Kn0xville
the snapring that holds the outter CV behind the hub.. is it suppose to be bent like this? And if not..is it ok to use a normal snapring that has the closed circle ends? thanks.
Precise1
Nope, they aren't meant to be bent like that... I can't see why you couldn't use a slightly different end snapring, as long as there are no clearance issues. Then again, is this one a standard size or is it specially tempered or something ?? I doubt it, but who knows... B
vengeful
Definitely not normal. As long as the diameter (inner and outer) and thickness are the same, you can use any snap-ring you please.

dagwoodzz
Snap ring link I'm confused where exactly this snap ring came from. It looks similar to the snapring that keeps the wheel bearings from popping out. If that is the case the wheel hub and bearing lock nut should go on before the snap ring. Take a look at the link, You may be refering to a different snap ring. My apologies if I'm wasting your time.
sw
that snap ring has nothing to do with the bearings, thats what the bearing preload nuts are for. that snap ring just keeps the driveshaft all the way out. if you dont put on in the right spot the locking hubs can lose drive for the drive shaft whilst in 4wd. unccpathfinder
thats what my snap ring looked like the 1st time i did it without snapring plyers using a screwdriver and needle nose plyers...i think it'll be ok as long as it seats in the groove all the way around and isnt loose...mine did so its still on the truck... 87pathy
ya, you just bent it taking it out the first time. bend it back with 2 pairs of vise grips and install it. Make sure that it comes tight around the inner most ID and it will be fine
