Is there any value in having the oil changed at a dealership?
mickyficky replied to jwblue's topic in General Forums
Here's my 2 cents. I change my oil. There are 4 choice for doing this, although we seem to be really discussing 3. Choice #1 - Do it yourself. It's easier than you think if you've never done it. It's rewarding. It's cheaper. MOST importantly, you know it was done correctly. Choice #2 - The one that hasn't been discussed much here - you local independent mechanic....forget about the cost here, but this is good for those that do not want to do it themselves for whatever reason. Where would you take your car if the timing belt needed to be replaced (I take mine to a local shop in the neighborhood that is considered trustworthy)? Well, that guy will change your oil too. And it'll be cheaper than the dealer and a higher quality than the quicky lube.... Choice #3 - dealer = NOT an OPTION Choice #4 - generic quicky lube = NOT an option -
anyone know a way to fix seatbelts so they retract?

anyone know a way to fix seatbelts so they retract?
mickyficky replied to ahardb0dy's topic in The Garage
I took my 95 Pathy into a dealer in Long Beach, CA in about 2006/07 and they replaced one rear seatbelt. It wasn't retracting at all, no matter what I did. At first, a guy said they'd do it for free while I waited, then another guy came out and said "it would be $100", and I said "no it won't" and then the first guy came back and said "it's done, it's free".... -
Check out this RC car I came across...the trail finder! Looks to me like a WD21 Pathy....the nissan badge says "t-Finder". Would be cool to have, but it's pricey. My link they also have the body only for $30, if anyone has an RC car or whatever to fix it to..... My link

Thanks for posting all of this everyone. I'm about to do a full fluid revival on my 95 (currently has 197,000 miles, I got it with 72k). I've had it for about 6 years and I've always been meticulous about changing the oil and the A/T fluid (it's a replacement A/T). I've been fairly good about having the 2 diff's and the transfer case done. I have never changed the brake fluid (but have been wanting to for a while), I think I might just get it done..... I have never changed the power steering fluid. I feel like the power steering fluid is the biggest inconsistency on this thread. Some people are saying check it every two weeks, some years, and then there's some like me.....never.... @Towncivilian - to change the PS fluid, are you saying to just suck it out with the baster and then refill (and do you repeat for a few days in a row to get all the crap out)? Also, you do this every 3 - 5k miles? Thanks again!

yea, I was pretty shocked at the price too, but I assume that the SE has something to do with it. A lot of the items under the standard "comfort and convenience" are SE or LE items and the bigger wheels and tires are too. I wonder what the absolute base model Pathfinder xe was is 95, probably 25k or so. I remember looking at a new pathfinder in ~2004 and it was about 32k, but I guess the difference is that the WD21's are better! @Warehouserat - glad I could help....I always like to back a guy up who's GF is calling BS!

I found the winder sticker from my 1995 SE 4x4, thought I would share. I bought it in 2005 with 72,000....now it is my second vehicle, still running strong with 196,000. Best vehicle EVER!

New Pathfinder vs 1995 Pathfinder vs G35....
mickyficky replied to mickyficky's topic in General Forums
Hey, thanks everyone! I was kinda leaning the way you guys are too, keep the old Pathy (by the way, it runs like a champ) and get a car....whatever I get will probably be recycled after about 5 years, so it won't be a keeper like the Path I'll post some pics when it happens! -
So, I currently have a 1995 SE 4x4 with 200k. Runs strong, I love it, but is starting to have some minor issues. I am buying a new car and want to hear what you think, especially if you know or have the newer pathfinder. Here are my options 1) buy a 2008ish Pathfinder (4x4, v6) and maybe get a cheaper old fun car - alfa, gti, whatever, OR 2) buy a G35 or similar sports car and keep the 1995 pathfinder I need a car to drive to work in (45 m/day) and I use my pathy for everything it was intended for....I work out of it, use 4x4, use it to haul sporting goods - mt bikes, kayaks, etc - and to haul home depot type crap and the dog.... Are the 2008 - with the newly revisited body on frame - pathfinders pretty awesome or not? I drove the 2008 g35 with a 6MT and it was awesome! Thanks

Cool, I'll check those places out. Were you able to walk in and get them or did they have to order them for you? thanks

Has anyone bought liftgate and rear window support arms off of eBay or anywhere else? Just wondering if there is a better company or brand to go with. I need the suspension arms for both the glass and the door (i'm finally sick of the door hitting me on the head!!). The link below is from a company on eBay that has both and looks legit.... Thanks My link

NO DO-NUTS with the LSD!!!! Not on pavement anyway. No really, LSD is awesome on the Pathy

Thanks everyone. If the bolt is just missing from the shield, then I can just leave it out....right? The smoke is weird. Saw it first about 1 month ago. I thought it was a leak that was getting burned too, BUT the truck was sitting for 1-week and I started it today with the hood open (had to jump it) and the smoke was immediate. Not sure if would have time to heat up to burn the leaking oil.... I will try the valve covers and take a closer look.

I noticed that my exhaust manifold (i think...white part in the photos?? ) is smoking and missing a bolt. They don't tick that bad like I've heard others say. There is a pretty constant smoke coming out where that bolt is missing. Can someone offer some advise for repair? Also, how bad is it to drive it while it's smoking?? I know I've seen this before on the forum, but I couldn't find anything.... Thanks

Taking in to consideration the weight of the Accord plus the weight of the trailer (and the weight of the stuff that would fill the 'extra trailer space' you mention), I think you will be over the max towing capacity for the pathy, especially for that distance. If you must tow the Accord, I would pull it without the trailer and would not load it up with anything. My buddy did the same thing in his 4-runner and when he was done towing a car across country his tranny was blown...$2500...shipping would be less. Just my 2 cents, good luck with your move

Ummmm, when I read this "the other car is a 99 accord, weights about 1800 lbs unloaded with a full tank." I thought to myself...WHAT???? 1800 pounds...ummm maybe a 1968 MG midget wieghs that much....maybe. I had an 89 accord that was like 2500 lbs.... So I looked it up...I think your car wieghs at least 3,000 lbs. this is the link for the 2-door LX which would be the lightest 99 accord sold...... http://www.edmunds.com/used/1999/honda/accord/11985/specs.html

I have an external cooler that has never been used if anyone wants to buy it... I can post pics, brand, price and pics of the cooler installed in my truck for reference. I bought the cooler and before I put it on my auto tranny failed, so I got a new tranny and the shop installed a cooler. So, I have one lying around.... Also, I 4x4 with the auto, it works perfectly fine. I wouldn't think twice about it....

Thanks Precise, I haven't tried anything, just saw the drops on the ground and snapped the shot this morning with the BB. I'll try it all out...

My power steering reservoir has a leak at one of the hoses. It's probably just that the hose is worn out, but I was wondering if anyone has seen this before. It seems like the hose may be clogged. By the way, my steering is fine and the leak is relatively slow (bout 10 drops a day)... Has anyone changed one of these hoses? Is this the in or out hose? I think the system will need to be bled if the hose is changed, will the Haynes manual instructions be acceptable for this or is it harder than it looks? any tips or recommendations would be great. Thanks

Thanks everyone . All of this sounds right because I know my pads are in desperate need of replacement. I will check the brake fluid, change the pads, top off the fluid if necessary and then post the outcome of the indicator lights.

My ABS and Brake lights (1995 with 175K) have been coming on and off for about a week. It seems random. Does anyone know what this is a warning for? I don't have an owners manual, can someone check for me? Also, I have searched the forum and found that battery + brake = bad alternator. Thanks

Fueler, how hard is it to put these covers on yourself? Duckman, what is x2? thanks for the replies.

What size door speakers in a '91? I've searched!

A quality mid-priced, well-designed tent takes less than 15 minutes to completely erect. And doesn't smell like a musty bedroom..... This mod is SUPER convinient when it is raining or super cold....when a tent just won't due. Also, it can be nice when you are putting large cargo in the truck....like moving a dresser.... I should add that sleeping in a tent means you can keep your food in the vehicle (if 'car camping'). That's a consideration in bear country Bears will destroy your car in search of the food you left in it. I have seen it happen and it's not pretty. Your Pathy is the worst place to leave your food (other than next to you in your tent). If there are no food bins, hang it. I did the mod that I found here years ago......just change out your bolts with wing nuts.

I have a 95 SE with leather and I have 2 issues. 1) I have a stress tear in the middle of the leather. It's about 3 inches and it's behind my right shoulder. It's getting bigger and bigger. 2) The stitching on the seat bottom is starting to slightly pull apart. Not too big a deal... Any suggestions for repair or damage control?? Especially for #1. thanks
