I own a 1991 Pathfinder. I literally saved her from the crusher in August 2009. I use it for work and play, averaging 50k kms a year. I've owned alot of different trucks over the years, new and old, and id have to say that this one is the best and most reliable truck I've ever owned.

  1. if your ac bogs the engine, then repairs are required. most likely the compressor going.
  2. Your alternator is weak. You need to replace it. I had the same prob till i changed it. mine would come on when i would draw more amps then the alt could produce. The trans temp sensor requires a minumim voltage to stay open and when that isn't received, it closes. Now could be a good time to upgrade.
  3. You need to research relay wiring. Grab the wiring diagrams for your truck and study them. We cant walk u through it because there is too much information for a forum discussion. once you fully understand those two things then you should be ok. If you need to ask questions, that's OK but ask specific questions during the install.
  4. At rockauto, regardless of year, they only sell 15 gallon tank replacements.
  5. Mine is 15 gallons. I ran mine down to see if the gauge is wrong. After walking to a gas station for a jerry can of gas, Ive learnt that E really means E. It doesnt go past and my fuel light doesnt work lol. With the 15 or 21 gal tanks, I dont know whether its the region that our trucks were sold in, the year or just the day of the week that it was built.
  6. 15 mpg city 19 mpg highway 235/75/15 4.36 ratio Although I have since added a K&N and removed the intake tubes that feed the airbox (frustrated while changing the lightbulbs) and i did notice an improvement in milage but havent checked since. I did get 70 kms more to a tank on the highway.
  7. is there any performance gains to the JDM engine? Are they the same cams and cylinder heads?
  8. Mine does the same type of thing sometimes. What Ive noticed is that if I remove my my MAF connection and reinstall it, the problem goes away. Im not saying that that is exactly what yours is doing but give it a shot. Mines a bad connection and it intermittently connects.
  9. Ive been interested in doing the Xterra Auto trans swap, when the time comes for a new tranny. I was wondering if anybody knows of any gains or problems with doing this swap. I did notice that the gearing is better for the first 2 gears but remain the same for 3rd and 4th. Are they stronger? Shift better? Also what is all involved in the swap? I read that you need to lengthen the harness. Do I get to keep my transfer case or do I need the xterra (output spline count)? Is the Xterra Tcase better?
  10. Mobil 1 5w30 and K&N oil filter. 320 000 and still humming along!
  11. just go to partsource or Napa. They sell them for under $100
  12. Did you replace the lifters with brand new ones or used? Also did you inspect your rockers for any sort of damage? Your looking for heavy pitting and excessive wear spots. A worn cam and rockers make the same noise. I would pull off the covers again and check for any sort of play on the rockers. Make sure you rotate the engine as your checking them with the valves in the closed postion. If all checks out good, then run a bottle of seafoam for about 10-40 miles of driving and change the oil again. Once you change the oil, hook up an oil pressure gauge and check the readings. Your oil pressure will always be higher when the engine is cold, so go by the numbers with your engine fully warm. The reason you want to run the seafoam before you check the oil pressure is because you dont want any crude in the passages giving you a false reading.
  13. I swear by synthetic. My entire driveline is synthetic. I got 320 000 km's and don't need to add anything between oil changes. I am an engine builder and the one thing i can say is that its a day and night difference when you tear down a high mileage engine that has used synthetic its entire life vs conventional oil. Dramically less wear and sludge. Yes, I will agree though. Switching to syn. on a tired high mileage motor doesn't always work out well.
  14. lol It's a Canadian thing
  15. Mobil 1 5W30 or Castrol Syntec 5W50, depending which one is on sale at the time. K&N oil filter. I've got 320,000 kms and i dont burn any oil between changes. I love these trucks
