Been working a lot of hours in and outta town but git this weekend off and cashed in on my time off. I made a trip to Pull-A-Part picked up some weather stripping, boost sensors,light bulbs,fog lights etc. I try to stock up on parts the best I can. Also got a chance to wash the old gal make a run to the local Ford dealership to check out the new Ranger. Productive weekend. Heading to Alabama and gonna take the Q. Ran the Gambler500 with @Slartibartfast this past weekend. The original plan was to take the Pines to Spines 2003 LE but I didnt have enough time to sort its electrical problems. So we took my 2001 instead. Really enjoyed meeting and hanging with @Slartibartfast. His rig is one of the cleanest WD's I've seen! The gambler crowd is a pretty wild bunch and there was plenty examples of creative and nutty cars that had all the right hackery to make for a fun weekend. Explored a large area east of the cascades which was mostly new to me and played around at Moses Lake briefly before heading out.

Yes, increased load on the electrical system puts more load on the engine. In the real world, there ain't no such thing as a free lunch. I converted to e-fans in my Pathfinder for several reasons, reduction in engine load was not one of them. One thing to note, the mechanical fan never achieved 100% lockup. The fan actually would slip more when the engine was under heavy load. You would have noticed a serious power loss and a lot of noise if the fan ever locked. Had that happen in my first car, my 1977 200SX when we were doing about 80 mph. Bearings failed in the fan clutch and it felt like we slammed into a foot deep puddle and a god awful howl came out of the engine bay. Drove it like that for about a year because at the time I could not afford to replace the operational water pump. I finally got tired of the noise and drag of that fan(my best friend lived a quarter mile away and could hear that thing if he was outside when I started the engine, and the local police told me they could hear it a half mile away when I was doing 40 mph) and converted to electric. All my cars since managed to lose the mechanical fan and go electric. I like the better temp control and extra room the electrics give me.

Looking to upgrade exhaust from stock on my 01 R50, and can't seem to find any cat-back systems available other than stock replacements. Any recommendations?

I was impressed by how well Rat Trap did in the sand. And yeah, that Festy was something! I think we could've gotten a few more people over there and carried it out if plan A hadn't worked.

I have no idea. I'm just doing one thing at a time for now. I need to get back under it and finish welding all the spots I couldn't reach before while it was in the shed, and finish the small things first

I've replaced the fluid, I was incorrect in my other post about mileage, there was easily 50k+ miles on that fluid you see on the dipstick above. I also just finished adding a tranny temp gauge, its tapped into the oil pan. Cruising on the freeway it sits right around 140F, stop and go traffic is edges up a bit to 150-160F. I put some load on it on the local mountain pass (sea level to about ~3000ft.) I loaded it up pretty good, it topped out around 175F by the time I reached the top. Don't worry, my wife leaned over to take this glare free picture. ^^^

Just by looking at your fuel trim readings, you either have low fuel pressure or an intake leak. Hard for me to tell with the video. You said it gets happier when you rev up, but a poor idle. Those are symptoms of an intake air leak. One other thing I have seen that causes issues like yours is having the O2 sensors plugged in wrong. All 4 are near each other and if you get the left and right mixed up, the ECU gets very angry because it can't figure out how to control the injectors. Try swapping the plugs and see if that helps.

After replacing all four o2 sensors, spark plugs and coils, advancing timing two degrees, new maf, cleaned throttle body, cleaned and adjusted tps, cleaned iacv, new pcv valve and hoses, replaced several cracked vacuum lines, replaced air intake elbow with custom elbow, new filters all around, tires at 39 psi I get about 19-20 freeway and 17 or so around town.

14.78 MPG 60% in town and 40% mountain highways. Manual transmission. I always feel it should do better than that and occasionally it does when I'm on the highway more. So I'm glad to see that in this forum thread, at least, my mileage is fairly typical.

Popped by the paint shop to check on the Troutfinder and it was done, so I brought her home and put her back together-Mostly! Complete color change. Color is Thunder. Toyota color from the 2018 Toyota 86. Pre-pictures are over in the Garage forum. Really like the outcome. It came out Sick! More of the blue comes out when in the shade as can be seen in some of the pics. They were supposed to leave the decals off of the back. I was gonna paint them flat black or just leave them off. Gonna have to prep them and spray them black now! Daylight was running out, so I still have to put the rear tire, jack and rod cannon back on. Although I'm debating the cannon or switching over to an awning. Next up: -Put the interior back together -Build custom slim line nerf bars from stock mounting hardware. -Cleaning and painting the under carriage black including visible exhaust piping, accenting some pieces in Red. -Detail the engine and engine compartment-Blackout with Red accents.

By the way, if you’re running larger tires, your speedometer reads slower than actual, which means your odometer reports lower than actual. Therefore, your true MPG is better than what you get by computing odometer trip distance divided by gallons filled since last fill up.

I've been averaging about 14-15. It's a 60/40 split of freeway and surface streets (respectively) and pretty level terrain. Seems like it should be a little better, even though the engine is at around 175k and it runs fantastic. I once was getting about 17-18, BUT.... that was under a stock setup. Also, my speedo was reading about 3mph fast, that impacts the odometer as well. So, I've upgraded the suspension to MD OME springs, and went up a size on the replacement tires. According to my GPS my speedometer is just about spot on, definitely no more off than 1/2mph. So maybe I've only been getting 14 or 15mpg all along. Still seems like a substantial difference though. I live in Cali but where I'm at it's not at all high altitude, so that shouldn't really have much negative impact on my fuel economy. I was just sharing my fuel mileage concerns/ideas with a friend very recently, so naturally, I'm very, very interested in what what others have to share on this regarding their own R50's. Great topic.

Quick overnighter outside of Darrington.

Made a recent trip to out east, exploring the area as we went along with no real plan in mind. The state turns to dry, arid desert really quickly. 2hrs from home and it was about 40 degrees hotter and dry. Great short trip with my family.

Passenger strut threaded end stripped when I hit a speed bump! No carnage, just a repair.
