Mine uses "194 wedge" bulbs. Cheap, and you can usually get colored ones at the local shops, ebay, etc.
-
Congrats on the free repairs! No you have to go buy a sticker.

I tried LED's, but they looked funny because they projected light straight out, so there were spots of bright light next to dull areas between bulbs. But, I've seen bulbs out there that advertise difused light going out to the sides as well. Haven't tried them, though. The bulbs in my dash had blue plastic covers over them to change the color, but it seemed to make them dim too. I replaced them with blue colored bulbs and its nice and bright, with a blue tint. Maybe you could get more light by just pulling the covers off the bulbs?

I'm betting 88 would recommend Thorley's, huh?

Geeze, 80's and 90's would be a nice change. But, its been flirting with the 70's and even 80's for a day in the Seattle area lately. Supposed to be in the 70's for the next week, guess we'll take it. Have fun in the desert.

Body roll, wheel shimmy, poor ride quality...
Mr. Pickles replied to a topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
Guess I'll have to crawl under and see what you're talking about. I don't have a ball joint puller laying around, and I'm not exactly versed on suspension work. Maybe I'll be getting the shaft at a local shop on this one. -
Don't worry, I'm not knocking Jiffy Lube. Just saying that its not exactly a full service place with full-on mechanics generally. They do have a serious mark-up on prices though! The Pep Boys guys had issues. I remember they refused to change my brother's tires on his Mustang with the exact same size he had been running for 2 years (235/45 17). They said the computer told them they wouldn't fit, so that was that. I got to work the parts counter for a bit, and their solution was, if it wasn't in the computer, then they couldn't help. Period.

Changing the bulb out on the A/C - Heater control
Mr. Pickles replied to MatterHorn's topic in The Garage
That looks like a much nicer setup with the auto temp. Mine has the old sliding knob deals like on old trucks. The only push-button I get is A/C. Wonder if that could be converted, probably not though. -
Haven't heard of Land Terrain. Maybe they're similar as BFG Long Trail they sell around here, more like a "normal" truck/SUV tire. BFG doesn't show them on their website. I did a quick search, and from what it sounds like, they're something only available through Walmart/Sam's Club.

88, on the same note, you mentioned the center link on the front before. How hard is this? I live in a townhouse with no garage, so it would have to be a 1 day, general tool kinda project. Is this repair in that category? -
Would the "cracks" under the rear seat be the famous rust starting to peek through under there?
-
True that, the more stuff that's added, the more stuff there is to brake. Certain 4 wheel steering Hondas and just about anything Ford or GM comes to mind. sssh
-
Basically, yup. It was something to the effect that with an opened exaust but no intake, the air/fuel in the cylinder would rush out without enough to replace it. Oh well, I'm no physicist nor hot rodder. Just show me the way the cheap and easy horsepower!
-
I agree too, and I used to work there at the Puyallup, WA store! It was an in-between job while looking for a *real* one after college. The mechanics ranged from indifferent to just plain no knowledge. One guy even thought it was a step up when he was canned and went across the parking lot to work at Jiffy Lube!

Changing the bulb out on the A/C - Heater control
Mr. Pickles replied to MatterHorn's topic in The Garage
Me too. I know what you mean Matterhorn, it seems like its sealed in plastic. I had the thing completely tore down, and it just wouldn't open. I was thinking about trying to find one in a junkyard to practice on. I need to get in because I switched out all my dash lights to blue bulbs, but couldn't get into the heater/AC lights. Is anyone out there brave to try this? -
Very true, 88. Notice my avtar? That's why I stopped where I was in that hole. Mine breathes through the grill next to the driver's headlight.
-
I'd say be careful removing and re-installing the shifter. I did this on my old Mitsu pickup years ago in high school, and it had a sort of E-clip deal holding it on. Stupid-sunuva-mitsu-piece-of-*&^%$ design. I went back together well enough, then about 2 or 3 weeks later... suprise! It came apart... while driving down the road! :furious: Luckily (?) the engine promply blew apart (again) soon after, that thing was a rolling P.O.S. project.

I have polished American Racing wheels. They hold up just fine, you just need to do regular maintenance. Rub them with some aluminum polish at the same time you wax your truck (hopefully every 3-6 months!). They oxidize, but just polish them from time to time. Mine were dull from neglect of the previous owner, and they cleaned up fine with Mothers polish. Mine still look great.

Hey 88, mine mount from the ceiling on my 94. Did you just mean on pre-1990's? I just ran out and checked, since I didn't know since I've never ridden back there.

I've heard from mechanics and such, that to get any benefit out of an opened up exhaust, you HAVE to do the intake (K&N-type filter, etc.) as well. They said something to the effect of with exhaust work alone, it throws off the airflow in the cylinders and through the valves, and it may even lose some power. I just heard it again over the weekend. I just heard this again over the weekend on Popular Hot Rodding on Spike. Has anyone heard this/can they back it up? Just a thought, I have both done on my Pathy and it seemed to add quite a bit of punch over stock.
-
There are local shops (Bucky's in the S. Puget Sound area comes to mind) that will do a Flowmaster installed for under $100. Mine is 1 1/2 yrs old and awesome, good tone and punch with the K&N also.

I have BFG M/T's, and they do pretty good. They're a tad loud, but wear really well for mudders. They have about 40K miles on them, and still have about 1/4-1/3 of the tread left. They're great in the snow and sloppy stuff. The only gripe is they're not very good in the rain.

wheel vibration...last try before dealer visit
Mr. Pickles replied to a topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
Outside wear (if not too bad) could just be aggressive driving, or even normal wear since you're putting pressure while turning. That's why you need to regularly rotate them, to keep the wear even on all 4 and extend the overall tire life. -
Sounds like a CV shaft. Just had to replace one in our Camry a few months ago because it was doing the same. Did a little inspection, grabbed the outside boot, and nice- a hand full of dirty grease and floppy rubber. It was toast. Turn your wheels into a turn, and check the rubber boots on the shafts on both sides.

You would be ok running it through, just be careful with the volume. It really is easy to run the wiring though.
