I do have an R50. Is it worth it?....not positive yet. She responded very well around town, but I think I have to get over the 'babying' stage to really see if it was worth it.

  2. Nope, but sounds intriguing. I'd be much happier with a better physical barrier to prevent any sort of actuator movement, aka... a locking tab. That's probably just me being paranoid. No way it would ever be bumped open somehow.
  3. I ended up cutting my own gaskets when I replaced a cat on the R50. i used Mr. Gasket 5960 Ultra Seal Exhaust Gasket <http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BWAPHA> It's been a couple months and I haven't had any problems.
  4. An update: I'm in the process of replacing the exhaust starting with the cats. I've decided to go with Magnaflow, 2.25" out of the cats and a single 2.5" out of the muffler. My question is concerning the fit. Those who have replaced the cats with aftermarket, was an additional high temp gasket material cutout required to get a good seal between the stock exhaust manifold and the aftermarket catalytic converter? All I see is a metal ring gasket that doesn't look quite up to the task.
  5. Some very reasonable OBDII code readers are available online. I think this might be a great opportunity to grab one.
  6. $1000 for O2 sensor replacements is a huge ripoff. Rockauto.com has OEM direct fit O2 sensors for much less than $150 a pop. These come with factory connections, no splicing necessary. Which O2 sensor you planning on replacing?
  7. Intake Air Temp Sensor for the 98 R50 is a P0110. I'd start with removing the IAT sensor from the intake and resetting the code. If it comes back as P0505, troubleshoot the Idle Air Control.
  8. Heading to the pick n pull. Going to grab a LSD.

No dice! It looked like it had a sticker on it; but when tested, the opposite wheel rotated backward. Damn!

  9. I've been troubleshooting a P0420 these last couple weeks. So far I've cleaned the MAF, done a full tune up, checked for intake and exhaust leaks, and replaced the post cat O2 sensor. All no dice. My post cat O2 sensor voltage output hangs around 0.05V to 0.3V and doesn't track much with the upstream O2 sensor, regardless of how I run the engine. The upstream O2 sensor channel checks with the other one. Other ideas? So now I'm in the market for a new cat. A little research puts pricing anywhere from $50 to $600. Any advice or history of replacing the stock catalytic converter with an aftermarket? Is is a bad idea to only replace one of the two? What's a reliable brand that wont just end up giving me a different code? Any help would be great. Thanks.
  10. Hi. I live in the Ogden Area. I try to make it to Carolina Beach every week or two, schedule depending. You out there any?

  11. Nice haul! I'm working on NX4 spacers, RR sliders, and a pick n pull LSD.
  12. Nice Pathy! Go 32's definitely. You'll thank yourself later.
  13. +1 for the half shaft spacers!
  14. Thanks for the reply. I ended up returning mine to where I found it based on several people finding identical 'strainers/screens or whatever it's called' in their rigs. I think your right. It's purpose is to provide a torturous path for the blow by gases to flow and remove any remaining oil in the mix. Thanks!
  15. So far I've removed it. I doubt this item broke off during a cleaning sometime in the past, as there isn't much to clean. My thoughts are the previous owner put this in line to reduce the amount of non clean/cold air going to intake, or this is the last filter/mesh to catch any remaining oil, etc before being vacuumed into the throttle body. Thanks for the replies.
  16. Hello all. First post, long time lurker. I was doing some monthly maintenance today and came across what looks like a piece of wire brush fitted inside the line going from my crank vent manifold to the hose connected to my intake. The Pathy has 210K miles and I've owned her less than a year. I'm wondereing what purpose a restriction like that would serve, as it had to be deliberately placed.
