This is funny, if you look above I just posted about how I had the same prob and it was my starter.....got a new one and it works fine right? This morning I went out to crank her up and I'm having the same issue!!!! I'm going nutz with this thing so im on my way out the door to check the blue relay.

I think the avalanche is a new version of the El Camino....we have them at work and i bottomed out going off a curb very slowly, and tore the front valance thing off under the front bumper....junk. I just thought the Fj was different....the plastic does suck though..
-
Its called spoiled...lol
-
I had the exact same problem, started out having to crank it 2-3 times then got worse....6-12 times, never tried to crank but everything turned on. Replaced the starter and it runs fine now.

hmmmm uh oh...

sweet....lol

Good Luck, thanks to the awesome help on this site I've saved tons. I hate going to the STEALER.

thats ok, maybe i can put clear laminate over it i have some at work..should save the sticker....I have to get some cool stickers because everyone in my area drives ford/chevy/jeep and i'm sick of their stickers sly

Under the rear seats there is a small hole, but the frame in the driver side rear wheel well is rotting slowly but surely.....and my original exhaust is almost reduced to dust but still kickin...lol

The xterra is cool, dont get me wrong but if you do some searching on the net, the FJ blew the xterra away off road during a test ....and all suv's are catered towards soccer moms.....thats why you have to modify them....the FJ is more practical off road....has the switch that enables you to start without the clutch for uphill stalls, full skids underneath, 6 spd man. trans, rear locker, water resistant seats, no carpet, inclimeter, high ground clearance etc....just needs better tires and some aftermarket upgrades.....the videos on the net show how good it does with just stock...it is ugly but would be a fun ride with the right work done on it. BUT I STILL LOVE MY PATHY

Might be a silly question, but did you try wiggling the wire connector on top of the air filter box( where the large hose connects)? i have a 94 that did the same thing....that worked for me. I also took the MAF off (the piece that the wire connects to) with a screwdriver and cleaned the tiny wire fillements with alcohol and Q-tips very gently....try the search feature if you dont understand, or pm me....that happens alot with our pathys evidently.
-
As for the RPM's, the other guys nailed it....MAF.....go ahead and wiggle the connection and wires, or press the plug down tight...(on the air filter box) that is probably the cause of the stalling, had this happen too.

Yes it is IFS, I believe he meant that they already have a conversion for it.

I bought one, just to see....i will let you all know how it is.....

sweet pics....i might have to get one, but want to wait until all the bugs of a brand new vehicle are "worked out"

I saw one the other day at a dealer lot and that bad boy is ready to dig, climb, swim, and crawl....it's really cool in my opinion. It comes with lockers, no carpet....just rubber floors....9 inch stock susp travel.......wait till the aftermarket parts come out!!! http://www.fjcruiser.ca/

I had this happen last month, took it to an alternator shop and found out that a diode was bad in the alternator....had a high pitched whine like a remote controled car.......check it out in the dark....your guages and headlights probably get brighter when you hit the gas pedal....
-
I had the same prob a few weeks ago and when i wiggled the wires at the MAF it worked for me too, thought it was just mine....hmmmmm
-
mine was the same way, put a strong screwdriver between the bottom of the calliper and the rotor, pry away.....its just stiff and it will ( the bottom) slide up...once you break it loose it will be fine.

With a screwdriver, a beer and a hammer. -alcohol-

Make sure you "push downon the stick then shift" to get in 4 L

I was trying to figure out how to do a cheap lift.....I came to the right place because there is nothing but good help here and I threw the uca/jgc lift on in 1 day....
-
I am guessing that you checked your ball joints? If not, lift your front end off the ground....grab the top of your tire(s) and try to wiggle them from top to bottom...if either tire wiggles top to bottom it isyour ball joints....I had a lunking noise at slow speeds going over small bumps and it all went away when I replaced the ball joints. Just figured I would put that out there incase you hadnt checked.....when i say wiggle, i mean pull then push on the top ofthe tire...if the bottom goes in when you pull or the top comes out when u push the bottom, there's your prob.also check your upper control arm mount bolts, if they come loose as mine did, it will clank over bumps and when u hit the brakes. Good luck!
