  1. I'm just not getting how we are supposed to read it on the upper braided part if the high and low mark is 3/4" below that!! I would have to guess that somebody stuffed the dipstick tube into the motor until it stopped instead of where it's supposed to be. So I just pull, wipe, insert up to the plastic base and roll with that. 3.5 liters is still a weird number for a 3.0 V6 but maybe that's just me... I expect a V6 to have closer to 4.4 litres of oil with a new filter. The Subaru took that much and it's a 4 cyl... of couse the Subaru also blew an oil seal and left me stranded.

It's a very small, but deep oil pan.

  2. Wow, I touched a nerve. Most people who don't like Subarus REALLY don't like Subarus. I don't know why, but it seems to be the case. IDK if it's the hatred for WRX owners, idiot kids in general, or the fact that Subaru owners are soooooo fanatical. I honestly don't really even care. I bought my first one because I wanted to go off-road and couldn't afford a jeep. Now, I'm trying to get mine in good enough condition to sell so I can buy a Pathy (because I still can't afford a Jeep). Oh, and that was swapped into a Forester, not a leggy. Now to the important question; would the V8 fit in a Pathy? Will it bolt up to the tranny? Is this a do-able swap? Anyone want to gimme enough money to prove it is do-able?

And FWIW, my butt doesn't hurt. A bit of good natured teasing about cars.. on a car forum.. is okay with me.

Forester's got that same silly "Outback" cladding like the Legacy Outbacks did? Gross. Are you needing to cut the core support to fit the radiator? Is there a build thread I can check out, I'm really interested!

And I doubt a V8 is going to fit in the engine bay of a Pathfinder without MAJOR work. The V6 is already shoehorned in the bay!

  3. Yeah it is about 6.2 litres, last time I did the oil change I put 7 in it. Doesn't smoke although it's up to the full mark. I wish it would just take 5 litres instead of 7 because they sell the oil here in either 5 litres, 10 or 20 litre containers. It would be so much cheaper to buy 5 litres than having to buy 10 litres and have a bit left over. In one way it's ok in case I need an emergency top up, if it ever happens.

I image the turbos need a little bit more oil, because the turbo is oil fed. Is there some sort of oil cooler as well?

If you buy the 10 liter jugs, every 7th change you have a "free" one. I buy the five quarts jugs here, and every fourth change I already have the oil and just need the filter.

  4. Only 3.5 litres coming out? What engine do you have because I have the turbo diesel 2.7 and mine takes 7 litres to fill up. You probably need more oil.

Holy moly that's a lot of oil for such a little engine! a 4x4 VG30 equipped pathfinder only takes 3 5/8 quarts WITH filter change. I usually just dump the entire four quarts in it though.

  5. Ok let's see what happens if we can get a look at Nissan pathfinder engine swaps, that should make it a little more fun again. I know we have some good swap stories. :)

I once put a 3.3L in place of my factory 3.0. No replacement for displacement ;)

  6. Pretty sure this thread isn't about Stupidurus...

Here you seem to express some sort of dislike for Subaru's, I can't quite pin point it, but it might be where you attempted to conjoin the words 'stupid' and 'subaru'. From that it could be under safe assumption that you've had a bad experience with them and might be butt hurt over the mention of them.

Leave the butt hurt at the door and play nice. ;)

  7. should be more gold than orange, but yes. the factory tint is in the middle of the glass instead of on either side you touch. You could put in the extra effort and find an XE in the junkyard and take all the glass from it.

  8. I just thought that if there was no oil on the dip stick at all, that would mean that it would be a couple quarts of oil gone, not about only 3'4ths a quart..

The H to L points on the dip stick is 1 quart.

What I don't get is how it is that mine doesn't even read on the level indicator but about an inch above the top of it??? I still have only 3.5 liters of oil in it and recover 3.4 litres at every oil change.

Sounds like you're checking your oil wrong. You want to do it on a cold engine, or one that has been turned off for 10-15 minutes. Pull dipstick out, wipe clean, put dip stick back in and make sure it seats all the way down, pull it out and check the level.

Pretty sure this thread is about engine swaps where you take the OEM motor and replace with another that adds two cylinders. At least "stupidurus" can do such a swap. I'd love to see a V8 in a Pathfinder that didn't require ANY fabrication.

If you want things to stay on topic B, you should first make sure we ever left the topic.

OH WAIT THIS THREAD IS IN OFF-TOPIC, lulz.

  10.

Only Subaru guys can look at the long block of a boxer engine and go oh yeah, that a "insert EJ5435Hxr engine title here". :lmao:

Because for about 20 years there was only one that was used in everything. The EJ (4 cylinder) series which came anywhere between 1.5 and 2.5L. And the other "specialty" six cylinder engines are the EG and the EZ series and these generally only came in one specific model, SVX and "H6" badged Legacy's respectively. The EZ, shown above, is a direct bolt in to anything that has an EJ from the factory as it was designed to fit in the same engine bay as an EJ.
