  1. Thanks for the OP and the pics of the tear down. I too have this same issue.
  2. Noticed my brakes getting a little spongy so looked at MC and noticed its oily. Seems to be coming from a small hole on the side between the brake lines. Is that a weep hole? Never saw one on a MC before. Anyway, the resevoir looked full, or so I thought. When I pulled the cap off it was more than half empty! What I was seeing on the res was the dirty residue stuck to the inside of the plastic. Cleaned out the res and refilled with the DOT3. That dirty res made me wonder about the clutch MC. It too was dirty but not low. Cleaned and refilled for good measure. Guess I'm gonna be replacing the MC soon.

    salt spray

I'm taking the pathfinder to the beach for a few days. Plan on driving on the beach and also will be parked near the beach. Is there anything I can do before I go to defend against the corrosive effects of the salt spray on engine or electrical systems? Is this even an issue?
  4. Last year for inspection I had to deal with emissions problems. Mine was both HC and NO too high. Changing out the H2O temp sensor, new plugs wires and cap & rotor, and new O2 sensor helped the HC numbers. But I had to put a new cat on before it would pass. I didn't have a maint history from PO so I just replaced what I could starting with cheapest part. The guys at the emissions inspection station were cool about it, tested 3 times before I resigned to buying new cat. Then it passed.
  5. new tires. Goodyear Wrangler 235-75-15. $89 ea includes mount and balance.
  6. where can this identifying number be found? I have an old Garmin I'd like to do this with.
  7. How do you ground the 3rd prong on the extension cord in the AC circuit? In your vehicle, ground is same as negative since the negative battery cable attaches to chassis. In an AC system ground is earth. Would you run a cable to a spike to drive into the ground? I see the inverter has a 3prong outlet. Just wondering how the AC side is grounded.
  8. Check it, NPORA Regular. I'm somebody now.
  9. no, not that there's anything wrong with that...
  10. The PO used to call the Pathfinder 'Blue Bomber'. My initial is B, so it's now B's Blue Bomber. BBB for short.
  11. Fixed a hole in the carpet. Before: I already removed the vinyl heelpad, which was cracked, and vacuumed the carpet. I took some carpet padding from under the back seat to stuff in the hole. Glue, lots of it. This stuff, good stuff After:
  12. then there is always Mike Rotch.
  13. here's a couple pics of the "Spill Master"
  14. I bought a 2-cup console thing from oreilly and it fit right in between the front of the stock console and the shifter boot. It's not same color plastic but it does the job.
  15. defroster works great, no dead wires
  16. I realize it's been over 3 months since my last oil change. An injury to my clutch foot has left me unable to drive the BlueBomber for the last 6 weeks. I did an oil change yesterday and here are a few observations. I've been pleased with the performance of the G-Oil I put in back in July. It quieted my noisy valve train and ,based on what came out the crankcase, did a good job cleaning the engine internals. I know, Iknow, these are purely subjective observations with no scientific data to back it up but I said I'd post up with an update so there you have it.
  17. Welcome, from the pic it looks like you could go wheeling right off your driveway.
  18. Welcome, I also received a Pathfinder for free. It needed some TLC to pass state inspection but it runs like a charm and hasn't left me stranded yet. We have a saying here, " don't look a gift horse in the mouth". So I don't mind when it needs TLC, I just remember how much I paid for it. $0
  19. 10 months. Got it in January this year with 320,000 on the odo and no service history. It's my daily driver. Hope to watch it roll past 500,000
  20. Funny you should ask. I started early this morning hoping to finish today by this afternoon. As soon as I got the top timing cover off I realized that wasn't going to happen. I ordered a kit assuming round tooth sprockets and it turns out I have square tooth sprockets. Also, after getting hands on the water pump I detected a little play in the shaft and the weep holes showed signs of leakage. So, I continued to remove parts, made a trip to the parts store for correct TB kit and WP, and prep for tomorrow. Installed the Tstat. Replaced the bypass hose. The bypass hose was a real bugger bear to get off, ending up cutting it in pieces. Putting the new replacement on was no picnic either. Hopefully I'll get everything back together tomorrow.
  21. FedEx delivered my Thanksgiving weekend project today. Timing belt, tensioner, thermostat, strut rod bushings. I'm thankful for everyone who has posted how-to's. It will make my project that much easier. Thanks!!
