  1. well this morning she did the start in second thing! but it overall is much better. we shall see. after some searching the external cooler looks like it is pretty straight forward. While I got my tranny fluid flushed yesterday I got a good chance to jump in the pit and sus out the whole situation down there. looks like you just replace the existing hoses with longer ones and run it to a cooler zip tied to the front of existing radiator. I imagine I should seal the old ports in the stock cooler. I didn't see any good ideas for that though.
  2. well I just got the trans flushed an refilled the transfer case myself (that sucked). the tranny was fairly dark, smelled a little funky but not really burnt, but the transfer case was absolutely disgusting. shameful really. alas, She's shifting like a dream! I'm interested to feel the cold start tomorrow. also I'm headed to the junkyard to see if I can get a deal on these explorer coolers. if not, Im gonna order a haynes cooler. anyone know the part number?
  3. I don't have one. and I'm not sure if I have the resources to do so right now. the issue with the strange shift from 1st to 2nd has been happening for about a year and a half now. I would say it hasn't happened more than 8 times in that amount of time. i that means anything. If the issue was a cooler clog and heat. Its seems like the damage is done. no?
  4. so as of lately I've had of couple of strange things happening with my pathy. 1. occasionally she seems to have trouble shifting from first to second. this only happens from a dead stop shifting from 1st to 2nd. almost as if it is in power mode and it just shifts at a higher RPM. 2. occasionally when I back up and put her in drive, and apply some gas, It feels like it is in second instead of first. this only happens the first time I drive it of the day. It is cured by turning the truck off and restarting. 3.Lately, when she is shifted into drive it takes a teeny bit longer than normal for it to engage. I been driving this truck for 10 years. it is an extension of my body, I can detect very small changes, but it's there. she's got 207,000 miles. I'm thinking about changing the trans and transfer case fluids and seeing what happens. the trans fluid has about 30,000 on it, but the transfer case is way over due. tell me its not as bad as me thinks wilson
  5. thats it? I thought there was more to it for some reason. thanks for the info man, I appreciate it.
  6. sorry for the double post but I have been searchin for a couple days now. can anyone point me in the direction of the rear seat mod that allows you to take out the rear seats to allow for more room for gear/sleeping? thanks alot wilson
  7. I've had my for 10 years now. 206,700 miles.beat the hell out of it for 150,000 miles. then discovered this website and the joy of wrenchin on it. has damn near stock everything. have only replaced the parts that are expected to wear out tires, alt, starter, shocks. I always said I would get 200,000 then get rid of it. but can you just stop @ 200,000? I DON'T THINK SO!!!! It is a daily driver, I may drive it for the rest of my life. I love this truck.
  8. I got a set of Pro-comp 324509s. I understand that rancho and these are made by the same company. these are a little shorter than the rancho 5112s.I was afraid of my springs poppin' out with to much down-travel. I don't do a lot of serious offroadin' so I felt the 5112 may be overkill. alas now I'm lookin to the front......
  9. worked like a charm, and I got another inch to boot!
  10. So I put a set of JGC springs in the back and I'll be damned if I didn't get 3 inches of lift. mind you thats three inches above the ass dragging height it stood at before. As soon as I droped it off the stands I jumped on the rear bumper to give er a test. well it is incredibly stiff. not sure if I dig that. but the really interesting thing is That as the rear comes back up it stops abruptly with a thud. I assume that this is the shock reaching its max extension. The trucks rear actually sits at the full extension of the shocks while at rest. So I figured I would take it for a spin to see how it works. Well a sweeping bumpy highway ramp@ 65mph was interesting. but the real capper was a speed bump @ 2mph. after compression there was a really loud BAM! and then a couple more as the truck bounced afterward. these I assume are from the shocks reaching full extension.BAM!BAM!BAM! Well I'm no rocket surgeon, but this can't be good. these babies are gonna tears themselves apart! so do I need longer travel shocks? what's a good one? or could it be something else? It definitely feels as though it happens on the expansion side of the stroke. thanks wilson
  11. wow! its not often you find a company hooking up the consumers. I guess there is hope.
  12. I just purchased a Craftsman 1/2'' drive 10 piece socket set. upon further inspection I noticed there is no 16mm. After looking at the packaging I find that this indeed correct. I'm a noob , but what's the deal with that?

  14. anyone know the location of the residual pressure valve for the back brakes?
  15. yep, definitely have at least one broken stud. what's a ball park figure for this job?
  16. so I found a pathifinder at the local junkyard with what appears to be pacemaker headers on it. the are disconected and loose in the engine compartment. to get them out I would have to saw apart the crossover pipe. how realistic is it to take these puppies out and have the local muffler shop install them in my ride? Am I asking for trouble? my gut says probably.
  17. hello there. Ive got a 93. I just started fixing some small things and really got interested in wrenching on it. I'm interested in getting her running as efficiently as possible. you guys have already been a lot of help! thanks! thanks for your help wilson
  18. unfortunately, when there is welding involved I"m out. at least I believe there is welding involved
  19. thanks for all the replies! havent had a chance to look under my carpet yet, but the vehicle has been in the desert its whole life. I'm doubting that its rusted through, but well shall see. I was wondering if this type of modification(headers) would effect my emissions? can I incorporate them into the existing exhaust system or would I have to replace more? Is the "plugged" catalytic convertor suggested in one of the earlier postsy really possible cause of the heat? Also, does anyone know a good mechanic in las vegas that's down with the cause?
  20. hello all , this is my first post on the forum and I'm really excited to have found the resource. I have a couple of questions. seeing as I have the factory default manifold leak, i was wonderingif anyone used the pacesetter header and are they of good quality or should I go with something better? suggestions? also the floor boards on the drivers side get incredibly hot while driving. is this due to the manifold leak or am I missing a heat shield somewhere? thanks for your time wilson
