proble'm[ like setting your truck on fire and dieing]is to start at one end and trace the entire harness untill you see where the damage ends. Even then its possible that the insulation might look good at some point and then have also melted somewhere further down the harness. It is going to be very labor intensive PITA but anything less is a dangerous risk. Sorry man. Good luck. - glenn
  8. I like 4wheelparts; they're generally knowledgeable.THey definitely want to sell you stuff but seem to have a healthy respect for corporate liability[afraid of being sued]; they're not that creative and will stick to their catalogue line but you get the straight story
  9. It probably needs a few thousand $ to get it in shape. Timing belt failure is a very good thought -if it is then the entire engine is probably shot and not salvagable
  10. I doubt the whistle will scare away anything, but they're good to have on you as it's easier to hear a whistle then a person yelling "help". Gun laws vary considerbly from state to state and if you get stopped you could have A LOT of trouble depending on where you are. Besides, unless you are VERY familiar with firearm maintenance and safety you are more likely then not to end up hurting yourself. I wouldn't bring one.Timing belt ? well I agree it should have been replaced around 70-80 K miles and if not you better do it before you leave. If you can't verify from a shop where it was supposedly done ,you could try asking a trusted mechanic for an evaluation of the one that's in there now.
  11. You've received excellent advice;I would do EVERYTHING that has been mentioned. I think you have to realize that you may be on your own without other cars/ towns nearby for help for substantial parts of your trip. I beleive that after self sufficiency the paradigm should be survivablity. In that, I mean being able to survive, stranded, for at least 1 week with sufficient food ,water and clothing - until you can be found by a SAR team. You should establish a call in schedule with someone in your family, probably around ETA to various towns along your route. If you are over due they could alert authorities that you may be in trouble. Chances are you will have a great trip without problem but as they say "hope for the best and plan for the worst" Good luck !! -- glenn
  12. I know shocks have been covered extensively, and yes, I used the search function.Does anyone have experience with these ? One of my Calmini shocks died[tore the ring off the body] and I figured this was a good time to upgrade. THANKS ! -- glenn
  13. "Great way to put it. "Beer and Pizza" Taking the replies from the other members into account, Im looking at maybe the 2" body lift off 4x4parts.com and the 3" Calmini lift kit. Do have any idea as to how much clearence that would give me for tires? (largest possible tire) " I have 3 " suspension lift only, w/ 32x11.5 tires ,and had to do some minor fender trimming w/a grinder. Like Slick said, backspacing and width of tires will also effect fender clearance. Some members here 3" in SL lift w/ 3" body lift and have fit 33s w/trimming - glenn
  14. Also, if you want a SUSPENSION lift check out the Calmini kit.
  15. well, I would take a REALLY good look at the vehicle[or pay a good mechanic to check it for you] and try and figure out what else needs to be done.If $5400 gets you a good running 4x4 truck then it's probably worth it. I do think at $5400 you're probably at what a good functioning '95 Pathy is worth, so I wouldn't spend anymore. If you sold it ,and tried to buy another, you would likely still have to put additional money to get any other truck running well also. You would find yourself at about the same total cost. Just my $0.02.--Good Luck ! - glenn
  16. "I bought my truck for 600.00 thou " $ 600,000 seems a little pricey, even for a Pathfinder !
  17. If you pay someone to do the work I'd be surprised if it came in much under $2000
  18. One of the nicest R50 Pathfinders belongs to xplorx4, who is a member here; he also has a web site: http://www.xplorx4.com/
  19. I just got a pair of off brand HIDs from Kragen for $110 each; they a very bright and seem to work well.
  20. Depends on the state; in California, I don't know anyone who was stopped for this.
  21. The guy who slid into you is technically 100% liable. If you sued him you would likely win AND lose your friend and probably never get anyone to go wheeling with you ever again. If he was a standup guy he would offer to take care of it all,if he offered and you were a standup guy you would say no thanks or at least split it with him. Since he didn't even offer ,it tells you everything you need to know. I would never go wheeling with that guy again [ but I wouldn't pursue it any further either].
  22. try 4wheelparts.com;they periodically run sales. Also, Calmini sells Mile Marker. good luck ! - glenn
  23. I think Slick gave you great advice; some other thoughts : do you have a locker on this truck?if LSD, is it working properly? are there oversized tires[>31 "] that could be rubbing ?don't forget to check steering linkage and also to lube steering stops. Good luck ! -- glenn

    Brake problem

sounds like it could be a failing master cylinder; if this is correct you could completely loose braking without warning[and maybe die]; brakes are nothing to fool with, if these other suggestions don't fix it immediately then TAKE IT IN TO A RELIABLE SHOP
