  1. Put the insurance back on it and gave the interior a good clean. Shocked the 27 year old leather seats still aren't cracked on this thing.

Ordered some kilmat for my Xterra and might use the rest on the wd21 if I have enough. Getting old enough that road noise really bother's me lol.

  2. The fastest way to get it back on the road is just another VG30 to drop in it. But of course we all want more power. What I would do is the VG33 or the VG34 if you don't mind a little more work (The thread @Slartibartfast linked has the details. Not really anything on this but you can also swap the supercharged VG33 from an Xterra or Frontier into the wd21 as well. May need to modify the hood or do a body lift for that, though.

I've never taken one of these clamshells off where the plastic wasn't either gone or well on its way, though to be fair that's a sample size of four.

And, yeah, those plastic trim screws are the worst. After buggering a few of them I realized you've gotta use a flat-blade screwdriver with as little down force as possible. If it's slipping, hook a fingernail under the head as soon as it lifts. An early HB I scavenged had regular metal screws into plastic inserts, like how the front corner lamps mount, not sure why they moved away from that.

Good luck with the bearings. If you still want to borrow that socket, I think the pass opened this week.

I don't think they were metal screws from the factory, someone else probably got fed up and put them in there lol.

Ha, I'm the same way.  In fact, I just put in an order for disc brake parts today and was bouncing back and forth one some options.  Since both my R50 and D22 now have WD21 rear discs, I also always have to compare what's available for two trucks...needless to say, there aren't as many ceramic pad options for a 95 WD21 as there are for an 04 R50.

RA and NPD are my go-tos as well for parts lookups, except I've noticed the RA listings are getting a bit sloppy.  Not their fault, though, because that data comes from the manufacturers.  It's just that when you own an 04 R50, it's flooded with parts for an 04 Pathfinder Armada as well as a bunch of D40 Frontier, N40 Xterra, and R51 Pathfinders parts for some dumb reason (bunch of Dana and M226 axle parts).  It's even trickled to the local stores when they as for my truck's info...Me: "2004 Pathfinder", them: "V6 or V8?", me: "There wasn't a V8 Pathfinder."  Stupid Armada BS.

I'm coming around to using more sacrificial sockets for stuff like this.  It's hard to cut small squares with the plasma table.  The black impact sockets and adapters from Harbor Freight has been pretty useful for that sort of stuff.

I've got EBC greenstuff pads on all 4 corners of my 95. If you're looking for a decent pad.

  5. Unplug the computer for it, that's all you have to do electronically, the light will go out and never come back. Then as Slart said, just delete the unit on the frame rail, since these are rear wheel ABS only it's fairly simple. You could probably just leave the abs pump there if you wanted, it doesn't affect anything when it's disconnected. Unlike modern cars lol.

  6. I've done it once, a long time ago on someone else's drum brake 95. It was a pain in the ass taking it all apart for a couple of seals. If you don't have a press do yourself a favor and take the assembly to a shop once you have it apart, get them to press it apart/back together after.

  7. The marks start at 0. So if you have 7 marks it goes 0 5 10 15 20 25 30 left to right.

The pulleys came from the factory with a white paint on 4 marks. The marks referenced here:

The one with the -5 at the start is for the 4 cylinder models.

    Where's your sense of adventure!

Lol, the hell with that. I've never smelled fumes so strong in my life.

Also the original 26 year old starter finally gave up the ghost on the weekend. Got that swapped out fairly quickly, way easier on a manual!

  9. Changed the oil. Castrol 5w30 and a random fram filter I found in the garage.

Found my exhaust leak, the drivers side pipe to the y pipe, gasket/flange is blown out at the bottom. I have doug thorley headers in the closet for 3 years. So I will weld the flanges shut on these old pipes so I don't die of asphyxiation in the mean time.
