  1. I went through the exact same thing a little while ago. Everything looked fine but it had a lot of backlash, so I had that setup at a shop but it did not change it at all. I read somewhere else that if you have an auto tranny, it will always be locked, dont know what you have though.
  2. I have taken my pathy on two long road trips since I have had it. The first was from Tacoma, WA to Death Valley, CA, total of 2,000+ miles. On the way down we drove for 23 hours stopping only for gas and it had no problems. The second was from Tacoma to Moab. We drove for 14 hours again stopping only for gas, wheeled Moab for the week and then drove back. I also take it on 3-400 mile road trips all the time and have never had a problem. With 213,000 I would jump in and drive it to Florida right now.
  3. The ProComp ES3000 and Rancho RS5000 are the same shock according to 4wheelparts. The ProComp ES9000 are, i believe it is called, gas-charged which means that there is always pressure in the shock pushing down. This will give you a much stiffer ride since the pathy does not weigh a whole lot. I went with the ES3000 and they work decently.
  4. Yah i am pretty sure that the top speed for 4lo is 25, maybe even 20. But honsetly if you have so little traction that you are using 4lo you should be driving nowhere near those speeds. With 4hi however i don't remeber ever reading about a max speed. I am pretty sure that I have gone over 55 though.

  9. If you like the spoked look, then Procomp 51 series are the way to go. 4WheelParts guarentee the best price so do some searching and they will match it. If you have one nearby, no shipping. If you like the round holes, i.e. Procomp series 97 or Soft 8's, check out summitracing.com and their Cragar Soft 8's. $37 a wheel and only $10.95 for shipping. Problem is that they don't have stock backspacing but I went with 4.25 and 32x11.50 and they don't rub. I still don't know how to post pics so check out the websites.
  10. Yah I did my body lift and it took a while. The problem with taking them a kit that is did not buy from them that I have found is that they charge by the hour and if the end up not having a part because you did not provide it, then they have to stop, get the parts, and then start again. So your pathy may end up in the shop for a while, if you end up having to wait for parts.
  11. I can't go this summer but I went to the Easter Safari this year. My advice is to go with someone who knows the area or get a guide book because you can get lost pretty easy. I would recommend a locker if don't have one but were thinking of buying one. The trail ratings are based on stock jeeps with a short wheelbase and many have rear lockers stock, so even the easy trails have some hard spots with an open diff.   12. Good to hear that you got out. Buy a HI-LIFT if you are going to wheel alone. It has gotten me out of a few predicaments before, best $50 I have ever spent.
  13. Well pictures would help if you could get some later but you might be able to just have someone pull you. If you are at an angle you probably would want to get pulled from the front since pulling you backwards might just drag it in the ditch some more. If not then find a hi-lift or a jack that is tall enough for you to jack your front tire that is in the ditch up to get the back tire down, if the ground is flat enough. If you can get the back tire to touch stack rocks under the front tire and just try to back out. In my experience you need to get the back tire down.

  15. The biggest tire you can run is 31x10.50R15. With stock gears and 31's you'll be fine. Don't know about changing the speedo cable, just divide 31(new tire size) by 28.9(stock tire size) and then multiply by speedo MPH. This shows you how fast you are really going. ex: 31/28.9*60=63.36 MPH. Also do this with your odometer to check your gas milage. BFG A/T's are great. The 3 digit number is a metric tire size. Go to a tire site such as discounttire.com and look at the tire calculators. The plate for stock gearing is on the passenger side fire wall and is gold.

  19. Thought of some of those ones that I could not remeber earlier. 1. ARB air locker. Planning on buying one. I remeber 88 saying in a post that they, require professional installation, why? What makes tham different than lockrights or detroits? 2. Twin stick shifters, what is the deal? Pros, cons? Saw alot of yotas in Moab with twin stick transfer cases. Thanks, 93

  23. With all this talk of sas I was wondering what... 1) The difference between radius arms and control arms is? 2) a "Pumpkin" is? "Driver's side drop"? 3) To figure out what your gear ratio is in 4-lo do you just multiply your ring and pinion with the t-case gears ex: stock-4.375 X 2.0(t-case)= 8.75:1 and crawler gears- 3.7 X 5.13=18.98, is that how it works? I know that I have more that I just cant think of right now. Anyone doing an sas that would like to do a write-up it would be appreciated. I am going to keep the pathy as a trail rig when I can afford a new car (a year or two away, probably). I know that the average joe can't do it, and I am not a mechanic, but I would just like to know what it really takes, since I will do it eventually. Thanks, 93
  24. Yah i found the same one as NC95Pathfinder but i got mine on ebay for 125 shipped. It came from an ebay store so they are still there.
  25. We changed the timing belt and it wasn't too bad. When I start up my car and it ticks really fast for about 3 seconds, it is because the oil is a little low and just needs to be topped off.
