  1. Thanks SS Is that in the how to's?
  2. I was going to do a tranny fluid change when I put in my trans cooler (just seemed to make sense). In looking at some of the posts and the EBSCO database there doesn't seem to be a way to change ALL the fluid at once (trans, torque converter, etc.), it's "drop the pan and let it drain". While checking out another repair database I found 2 threads that i thought were interesting. One noted to disconnect the fluid discharge line from the cooler, start the engine and essentially let the trans pump all the luid out, being careful to make sure you stop when the fluid diminishes. Second thread suggested taking a suction gun and plastic tubing, snaking it down through the dipstick tube and sucking all the fluid out. Any thought from the pro's?
  3. Online at Rock Auto. They have thm for about 17 bucks. I get TONS of parts through them, they have awesome prices. www.rockauto.com

    Oil Cooler

Would I have to add additional oil to the engine if i put in a cooler? Meaning it takes 4 quarts with a filter change, since I'm adding additional "space", will I need to put in more than 4 quarts to get it up to level?

    Oil Cooler

Just relocating the oil filter won't help cool the engine any. But, using the relocating kit you have 2 hoses coming out of the blank-off plate, 1 discharge, 1 return. These hoses run to the filter mount. If I take the return hose (back to the engine) and plumb in a cooler, THAT will help cool the oil. I was just curious about what to use. I'm using a B&M supercooler for the tranny cooler, I didn't know if I needed anything that big for the oil cooler.

    Oil Cooler

No, I'm already going to do the tranny cooler, I was going to use a kit to relocate the oil filter to the inner fender wall and thought I'd pipe in a cooler while I'm at it.

    Oil Cooler

Hey all, Was just curious about those of you that are running an oil cooler, which one are you using? My thought was to use the Summit #G4985 oil filter relocation kit the 88 suggested, thepipe the discharge from the filter block to a cooler, then back to the engine. I figured if I do it that way, I can use just about an old cooler I come across. Any thoughts or advice? Thanks

    MSD Help

Thunderbox and Snake, Thanks much for all your help guys. Got done wiring in the complete MSD system tonight. I hooked up the battery, held my breath and turned the key. It fired immediately and ran like a top! Couldn't have done it without you, thanks a million!
  9. Ok, I have a few dumb questions about putting in a tranny cooler. 1: Do you use the stock lines coming from the trans, and if so is there a way to determine which is out and which is in? 2: After putting in the cooler, do I have to add more than the spec'd amount of tranny fluid? 3: Mouniting. I plan to mount it between the radiator and the condenser, but want to have enough room to put an oil cooler in there as well. Should the cooler be centered so that it benefits from the fan, or is side by side mounting with an oil cooler OK. How about stacking the trans & oil cooler, any thoughts? Thanks.

    MSD Help

Thanks MUCHO people. I think I've got a good handle on it now, I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks again.

    MSD Help

Right. The stock coil is mounted on a bracket. Connected to the same bracket below and behind the coil is a small black square piece. It has a harness plug going into it with 4 or 5 wires, and 2 wires coming out that plug into the coil. So, if the is the amplifier it needs to stay and I need to use the 2 wires coming out of it (the ones that go to the coil) to connect to the MSD system, then to the blaster coil, correct? Sorry to be so dense, but this is my first real mod of a vehicle that didn't involve duct tape and bailing wire.

    MSD Help

After reading Wheelman's thread about his MSD install, I was pretty confident I could handle the job. I'm using an MSD6A box, a Blaster SS coil and the tach adapter. I've installed the box, hooked it up to the power supply and was ready to remove the coil and wire in the SS coil. Suddenly I'm not sure about the wiring situation. BTW, I have an '88 SE V6 Auto trans. Wheelman noted to cut the blue and black wires coming from the amplifier(?), attaching them to the white and red wires on the MSD box, then reattach the black and orange wires from the MSD to the blue and black wires going back into the coil. Well, the first problem is I'm not exactly sure what the amplifier is. Is it the little black box attached to the coil bracket? Next, if I'm not going to use the stock coil, do i need to leave the amplifier in line? Latly, my coil wire colors are different. Coming from what I assume is the amplifier I have a black and a green wire. Feeding what I assume is the amplifier is a blue w/Orange tracer, black w/white tracer, black w/purple tracer and a small white wire. :help: Thanks.
  13. I did exactly what Simon suggested. Bought a set of NEW Jeep Grand Cherokee coils ($47), a set of Rough Country UCA's ($169 shipped) and a set of Pro Comp ES9000 shocks set for a 2" lift ($159 WITH as steering stabilizer). So for under $400 and a bit of sweat, it seemed worth it to me.
  14. URL meaning they have to be somewhere else on the net, or is there a way to just post them in the body of the message?
  15. I hate to sound dense, but could someone point me in the direction of instructions of how to post pics along with my posts? Thanks.
  16. Does that apply to the front as well? My front bar is broken and if I don't have to replace it, that would be cool.
  17. What year Maxima did you use to get the alty?

Silly question, anyone ever changed that filter in the AIV box?
  19. Point well taken on the plugs, thanks guys. Any takers on the t-bars?
  20. Hey All, Well I've finally started getting all of my parts in for my build and I am majorly stoked!!! My bone stock 88 will not be bone stock much longer. Because of that, I have a couple of dumbass questions. #1 I ordered my uca's and am getting ready to do the front end. Is there a particular order in which I should do it (i.e: t-bars, uca's, tires, or the other way around) or does it matter. If I'm going to crank the t-bars for lift, do I need to re-index them first? #2 I'm putting in an MSD6 ignition with a Blaster SS coil and Taylor wires. Any opinions on lugs for that kind of set up? I've been reading the threads about Iridium vs. Platinum vs. V-power but can't really draw a great conclusion, so i wanted to find out what's worked best for you guys (and gals) And not to sound like I'm kissing too much butt, but you have all helped me a lot. I had no clue when I first thought about doing this, and now at least feel like I know enough to be dangerous. =) Thanks

    cam seals

Stanley Hook and Pick sect from Wal-Mart. It's about 8 bucks and they work awesome.
  22. I got a similar deal from 4Wheel Parts. 4 ES9000's plus an ECS2000 steering stabilizer for $159 with the boots. You have to buy the bracket for the stabilizer but I already had one that would work!
  23. I just wanted to thank you guys for all your excellent input. I know it's kind of tedious answering the same questions over and over, so i appreciate the effort, you've helped a lot.
  24. K, hate to open up an old wouldn but........ I'm getting ready to lift and redo my suspension and was wondering about shocks. I've read everything about sizing and what not, but I was just curious about choices. Currently I'm looking at; Rancho RS5000's Pro Comp ES3000's Pro Comp ES9000's Superlift's (No part #) Any opinions on one over the other? Thanks in advance
