  1. Okay...I got a D30 for free I figured if i did the gears right like 5.37 in the rear and 5.38 in the front it would work out well. If not to serious of a crawler and if i got my hands on a D44 i could do the swap from the D30 To the D44 prety easy...just my thinking....Thanks for the advice ill keep it in mind

think of it this way.. you got a free D30.. does it have CV's or u joints?

the person you got it from probably upgraded to a D44.

even jeeps don't keep the D30's.

I would sell it to a jeep guy and save the money for a D44

sombody else asked about a Chevy front end for a nissan..Answer is NO. the pumpkin is on the wrong side.

  2. FWIW,

I put my ECU in the glove box. had to extend 1 ground wire. the other coils up or loops back up in the passengers kick panel.

as far as behind the glove box, I have seen it done.. Mr. Packie88 did it. (RIP) i asked him about it getting hot and he said it didn't.

  3. :goodpost:

basicly protecting people from themselves. I'd rather tow with a stick than an auto personally (not just my stick/auto preferences too, just the whole 'more control' thing)

a few years ago when i was at the nissan dealer, i asked this very same question.

the reason is.. "nissan" cannot gurantee that some idiot knows how to drive a clutch.

that being said, he said its fine, they just can't guarantee it therefore, the lower tow rating.

  4. I got the Rancho 9000's for the cool sticker.

Are you talking about Rancho's in-cab adjustable system? It uses a small air compressor and hoses to each shock. You can adjust fronts and rears together but not each individually. The air hose mounts where the adjusting knob would be and the air pressure pushes on the ball valve(?) to change the shock settings instead of the knob and spring.

Plus the guages will fit (with a little massaging) right where the ashtray goes.

here is what i found on the in cab control for the 9000's

    -- STOP! --

DO NOT PUT THIS PRODUCT IN YOUR SHOPPING CART!

    IT HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED.

  5. inline 6 cylinders are heavy.

they also do not have the best capability of running at high rpms. todays cars run at higher rpms wich are generally cleaner burning.

i.e. jeep got rid of the 4.0 cause it would not pass the current and future smog regulations..

so now its the 3.7 V6

  6. where do you find this information on how the new shocks are constructed?

I can't find anything that says they are a cell type..

i don't care, cause like i said.. If your not desert racing.. they will be fine.

just want to know where you get your information?

  7. I will eventually be buying the compressor based controller for mine. Only $150 and no remote to loose.

what do you mean by compressor based? the my ride system uses a compressor too.

curious.... as i have a compressor on board.

  8. Actually the Rancho 9000 XL shocks are monotube style shocks. They are very advanced but for the price I thought the Gas-A-Justs were a better deal. I would definitely try the 9000 XLs out if I can get that wireless controller for them. I'm just too lazy to go adjust them all the time.

    these are what i'm buying..

    RS99036..

  9. I think not, Plenty of 300zx guys have bumped the limter to 7 & 7500RPM on the stock motor with no ill effects to the lifters or valves.

Higher springs are recomended above 7000RPM (to prevent valve float) and solid lifters are recomended (to prevent lifter collapse) but the rest of the internals can handle up to 9000rpm

oh i know.. i said.. START.. i've had my rig to 7k and she's screaming...

also, a good portion of the 300zx guys have different heads, wich means valves.. etc.. remember. DUEL over head cam. (yes, i know that you could find alot of different configurations.

  10. What would you recommend? I am in the market for new shocks as well. I know bilsteins are a good shock but stiff.

I have been doing alot of research and asking alot of people (i have LOTS of friends in the vehicle / fab business)

the general concensus is Rancho 9000xl's.

You can tune them to your ride by the turn of a knob.

they are the same price as bilstien 5100's

I for one am going to run teh Rancho 9000's

  11. Before anyone starts complaining, YES I used the search before posting. I am looking for a new set of shocks.

I found these Bilsteins (clicky) on 4x4 parts with the help of a member here but I have a few questions about them:

    1. Are the images posted correspond to the actual product?

    2. If 1 is true then why is there a boot on them? Boots aren't very good for SUV application because crap can get trapped inside them.

    3. Is that a good price for them? Looks like it is to me.

    4. Do they actually fit? I know it says they do but would like to verify that.

    5. What is the difference between the Sports and the Non-sports shock? I would like a smoother ride, not hard as a rock.

Before anyone posts anything, NO RANCHO SUGGESTIONS PLEASE!!! Rancho shocks are "Twin-tube" and I am only willing to get "Mono-tube" shocks because of their superior construction and longevity.

better do some searching before you say i want bilstiens and no rancho suggestions.. because if you want a smooth ride.. don't go for the bilstiens.

i just went through this discussion with some fab buddies of mine.

"Pogo stick" was the word used for the bilstiens.

  12. Guess thats me, old chevy guy. Anyway it has 2 cams that are over the heads lol. No pushrods.

    DOHC should mean

Duel over THE head cams. as in 2 over each head, not total of 2.

I have had to explain this to almost every domestic person i have discussed this with.. even got into a heated argument once.
