  1. I was waiting for that ! I will get pics , she looks pretty good ! Still dirty , weather beaten , and more work to do but way better ! I will get pics.....
  2. Got the tires and wheels put on today , you weren't kidding.....
  3. Sorry to dredge up an older thread , but I want some of these metal hub spacers for my '96 XE with Pro Comp 51's , what is the correct size ?
  4. Not meaning to hijack , but this question kinda ties in to one I have . Has anyone ever noticed a slight flexing of the right rear body where the carrier mounts when swinging out the carrier with a tire mounted ?
  5. I'm no expert but I learned something after looking at my newly lifted '96 yesterday . I put 31's on the stock 15" XE wheels 50,000 miles ago with no lift . There was minimal rubbing at full lock , can't say exactly what was rubbing 'cause it happened so rarely I never bothered to look . Being that I'm no mechanic , I would look at AC's "warning" that to run 31's with the lift you'd need wheels with 3.75" backspacing and scratch my head thinking "I'm running them on stock suspension , why would I need new wheels with the lift ?" . Well , now I know.... With the stock wheels and coils the spring perch was in a position/angle that allowed it to sit just a bit to the inside of the inner sidewall having just enough room to clear the tire . Now , with the 2" coils and 1" strut spacer it appears that the spring perch location has moved to a position that would preclude running 31's , moving it to where it now sits just above the tread . My worn 31's barely clear the bottom of the spring perch , if they were new with full tread they'd be rubbing the perch at best , at worst it looks like you'd not even be able to mount the wheel/tire combo . I'm thinking that any stock Pathfinder wheel will fit , but with the lift you'll need spacers .
  6. Going to pick her up in an hour or so . Added a pair of outer tie rod ends when my mechanic friend got in there and found a little play . He says it will be an "interesting" ride until it gets a proper alignment.... Stopped at the local tire store yesterday and ordered 5 Cooper STT's , spoke with the manager and showed him the instructions from the camber alignment bolts , he knew right away what they'd be dealing with and said "no problem" . Tires should be in this week and on by the weekend .
  7. It has "about" 140,000 miles , I say about because it shows a bit over 138,000 but has had 31"s on it for the last 50,000 or so . I forgot to take a pic but I'll be back over there tonight and hopefully remember . I picked her up on 1/31/00 with 34,000 , someone had traded her in the day before on a new 2000 . Some have asked why I don't just go out and pick up another truck but they just don't understand....
  8. The day has come.... Dropping off old Beatup96 at my friends shop this morning ! AC 2" kit with KYB's and Bilstein's AC strut spacers Camber adjustment kit New CV shaft assemblies Mile Marker hubs Power Stop drilled rotors and pads New calipers Inner and outer bearings Valve cover + intake manifold gaskets Cat back from 1A Auto Fix the rear tire carrier latch that hasn't worked in 5 years... Probably some more parts in all those boxes I'm forgetting . Been accumulating parts since June while she sat pretty much useless due to a totally beat suspension , I'd start her up every few days and tell her I hadn't forgotten about her . You know you've owned a vehicle a long time when you talk to it as if it can hear you... Front end and steering all feel pretty good so I'm hoping there won't be any bad news and more $$$ on parts . Then it's off to the tire shop for new 32's on the new Rock Crawlers !
  9. I have the upper intake manifold gasket , is there a part number for the blowby hose ? Better yet , do you have it in stock along with the hoses and vacuum lines that Rebelord mentioned , and the OEM knock sensor ?
  10. I'm having my valve cover gaskets replaced , so we'll have the upper intake manifold off . What else is under there that I might consider replacing while things are apart ? 1996 3.3 with 140,000 miles .
  11. I'm not too concerned about it looking "bleh" , I'd actually be looking for something somewhat "bleh" . I've got a "bad wheel" of the human type , and the mud brown color with a few tan accents done in a non reflective finish might let me park a little closer to the goose pit....
  12. How many cans or gallons of that stuff would it take to do an entire R50 ?
  13. $3.89 for Mobil 87 in central CT , $3.75 for most other brands , one Mobil in particular is $4.15 for 87 . That one is right off of I91 and they prey on travelers . Bought an '01 Corolla a few months back for a DD while I do an "almost" total resto on the '96 Pathfinder , after driving the Pathfinder for 13 1/2 years it's a real kick getting 30 mpg city while flogging the Toyota . 39 mpg highway..... Now I won't feel bad when filling the '96 up after it gets it's 6" lift and tires , it will be the "fun rig" and I'll be happy about filling it up !
  14. Thanks for the info captandy . Funny thing , I've got the same boat seat . But the back of my truck hasn't looked that clean since about 2001....
  15. Looks good either way , but I like it a bit better with the flares . Questions on your lift as it's just the height I'm looking to attain . This the "normal" AC kit with their new front spacers and no rear spacers , giving it the level front to back look ? Did you use the camber adjustment kit and was there any problem with camber adjustment using the front spacers ? How is the on road handling compared to stock ?
  16. I'm in the ordering stage for my rebuild , and I've been wondering about that kit . Does each kit consist of two bolts for each side , or one bolt ? Will ordering two kits get me two bolts for each side ?
  17. I'll be starting to order parts for my 1996 XE in about a week , probably be asking a bunch of questions.... First question is on spacers . I'm going to skip a sub frame drop for now and go with an A/C 2" lift and 1" spacers . I'm looking for a balanced height front to rear , not the original "raked" look To get this am I looking at using just strut spacers ? If I also use coil spacers in the rear will the rear be higher than the front ? My '96 XE has the factory spare tire carrier and I'll be mounting a 31" spare , added to that I usually have at least 100lbs of stuff in the rear .
  18. I had a broken strut mount that made sounds like that .
  19. It's a 3.3 . The door sticker says it was built in June of 1996 if that helps any .
  20. Or parts numbers from other vendors ? I can't seem to find any that say they'll fit a 1996 .
  21. Can anyone give me parts numbers for these from Rockauto for a 1996 XE ? I want to buy a complete set and I'll be darned if I can't find them in their catalogue .
  22. Been lurking for a couple years now , trying to absorb all the info here..... My Pathfinder story began on 1/31/2000 , when I drove off in my "new to me" 1996 XE 4wd . Times were good , cash was flowin' , and I beat down the salesman on the price so bad that his manager offered me a job selling Nissans..... The good.... She had 34,000 on the odometer and had been bought new in '96 and traded in 4 years later on a new model . Since then she's been my daily driver , and I don't drive a whole lot . My job is close by and here in CT everything is within a few miles , she's just under 138,000 now . Engine and tranny seem real strong , never beat on either of them . I've changed an exhaust manifold , timing belt and water pump at 92,000 , new starter , distributor plugs and wires , MAF sensor (IIRC) and an O2 sensor . Starts up and idles great , runs well and hardly ever see's over 3000 rpm's . Everything except the A/C works and the interior is still great due to the covers and floor inserts she got right away . The bad..... Time for "new everything" , brakes , cat back exhaust , total suspension front and rear , axle shafts , etc... She's had the struts and shocks replaced once at about 80,000 and they're toasted , I put 31's on shortly after that and I doubt the extra weight helped any , rubbing is minimal and only at full lock . Have not (yet) been to the dealer for the check up on the strut tower (scary !) . The plan..... In the next few months I'll be in the position to pick up a new(er) daily driver , gotta get something with good MPG . My job requires me to get in regardless of weather , when the state closes the roads as they did for the blizzard last week I'm exempt . I must have a 4wd vehicle , plus the fact that I hunt a lot and it's way easier to just drive to the goose pit than lug all those decoys by hand . Cornfields get kinda mucky.... First will be getting her checked out for the recall , looks good to me and a few friends but we aren't Nissan techs . Fingers crossed and she makes it back home , I want to do the KRFABS 4" subframe drop with 2" coils , 33-35" wheels/tires , locking hubs , new exhaust , etc.... I'm not a mechanic and I'll just be buying parts , I have a great mechanic with a full shop who'll be doing the work for cheap money in comparison to having it done at regular shop rates . He's a "thinker" , but I'll be trying to make things as straight forward and simple as possible when I hand him a box of parts . Thats where I may be a potential PITA , asking for info on specifics I can't find with the search function..... So thats my story and I'm stickin' to it..... Great forum on a hard to find subject , thanks in advance !
